Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back

Continuity mistake: As noted in another mistake, when Han, Leia and Chewbacca are taken captive in Cloud City, two of the stormtroopers change position between shots. This also happens to some of the other troopers, as well as to Lobot, Lando's aide. This is best seen in the widescreen version.

Continuity mistake: When Han gets off the taun-taun when he is searching for Luke, the upper part of his jacket and the garment over his chin is covered in snow. In the next shot facing Han, the snow is gone.

Continuity mistake: When Vader attempts to turn Luke to the dark side, the wires hanging from the structure that Luke is holding onto change in number and position between several shots.

Continuity mistake: At the rebel base on Hoth, the Falcon is being repaired in a hollowed-out snow cave. When Han blasts off out of the cave, none of the debris on the floor or in the cave moves at all, nor is there any effect from the Falcon's exhaust.

Continuity mistake: In the beginning of the scene where Luke meets Yoda, in the shots facing Yoda, his hands and walking stick are positioned in front of his face or shoulder. In the shots from behind him, they are positioned in front of his chest.

Continuity mistake: When the Millennium Falcon is pursued by the Star Destroyers after escaping the space slug and, Han pulls the lever for the hyperdrive. In the next shot from behind, the lever has not been pulled.

Continuity mistake: After the Millennium Falcon has left Hoth and Han is trying to repair the hyperdrive, in the shot after he asks for alluvial dampers, the tool box Chewbacca gives him can be seen in the lower left hand corner. When Chewie takes the box, it is lying in a different position than in the previous shot. As Chewie walks over to Han, he is holding the right side of the box with his right hand, but as he puts it down, he is holding the left side of the box with his left hand. There are also more tools in the box than in the previous shot.

Revealing mistake: During the escape from Cloud City, watch as C-3PO's head strikes a lamp on the hull of the Millennium Falcon. It bends out of shape.

Continuity mistake: When Luke has the vision of Obi-Wan, the amount of snow lying on his back and arm changes significantly between shots. In some shots, he is covered in snow, in others, most of it is gone.

Continuity mistake: On Hoth, when the rebel troops starts to see the At-ST, there is a shot where rebels take place for the battle and there is destroyed equipment and black smoke in the air, even though the battle has not started.

Continuity mistake: When the Empire ship shoots asteroids in the asteroid field, the first one explodes before the laser even hits it.

Continuity mistake: Just before Leia gives the order to evacuate and leaves the control room on Hoth, C3PO can be seen in the background with his hands over his head. The shot changes to a closeup of him, and his hands are now down at his waist.

Continuity mistake: When Yoda and R2-D2 are engaged in a tug-of-war over the little flashlight, Yoda hits him several times with his walking stick. When Artoo lets go, the stick is pointing upwards as Yoda hits him one last time, but in the next shot, Yoda is using it as a walking stick again and it is pointing downwards.

Continuity mistake: When Leia, Han and Chewbacca follow Lando for refreshments, there is a window beside them. When he opens the door and they see that Darth Vader is there, there is no window but a painted panel with glass bricks.

Dr Wilson

Continuity mistake: When the Millenium Falcon escapes from the giant space worm, it comes from the center of the mouth, but viewed from outside, it comes from the side.

Dr Wilson

Revealing mistake: Look carefully at the end of the cavern where the Millenium Falcon enters the giant asteroid. It's a dark blue circle, because the light is dim. But there is a little white circle on the right and the two circles are much brighter on the left side. It's because it's an image of a planet with a moon.

Dr Wilson

Revealing mistake: When we see the Star Destroyer for the first time, there are three of them on screen. The one on the top left, can still be seen even after another Star Destroyer came into frame and blocks the view.

Suggested correction: The Star Destroyer that blocks the other ones from view is transparent. It got fixed for the DVD.

Continuity mistake: After Luke is sucked out the window, he grabs hold of two bars in a railing, and his right hand is above the left one. As he hoists himself up in the next shot, it is the other way round: his left hand is above the right hand.

Continuity mistake: There is a shot from inside the cockpit, just before Luke's snow speeder crashes. Look at the speeder's legs, the proportions are wrong. According to this shot the snow speeder must be tiny.

Yoda: Told you, I did. Reckless is he. Now, matters are worse.
Obi-Wan: That boy is our last hope.
Yoda: No. There is another.

Chosen answer: He "searched his feelings" as Vader instructed; he reached out with the Force and felt the truth of the statement.

Phixius

Answer: The vision Luke sees in the cave on Dagobah is a clue to this. Luke is realizing he has a lot more in common with Darth Vader than the idealized father he'd always imagined. When Vader tells him he's his father, Luke doesn't want to believe it, but he simply can't deny that it feels much more true that his father would be someone passionate and reckless like himself rather than someone who exemplifies a noble Jedi, which feels like an obvious myth in hindsight.
