Character mistake: When Ray and Winston are driving across the Brooklyn Bridge around midnight in the Ectomobile, Ray quotes a verse of scripture claiming to be "Revelation 7:12". What he quotes is actually Revelation 6:12. (01:03:38)

Factual error: When Mr. Peck comes to the Ghostbusters' building with the police and Con Ed, the NYPD captain is wearing a light blue shirt. All NYPD officers Lieutenant and above wear white shirts. Only patrolmen and sergeants wore the light blue shirt. (01:05:10)

Continuity mistake: When Egon tries to prevent Walter Peck from shutting down the protection grid, he has Janine and Vinz (Louis) behind him. You can see that Vinz is raising his right arm, but in the next shot his right arm is now lowered down. (01:06:15)

Continuity mistake: The silly bureaucrats cut power to the containment grid, which is about to blow up. Everyone runs away from the building; there are two main camera angles on the exterior, but they are obviously not in continuity - in the closer angle, natural light shines on the street to the right, while in the wider/higher angle that side of the building is in the shade. Revealing mistake: The Ghostbusters' containment unit explodes with a sinister beam that blasts through the rooftop. In the shot with the camera at street level showing New Yorkers running scared, you can see a blatant light 'halo' around one of them as by-product from the optical effect. (01:08:00)

Revealing mistake: When the ghosts are released from the storage unit, there's a shot of the light beam followed by a wide panoramic view of New York where the ghost lights depart as strings and orbs of energy. If you look at the Empire State Building, you can see that the first orb supposedly passes behind it, but its outline can be in fact seen through it. (01:09:05)

Continuity mistake: When the Ghostbusters are heading for the building, there's a wide view of New York bathed in a sunset light with a red and blue sky. In further close-up shots, there is a clear sunny light everywhere. (01:15:20)

Suggested correction: Most likely the result of the supernatural clouds forming around the building.

If such were the reason it would be the other way around: it should be dark near the building where the ghost-clouds are, but it's not. Therefore it's a continuity mistake due to the scenes being shot in different days.

Audio problem: When the Archbishop says "How are you, Lenny?" to the Mayor in his office, his lips don't match what he is saying. (01:15:55)

Continuity mistake: When the mayor orders Walter Peck out of his office, you can see that he is pointing his finger at Peck, but when the camera angle changes his hand is nowhere to be seen. (01:17:45)

Revealing mistake: While the Ghostbusters ride to the building, there's a view of New York from the park under a red sky. Watch the buildings on the far left: They have a thick white outline around where the real sky was cut-out to allow for the new one to be put in. (01:18:35)

Continuity mistake: When the heros arrive at Dana's building, they're saluted by a crowd. If you pay close attention, you'll see the same extra in two different positions (he's the young - and very "happy" - guy wearing a grey suit and a purple tie). (01:19:30)

Continuity mistake: As the earthquake happens and the ghostbusters fall in the crack, the close-up shot shows Ray holding his gloves, yet in the immediate cut away he is wearing them. (01:20:30)

Continuity mistake: In the scene where the earthquake begins, the Ghostbusters fall into a hole. They're in two rows - in the first row are Venkman and Ray and in the second row are Egon and Winston. In the following shot, it is now Ray and Winston on the first row and Venkman and Egon on the back row. (01:20:30)

Revealing mistake: In the earthquake scene where the road is cracked, you can see the cloth on the side of one of the cracks flapping in the wind. (01:20:35)

Suggested correction: I think I see it, but I am not sure I follow; why can't a cloth flap in the wind during an earthquake?

Revealing mistake: When the police car falls into the hole, if you watch the ground that's rising up in front of it, when it finally comes to a stop, you can see how light it is because it bounces, and you can tell that the pieces of the pavement are moved by hydraulics. (01:20:45)

Continuity mistake: After the pavement cracks and swallows a police car, the chunks of broken pavement next to the car differ between shots. From a back view there are smaller pieces, but from a front view they are a couple of big and long chunks. (01:21:00)

Revealing mistake: Towards the end, when the ground is shaking and breaking up, a police car falls halfway into a hole in the road. When the smoke clears a little you can clearly see two white poles, one on either side of the back left wheel, holding the car in place. (01:21:04)

Revealing mistake: There's a scene where Dana's building is falling apart and stones and stuff are falling to the street below. One of the huge boulders bounces off a wooden police barricade in the bottom left hand corner of the screen, and then off a person. (01:29:14)

Trivia: The brief dream-scene in which Ray appears to receive oral sex from an attractive female spirit was originally part of a much larger sequence, but it was removed for both time and ratings reasons.

Question: Why does Ray drop his trap on the altar? It can be seen all through the 'choose' conversation and when Staypuft first appears.

Answer: He places it on the altar just after they believe they have vaporized Gozer with the proton packs. At this point, thinking the ghost to have been destroyed, he sets it down as he believes the job is done and he will not need it.

Jazetopher

Answer: Ray realised Gozer was too powerful to be caught in the trap, so why carry the extra weight?
