Question: Why does Elizabeth take the medallion with her after her blood fails to lift the curse? She knows that it "calls to them", so it would only act as a homing beacon, but she doesn't know that they're after Will specifically, in fact, at that point, only Jack knows that. So why would she risk the pirates coming after them?

Friso94

Chosen answer: She does realise they are after Will, she called herself Turner and Barbossa reveals they need a Turner, meaning Will. She takes the medallion with her because it belongs to Will.

Na Triobloidi - S2-E13

Question: One thing I haven't ever been able to figure out is this: how does SAMCRO know exactly where Cameron is headed after he kidnapped Abel? They had no direct clues, and even after watching the series a second time, it still doesn't quite make sense to me.

Friso94

Chosen answer: They knew he owned the boat at the docks as that was how he brought the guns into the country. They assumed he would head there when he was needing to flee with Abel.

The_Iceman

Answer: They didn't know he was headed to Belfast until Maureen Ashby calls Gemma and tells her that Abel is in Belfast. Cameron is her cousin and he even brings Abel to her apartment.

Question: In season 3, they were setting up how it was probably going to be Mendoza running for the Republicans. Is there any particular reason they chose Conway instead of Mendoza? (Be it behind the scenes or not).

Gravity (2013)

Question: When Ryan is descending back into the atmosphere in the Shenzhou, two pieces pop off the landing module after the big tracking shot. One appears to be part of the heat shield, and the other looks like an O-ring from the window. 1) If it really was a part of the heat shield, wouldn't she along with the Shenzhou have burnt up in the atmosphere and 2) If that was a part of the window, shouldn't it pop out due to the pressure differential? Or, if I'm wrong about those two parts, what are they?

Friso94

Chosen answer: The heat shield separates before landing. If it didn't the solid fuel engines behind the shield that are designed to give a soft landing wouldn't work. It doesn't separate until the capsule has slowed sufficiently to mean it is no longer needed. I don't know what the other piece that separates is but it is nothing to do with the windows. It comes from under the capsule so was behind the heat shield.

Flyboys (2006)

Question: The Dr. 1's are repeatedly shown opening their attack by diving down on their enemy. I know that Dr. 1's (because of their tri-wing configuration) had excellent climbing abilities, but it was hopeless at diving. So my question is: was this a common tactic for German pilots (specifically in the Dr. 1) to do this?

Friso94

Answer: Easy answer. In WW1 and WW2 pilots would attack with the sun behind them as it made them very hard to spot. "Beware of the Hun in the sun" Once the missile age started it didn't matter.

The Avatar and the Firelord - S3-E6

Question: At the end of Sozin's story, he says that he wiped out the Airtemple, and we see one burning. But it isn't one of the four they visited during the three seasons. The Western Airtemple hangs from the cliff, the Northern and Southern both are on one solitary peak and it doesn't have the distinctive bridges of the Eastern Airtemple. Is it ever explained or shown which one it is in Sozin's story?

Friso94

Chosen answer: When Sozin says "So I wiped out the Air Temples," we are indeed seeing the three mountains of the Eastern Air Temple burning, with the two bridges being gone in this shot (S3-E6). This does conflict a bit with the image we see of the Eastern Air Temple, with the two bridges intact, when Aang and Appa fly to that Air Temple seeking Guru Pathik (S2-E19). This may possibly be considered a mistake, but the fact is that when we are seeing the burning of the Eastern Air Temple it's from the point of view of Zuko, who is merely reading from Sozin's autobiographical account, and envisioning everything he's reading, which in his mind includes the bridges having been destroyed.

Super Grover

Question: The trailer shows the part when Rogers and his men bust open the factory doors (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JerVrbLldXw at 1:59) and the Captain fires off a few shots. It's a different sound from the one in the movie, and I know it's edited in. I'm just extremely certain that I have heard it somewhere in a video game, and it has been driving me nuts that I can't remember what game it came from. Does anyone here know where I might have heard this gunshot effect before?

Arrow (2012)

Show generally

Question: Is this show going to be a part of the Justice League universe DC is creating with the Man of Steel? I'm just wondering, because A) The Green Arrow has been a member of the Justice League in the past and B) they haven't done anything yet in the show to deny or confirm that it's going to be part of that.

Friso94

Chosen answer: There is no evidence at this point to suggest that this is the case. Most indications at this point suggest that Green Arrow is not under consideration as a likely character for any proposed Justice League movie.

Iron Man 2 (2010)

Question: The boxes which contain the particle accelerator are marked "Project Pegasus". Is this some sort of comic book reference?

Friso94

Chosen answer: Yes, it is. Project PEGASUS (standing for Potential Energy Group/Alternate Sources/United States) is principally a scientific base used in multiple stories set in the Marvel Universe, although it has also served as a place of incarceration for super-powered individuals at various points in its existence. Within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Pegasus is the SHIELD scientific base used in the Avengers movie to study the Tesseract, that is destroyed when the portal used to bring Loki to Earth implodes.

The Avengers (2012)

Question: Bruce Banner brings up at one point what SHIELD is doing in the energy business. That is actually a good question. If they want to use the Tesseract to build weapons, why would they spend millions of dollars and their top researchers on energy?

Friso94

Chosen answer: Because the Tesseract is a powerful energy source and only by understanding that energy can they hope to harness it to create the weapons that they need. And there are other applications other than weapons. For example, SHIELD's Helicarrier clearly requires an insane amount of power to keep running; mastering the Tesseract and the potentially unlimited power it provides could give them a whole new range of options there. Likewise their ground installations, vehicles, equipment, all of these need power too. There are plenty of good reasons why SHIELD would look into non-weapon-based uses for the Tesseract's energies.

General questions

I'm looking for the title of a heist movie. I don't have a specific time frame of when it was made, but I do remember that I watched it somewhere between 2001 and 2005 on DVD. It had a (subtle) sex scene in it which took place in a sauna, and I think it ended with the main character putting someone on a weight bomb in a white van, and after that he got out via a secret hatch in the bottom, parked over a sewer.

Friso94

Chosen answer: The movie is "Heist" with Gene Hackman; great movie with numerous twists and surprises...

Question: This may seem like an obvious one, but why wouldn't Alice just let herself get bitten by a zombie to get her powers back? (Preferably, an answer more intelligent than, "for plot purposes").

Friso94

Chosen answer: She wasn't cured of the disease. The virus has already merged with her DNA. They simply suppressed her extra-human abilities. She's still immune, but getting reinfected would do nothing for her.

Question: It is made very clear in Thor that the safest place for powerful, mythical objects is Odin's weapons vault. So why would the Asgardians leave the most powerful and mythical of them all, the Tesseract on earth, behind just the push of a button?

Friso94

Chosen answer: As we have no idea of the circumstances behind the Tesseract ending up hidden in a Norwegian church, we can hardly say that the Asgardians have simply chosen to leave it there. Most likely the reason is that they simply don't know where it is; while they're powerful, they're certainly not omnipotent. If, though some unknown past event, the Tesseract was lost to them, then somebody took considerable care in concealing it, it seems entirely reasonable that the Asgardians would be completely unable to locate it and return it to their vault.

Question: How do One, Rain and Olivera end up in this one? All of them were very thoroughly killed off and the end of their respective movies. Are they clones as well, and if so, why doesn't Umbrella just use new guards?

Friso94

Chosen answer: Umbrella can produce their DNA's again and again. They use them because Alice acts mostly with her feelings and all these persons mean something to her.

Question: SPOILER: What exactly were Talia and Bane waiting for when they stalled the detonation of the bomb? Why would they need to plunge the city into chaos before destroying it, and then wait to the very last minute to actually blow it?

Friso94

Chosen answer: Same reason she wanted Batman alive when the bomb went off: to adequately and thoroughly punish the people of Gotham.

Question: What are the guns the guards in the agnate facility are using? I've been trying to get a good shot, but I just can't find one. I've also checked IMCDB, which usually has an awnser to that question, but they don't have it either.

Friso94

Chosen answer: If you're referring to the guns that shoot mini grappling hooks, I'm fairly certain that those guns haven't been invented yet.

The Avengers (2012)

Question: Thor asks Loki who showed him the true power of the Tesseract. Then, he gets interrupted by Iron Man. But when Captain America asks Thor about Loki's plan, he knows exactly who is coming and why. Did we miss something? Did Thor already know? Or is he just guessing with a hundred percent accuracy?

Friso94

Chosen answer: Odin knew about the army. It is why he used the dark powers to send Thor to earth (a very difficult task according to mythology). Thor was probably referring to Thanos, although we don't find out about his role until the end of the movie.

Titanic (1997)

Question: How far could the rudder panel on the Titanic actually turn? Could it turn 90 degrees, or 45, or something in the middle? I'm wondering, because this could have made a difference.

Friso94

Chosen answer: The Titanic's rudder was capable of turning to about sixty degrees off the centreline, reaching that position in about six seconds from straight.

Question: How did the Decepticons bring something as big as the Driller on Earth unnoticed? It's an earthworm the size of a building. Also, Megatron got here on purpose, Sentinel got here by accident, so did the original Seven Primes, so that would be an extreme number of coincidence. And even if that thing had been here for all these years, how did it manage to stay hidden? It's not like it can transform into something a little more subtle like a car.

Friso94

Chosen answer: Sentinel did not get here by accident. They stated out right that he was headed for Earth when he accidentally crashed on the moon. The Driller went unnoticed because it can tunnel underground; no one saw it. The Primes may have come by accident, but their arrival is the reason all the other Cybertronians keep coming here.
