The Simpsons (1989)

Correction: The premise of this episode is that without books in the library, Marge tells the kids the history stories from her own recollection. Either Marge didn't know better or changed it, because a beheading makes a better story than just having complications.

The Simpsons (1989)

Correction: Yes. but Marge is telling the story and afterwards Lisa confronts her about the inaccuracies of her story.

Pleasantville (1998)

Corrected entry: When David and his friend are questioning each other on Pleasantville trivia, David is eating chips. There are continuity mistakes between the front and rear views of David - e.g. when they're asking about the name of the cat the rear view shows David eating but the front view shows him dipping a fry into ketchup. (00:06:20)

jle

Correction: I watched this frame by frame and David is eating french fries the whole time.

Mercury Rising (1998)

Corrected entry: A message encrypted with Mercury is shown in the email to the Einstein account. The message does not look like it has been produced with a proper encryption algorithm since there are long sequences of letters that are repeated (e.g. GSDX2BYAC52...). A property of all encryption, regardless of algorithm, is by definition that the output be random. (01:06:40)

jle

Correction: Encrypted content does not need to be random. ROT13, for example, is an encryption algorithm.

Almost Famous (2000)

Corrected entry: When William and Lester are talking in the coffee shop, William is taking notes and writes "Dont make friends w/rock stars. Righteously DUMB. Industry of COOL". Lester never mentioned anything about anyone being "righteously dumb". The internet suggests a couple of lines have been cut; "'Cause they are trying to buy respectability for a form that is gloriously And righteously dumb. Now, you're smart enough to know that. And the day it ceases to be dumb is the day that it ceases to be real, right?" (00:16:10)

jle

Correction: Despite the editors' choice to cut dialogue from the scene, William could legitimately have written a series of notes before the audience is let into the scene. The scene begins with Lester and William already well into their conversation in the diner - reinforced by the fact that Lester's plate of food is mostly gone.

Starship Troopers (1997)

Corrected entry: In the punishment scene, Zim puts the coiled piece of leather into Rico's mouth - the leather looks like a backwards '9'. The angle switches to the reverse view and the lather is reversed - it should have the cross section like a '9' but it is still backwards. (00:43:10)

jle

Correction: There was enough time in between the shots for him to adjust it in his mouth.

Mercury Rising (1998)

Corrected entry: When we see Emily cycling home we hear the sound effect of a bell but her bike doesn't have one. (01:23:30)

jle

Correction: As we see Emily enter the house, if you look at the bike handle by her right hand, the bells hammer is visible between the handle and brake lever. The bell was camoflagued against the brake handle assembly.

Fallen (1998)

Corrected entry: Hobbes types "February 11, 1966" into the search engine and is taken to the front page of the "Chronicle" newspaper. The date on the page is a bit hard to read, but it definitely says 'Wednesday'. In 1966, Feb 11 was a Friday. (00:22:40)

jle

Correction: The article wasn't printed on February 11, 1966, but it mentions that date. That's why the search engine got a hit for that site. It was probably an article printed Wednesday, February 16 about events that took place on the preceding Friday.

Phixius

Correction: No, he only has to multiply the numbers he says by ten. Twice is not a number.

The Ladykillers (1955)

Corrected entry: Just after the Major draws the short match, and is protesting that he can't kill Mrs.W. the door to the bedroom, that Mr. Lawson broke down earlier, is seen restored. (01:04:00)

jle

Correction: He didn't break it down completely, he just broke it open. It can still be opened and closed and many of the characters do it after he breaks it open. No mistake.

Corrected entry: When Joe first phones Pat McCune at the FBI he gives his date of birth as 10 Dec 1960. Later, at the police station, the report showing he has a Swiss bank account gives his DOB as 7 March 1962. (01:11:35)

jle

Correction: Because the account was not set up by Campbell Scott but by Steve Martin to incriminate Scott, Martin probably gave the bank a wrong DOB to make Scott look more guilty.

Pleasantville (1998)

Corrected entry: In the introduction to the Pleasantville marathon, viewers are tempted with a trip to the Pleasantville of their choice. The map shown does not accurately represent the Pleasantvilles of the USA. For example, there is one in Wisconsin that is not shown on the map and, more importantly, the map shows a Pleasantville in Oregon that does not exist in reality. (00:01:40)

jle

Correction: This is a fictional movie, the pleasantvilles may also be fictional.

South Park (1997)

Raisins - S7-E14

Corrected entry: When Kyle is lying in bed in some shots one half of his face is in shadow and in other shots the other side is. (00:04:10)

jle

Correction: First of all I'm assuming it's Stan you mean. Second of all South Park always makes jokes about the amature animation (eg. in Season 6 episode 'Free Hat').

M*A*S*H (1972)

5 O'Clock Charlie - S2-E2

Corrected entry: When Frank learns he is to take command of the MASH, he says "I just wish I'd taken ROTC in school" However, in Season 2 Episode 2 "Five O-Clock Charlie" he says that he learned gunnery in the ROTC. (00:05:10)

jle

Correction: As demonstrated throughout the series, Frank is the type of person who will exaggerate or outright lie about himself to impress others. When put in a situation where he must actually perform, he usually fails spectacularly. Pumping up his ROTC credentials is just one example.

Boogie Nights (1997)

Corrected entry: As Eddie is walking over to meet the Colonel at the pool party, Jack has his sunglasses in the left hand pocket of his shirt and the flap of the pocket is open. There is a closeup of Eddie and the Colonel shaking hands and, out of focus in the background, you can see the shirt pocket is closed. (00:41:00)

jle

Correction: Jack has two shirt pockets. One open, which holds the sunglasses - the left pocket - and a closed pocket on the right. The closeup shows the closed pocket, but the shot is too tight to tell whether it is the left or right.

Bad Boys (1995)

Corrected entry: At room temperature, ether is a gas. It is transported under pressure as a liquid in those tall skinny cylinders; not in metal barrels. (01:10:40)

jle

Correction: Then it would be a pretty warm room. The boiling point of ether is 34.6 deg c (94.3 deg f). At room temperature (~70 degrees f / 21 degrees c) ether is an admittedly volatile liquid. Source: http://physchem.ox.ac.uk/MSDS/DI/diethyl_ether.html.

Mercury Rising (1998)

Corrected entry: When trying to get into the Einstein email account, Jeffries suggests using the password "E equals MC squared, all caps". If the FBI only accepts uppercase characters then he doesn't need to qualify his suggestion. If the FBI is sensible and allows lowercase letters then Jeffries suggestion is incorrect; the 'm' and the 'c' in the equation stand for mass and the speed of light respectively and these conventionally are represented by lower case letters. (01:06:00)

jle

Correction: This is a character choice; it is reasonable that Jeffries is unfamiliar with how to correctly write an equation, and reasonable that the password is in all caps to make it harder to guess. He's just lucky.

Dinsdale - S2-E1

Corrected entry: In the 'New Cooker Sketch' Mrs. Pinnet says she lives at 46 Algernon Road. When we switch to the exterior shot, the number on the door is 94 and it it is opened on the other side.

jle

Correction: Mrs Pinnet is a pepper pot - she has the brains of a cheese sandwich. It's surprising she got any of her address right.

Correction: The scene is set in a television studio and he is speaking directly to camera. A boom shadow is not a film mistake under these circumstances.

M*A*S*H (1972)

Soldier of the Month - S4-E12

Corrected entry: When Radar gets his breakfast he is given a large dollop of mashed potatoes. When he sits down to eat, the potatoes are gone and there is something unidentifiable in their place. (00:02:30)

jle

Correction: The mashed potatoes remain on the tray throughout. We see Klinger pour gravy over them as Radar reaches the end of the serving line, which is why the colour is different when Radar takes his food to the table.
