Continuity mistake: Most of Season 1 takes place in January of 2006, while Season 2 takes place in March of 1979. Molly mentions near the beginning of Season 1 that she's 31, and her father confirms this in episode 10 by mentioning that she was 4 years old during the events of the Sioux Falls massacre (season 2). In season 2, Molly's mother mentioned in episodes 1 and 4 that she's 6. It's also revealed in a flashback scene in episode 10 that she graduated high school in 1991 (most people are 17 or 18 when graduating high school). If you do the math, you'll see that there's an inconsistency in her age between Seasons 1 and 2. Apparently, 2 years were added to her age in Season 2.
Continuity mistake: The weather at the end changes. In the very wide shot snow can be seen falling on the distant hills. In the next shots there is no snow.
Other mistake: In the scene in 1987 which takes place where the movie did, the location of the case of money is different than it was in the film. In the film there were no power lines and it was on the opposite side of the road. The sun angle can be used as a reference. The film and this part of the episode were supposed to take place in the same spot.
Other mistake: When Lorne Malvo shoots out of the window the only thing sticking through the newspaper is the gun's barrel. When the shot changes to the scope view, you can see the outside. But you shouldn't be able to look outside.
Who Shaves the Barber? - S1-E7
Continuity mistake: When Molly visits Wes Wrench in the hospital we see the whiteboard on the wall has writing on it. Molly takes it off the wall and hands it to him without erasing it and it's suddenly blank.
Who Shaves the Barber? - S1-E7
Continuity mistake: When Gus arrives to visit Molly in the hospital, he brings her a bouquet of flowers. He sets the flowers on the roll-away table stationed over the end of the bed, and the blooms are facing towards the window. When the scene cuts to a different angle as he is walking toward Molly, the bouquet is now completely turned around and the stems are pointing at the window, even though Gus did not touch them again.
Who Shaves the Barber? - S1-E7
Factual error: The scene which supposedly takes place in Fargo was obviously not filmed there. Fargo does not have any skyscrapers that tall.
Continuity mistake: Lester's office assistant moves from behind him to almost in front of him during the scene where he hits the boys with a stapler. Notice Gina look over at her when she was just behind Lester.
Continuity mistake: When Greta sits down with the shotgun, it is pointing directly at Lou, horizontally angled. However, after a cut, the gun is suddenly pointing diagonally, at an angle. It is also strange that Lou, a former police officer, doesn't caution his novice granddaughter against pointing a loaded gun at him. (00:40:15)
Factual error: Peggy and Ed are hiding out in a cabin "just outside of Sioux Falls," but are somehow also close to Mt. Rushmore. Mt. Rushmore is near the western border of SD, Sioux Falls on the eastern border, more than 340 miles apart.
Continuity mistake: The antenna on the back of Ted Danson's police car is not present when he's talking to the other officer. When he gets back to the station it is back on the car. Also, the other officer's vehicle doesn't have an antenna. How would their radios work?
Continuity mistake: In the parking lot outside the medical clinic where Otto Gerhardt just had an appointment, a large wet spot on the ground continually appears, disappears, changes shape, and sometimes has tire tracks running through it, then does not.
Rhinoceros - S2-E6
Continuity mistake: When Simone is on the phone with Mike, she puts the hand holding the phone down in her lap (so the back of her hand is touching her leg) to yell at the person in the room. When the shot changes, her hand and phone are now up at her chest.
Did You Do This? No, You Did It! - S2-E7
Continuity mistake: During the sequence in the woods where Bear shoots Simone, the sun angle changes numerous times. It is afternoon throughout the first half and then the sun is setting while she is pleading for her life. When Bear gets back to his truck the sun is overhead again.
Factual error: Parts of this season take place in St. Cloud, Minnesota. The problem is, the St. Cloud they portray has significant skyscrapers. St. Cloud is a town of about 80,000 people with no large skyscrapers.
Continuity mistake: When the bodies of Nikki Swango and the state trooper are being taken away, the large amount of blood that pooled under both of them has gone.
Raddoppiarlo - S4-E3
Character mistake: Deafy says he's a priest in the Mormon church and a member of the Quorum of the Seventy. But he wouldn't be a priest, he'd be an elder or a high priest. There's such a vast difference in the Mormon church between priest and high priest that he wouldn't refer to himself as a priest, even to a non Mormon. Especially since a priest in the Mormon church isn't close to what a layperson thinks of when they hear that word. He also mispronounces the word "Lamamite", even though he's from Utah.
Factual error: The arm on the phonograph is on the wrong side. It should be on the side near the viewer.
Character mistake: Deputy Olmstead says to Lorraine Lyon, "You think that you're rich 'cause you're better than me." Surely, the line should have been "You think that you're better than me 'cause you're rich."
Suggested correction: No, she actually does mean Lorraine thinks she is rich because she is better than her. And to her, anyone who is not rich is therefore less, or else they would be rich too. It's the same type of thinking but with a different approach as what you suggest. It's about privilege.
Interesting. I can see it either way. Thanks for the thought.
