Continuity mistake: Right in the beginning, Tony is welding the Iron Man suit and is wearing the protective welding mask. In a close up, the mask is illuminated orange from the sparks and heat being close to the welder. It cuts to a different angle before he turns the welder off, and suddenly the mask is illuminated blue from the lights above it. (00:00:15)

Continuity mistake: Right in the beginning, Tony is showing off his Iron Man armor to Rhodey and looks up after doing some welding. In the first shot, the welding mask is barely casting any shadows on his face, mostly towards his forehead. But then it cuts to a different angle and now the shadow comes all the way down past his eyes and on the bridge of his nose. (00:00:30)

Continuity mistake: Tony walks by some people in the Stark Lounge, and from a high angle their shadows are seen. The shadows are very close to the people’s feet, showing the light source is almost totally overhead. A couple shots later, you see behind Tony as he is walking, the same people in almost the same spot, with their shadows extended out further, as if the light source has moved several feet in front of them, but while they are still inside the building. Continuity mistake: As Tony is walking over a wooded floor, there is a plant behind a yellow couch in the lounge, and the plant appears to be an orangish brown color. A few shots later as Tony is walking, you see the same plant behind him which is now green. (00:02:05)

Continuity mistake: When Tony first walks in on Howard, Howard is looking through some hologram blueprints. He is talking to someone on his earpiece that at this point appears to be solid white with no extra components as it glows slightly purple from the hologram lights. A couple shots later as Tony walks up behind him, Howard’s earpiece is now black with lights and indentations on it. (00:02:25)

Continuity mistake: When Obadiah walks in Howard’s office, complaining that Howard rejected his proposal to repurpose the Earth Movers for military application, he is holding a folder in his hand marked confidential. There is a white label on it, and the tab is towards the upper right corner near his head. A few shots later, the folder is completely turned around, the white label and confidential stamp facing the other direction, with the tab by his legs now. (00:02:50)

Continuity mistake: When Howard and Obadiah are arguing about the Earth Movers, In several shots Tony is closer or further away from Howard several times without moving. (00:03:10)

Continuity mistake: After the plane explosion, a scene six months later is shown with Tony lying in bed with his chest piece now in that keeps him alive. The first shot shows it with some wire or designs of some sort protruding around it along his chest. Some of the ends overlap with the border of the central round piece. It then cuts to a closer view of the device as Tony’s alarm sounds, and suddenly the pieces do not overlap the circle at all, and some of them slightly change shape and position. (00:06:35)

Continuity mistake: Tony and Rhodey are confronting a guard outside Stark International, and in the first shot of the guard, his chest is fully light up by the sunlight. A couple shots later, without him moving or changing positions, a side view of them shows the guard’s chest half covered in shadows. (00:07:00)

Continuity mistake: As Rhodey tells the guard "You know. As in Stark International, the company you work for!" As he begins saying this, he raises his arm up, which casts a shadow on his chest. While he speaks, it cuts to a side angle and suddenly the shadow from his raised arm is gone. (00:07:05)

Continuity mistake: When Tony and Rhodey are talking to the guard, trying to get into Stark International, there is a shot showing a woman walking away from them in a black skirt. A couple of shots later, the woman has disappeared and instead a couple is walking towards them holding hands. (00:07:20)

Continuity mistake: On his way to go see Obadiah Stane, Tony sees Trish and calls out to her. The guard escorting him places his hand on Tony’s shoulder. From the front view, the guard’s thumb is positioned downward. But when it cuts to an angle from behind, his thumb is now half way extended out to the side. (00:07:55)

Continuity mistake: In Obadiah Stane’s new office of Stark International, Tony goes to see him. Just after Tony begins speaking, Stane interrupts him and waves his arm around. The arm of his shadow is right next to the shadow of his chair and overlaps. But when it cuts to a frontal view of Stane, the shadow’s change around, and there is a lot of light between the shadow of his arm and the shadow of his chair. (00:08:15)

Continuity mistake: Trish interrupts Tony and Obadiah’s conversation to tell him that his next appointment is here. Obadiah Stane then stands up from his chair and begins to walk. The camera cuts to a different angle and suddenly Stane is all the way at the end of the table, having jumped a good 6 or 7 feet in an instant. (00:09:05)

Continuity mistake: After Tony talks with Obadiah Stane, he walks out of Stark International and Rhodey starts to ask "Hey how did it go?" While he says this, Tony gets furious and kicks his backpack across the street and Rhodey looks shocked. But just before the camera cuts, it is a close up of Rhodey’s face and he is just talking, then it cuts to a side view and pans by real fast as Tony has his outburst and Rhodey’s face is instantly showing the shocked expression. Continuity mistake: The scene following where Tony kicks his backpack in rage starts with a distance shot panning down in front of a building. You can see the small figures of Tony and Rhodey walking beside the building in the distance, with nobody else around them. It then cuts to a close up of them and suddenly there are two people walking behind them. (00:09:30)

Continuity mistake: As Rhodey and Tony are walking by a building, Rhodey tells Tony to not worry, as in two years he can fire Stane. The first view shows their shadows directly under them, like the sun is at its zenith. It then cuts to a shot from above their heads and now their shadows are elongated and cast on the wall beside them. (00:09:35)

Continuity mistake: As Rhodey and Tony are walking through school and Tony asking why his dad wants this of him, a girl in an orange shirt stumbles and pushes through them, continuing on as she apologizes. First is a view from in front of the boys just before it cuts, and Rhodey’s arms slightly flare out and his eyes close with mouth open as she passes between them, and Tony’s mouth is open. It then cuts to a view from the other angle and suddenly Rhodey is standing almost perfectly still, hands at his side, eyes open and mouth shut. Tony’s mouth is also shut. (00:09:50)

Continuity mistake: In Tony’s physics class, it first shows him flipping through the book. Just before the camera cuts, the page he is on at that moment shows three colored lines at the top of the page. It cuts to a top view and instantly the page he is on has the three colored lines at the bottom. (00:10:20)

Continuity mistake: After skimming through the physics book, he then closes it and you can see that the diagram of the atom is on the front and a light colored box is on the back. He closes it and the back is facing up towards him. But in the next shot, he picks it up and you can see the front of the book is facing him instead. (00:10:25)
