Revealing mistake: In one of the shots of the Ferrari driving away from the club and towards Uncle Han's residence, Mai Ling says "Some people have already been killed." This shot is a mirrored one; Magnum's head is on the passenger side and the license plate is backwards.(00:27:05)
Revealing mistake: When Magnum drives away from the King Kamehameha club, in the shot where he drives off turning right and into the main road, a stunt double pudgier than Selleck is used instead.(00:27:00)
Plot hole: Choi is a single guy with no help from anyone else no superpowers (just a rather deadly fist), always shown on foot and yet he is able to follow Magnum always. He has to ask for directions at the beginning of the episode (with the store being about 3 doors away) so he's not omniscient, but somehow he is able to show up wherever Magnum goes, including where he just drove his super fast Ferrari, or when he's getting free helicopter rides. No explanation is attempted or hinted.
Stupidity: The villain of the episode is supposed to be a fearsome martial artist who killed with his bare hands dozens of people (a dozen alone is made of Mai Ling's relatives). This killing machine has one small weak point; he 'blinks' before striking. But it's not even a 'blink'; he squints. Hard. For long. Not even the worst amateur boxer has such a gigantic weak point. He also gets distracted by a helicopter flying in the distance forgetting completely about his opponent and letting them grab a gun and calmly point it at him.
Other mistake: Mai Ling is left in the sun for 8 hours at least, according to Magnum. She is drugged and in danger of dying. Yet her skin has no sign of any stress. They take time to show, of course, but when they meet with Higgins at the end of the episode (which is implied not being long after, with Higgins fixing the vase) she does not have anything unusual either (like a goofy sunglasses tanline).
Continuity mistake: Magnum finds Mai Ling on the beach. He's wearing his Detroit Tigers hat as he kneels by her. Then it cuts to a close-up when he calls her name; no hat. Next shot and to shield Mai from the sun, he removes the hat he didn't have anymore.(00:38:55)
Continuity mistake: Kicked down, Magnum is pinned at the throat by Choi's hand in close-ups, but it does not match Choi's posture when he gets easily distracted.(00:46:00)
Continuity mistake: Mai Ling's cousin gets kicked in the face by someone with pants soiled with mud - but Choi in the following shot shows no mudstains.(00:45:50)
Trivia: During the climax in the cemetery, the iconic Six Million Dollar Man bionic sound is used in the soundtrack to highlight the suspense.(00:44:30)
Revealing mistake: The guy who jumps off TC's chopper to face the bad guy for the final confrontation looks more like Lou Albano than Tom Selleck.(00:44:00)
Continuity mistake: Rick is ticked off and tells TC he was not gonna stick around to play ring-around-the-rosie. Higgins at the edge of the frame moves his hand, but it's back in its original position in the next shot.(00:40:40)
Revealing mistake: Magnum and TC are headed back to Kauai. Like earlier in the episode, the helicopter is piloted by someone wearing camel pants and not the blue jeans TC is wearing, but in addition to that, the passenger seat is empty, Magnum is nowhere to be seen.(00:42:40 - 00:43:20)
Continuity mistake: In the scene inside Higgins' study where he examines the shattered vase, Rick's gold chain is over his tank top in the first shot, under it in the following, and it keeps going on and off depending on the camera angle.(00:40:30)
Continuity mistake: When Choi kills the captain backhanding him in the temple, the crayon doodle on his palm is on the left. Later in the episode (when he kills the cousinuncle, when he is on the pedicab with Rick), the tattoo is on his right.(00:05:00 - 00:15:00)
Visible crew/equipment: When the warrior from China uses his peerless mastery of arcane martial arts to pop the trunk, the camera crew and lights are reflected in the vase.(00:40:00)
Continuity mistake: In the sequence with Rick posing as pedicab driver and dealing the annoying tourists from earlier in the episode, extras are recycled several times (for instance the guy with a white graphic tee with red borders, he is in the initial crowd that crosses the street and he comes from the same direction in background when Rick tips his hat, appearing again multiple times) and don't transition from one shot to the next.(00:37:25)
Stupidity: Higgins tells Magnum that he needs to get out before he opens the safe. Magnum then gets all sassy and asks "Shall I open it?" and proceeds to activate the statuette that unveils it, then pauses. Higgins is outraged and then goes ahead and opens it dialing the combination. Higgins' behaviour here is absurd; he gave up and handed Magnum the victory in their petty squabble when Magnum proven nothing. Magnum is the security consultant of the house, it is unthinkable that he would not at least know where the safe is, but it's also rather obvious that he did not know the combination. You don't get a safe assuming that nobody will ever know where it is; keeping it out of sight and reach is a plus, but it's not really its point.(00:19:30)
Stupidity: You'd expect Magnum's friend Dan Cook to be quite smart and adept with military affairs and regulations, being an NCIS guy, but just look at the guys who tricks him; they both have terrible hair and sloppy care of the uniform, and the guy who greets him has a messy 'stache no Marine could wear.(00:09:30)
Stupidity: The gag with Magnum not noticing Higgins lurking at his home is fun, but for that to work he needs to completely overlook the fact that the lights are on, and walk perfectly backwards without jumping in surprise when he bumps the back of the leg against the dogs.(00:37:30)
