X-Men

Answer: The train had just started moving, so perhaps they just decided to wait for the first scheduled stop to get off.

Phaneron

Chosen answer: Hard to be exact, as his ability level has varied a fair bit in the comics over the years and it's impossible to know which particular level the moviemakers have chosen. Generally speaking, Logan can heal wounds in a matter of seconds and has been shown to regenerate large quantities of destroyed soft tissue in a few minutes, but certain writers have taken it further. At the very extreme end of the scale, Logan has been shown to swiftly recover fully from the effects of a nearby nuclear explosion and also return to life after having all his flesh stripped from his skeleton, leaving him with just his brain within his adamantium-laced skull. Probably the best way to look at it is that Logan's healing factor operates at whatever level the writer needs it to operate at for the story that they're trying to tell.

Question: During the course of the movie, Magneto is shown to be using a form of flight in the presence of metal, such as the train and Statue of Liberty. Could he perhaps, be able to sustain flight without the presence of metal, such as manipulation via the Earth's magnetic field? Also, what are the limits of such flight?

MovieBuff09

Chosen answer: It is never fully explained in the movie, however in the comics he is shown to be able to use Earth's magnetic field to engage in high speed flight.

Question: During the Statue of Liberty sequence, Magneto uses his powers to bind and restrain the X-Men to the statue. My questions is, why doesn't Jean simply use her Telekinesis to remove said restraints?

ModestFilmCollector

Chosen answer: Because his powers are stronger than hers (in this movie at least).

Grumpy Scot

Question: In the comics, Magneto can use his magnetism to achieve a wide range of effects, such as super strength, supersonic flight, invisibility, radiation manipulation etc. Is there any indication at all as to why he can't do any of these in the movie?

MovieBuff09

Chosen answer: Probably the primary rationale is that they'd then have to somehow explain exactly how you use a magnetism power to do that sort of stuff - let's face it, it's not immediately obvious how, for example, you become invisible using the power to create and manipulate magnetic fields. Comics have captions and thought bubbles to explain the (often very dodgy) science that goes into these things - in a film, all they can do is have a character verbally explain, which would (a) sound pretty ridiculous and (b) require even more exposition in a film that already has a fair bit. As a result, it would make a lot of sense to restrict his abilities to those that obviously stem from his magnetic power and thus avoid too much explanation.

Answer: It's there in the comics, although it's largely been replaced with a mutual respect after working together for as long as they have in the comic stories.

Question: A woman named Hannah Groves is credited in the movie as Rita, but I don't remember anyone named Rita in the movie. Can someone tell me who she is?

Answer: Somewhat confused by this, as a check down the cast listings for X-Men, X-Men 1.5 (the extended version) and X2 (just in case) has failed to show any credit for either an actress or character with those names. Nor is there a Hannah Groves listed on the IMDb. Your information may simply be wrong.

Question: In the scene where Bobby and Rogue meet in the classroom, what subject was Storm teaching?

Answer: The blackboard has "THE ROMAN EMPIRE" written at the top, so presumably it was a history class.

Question: How can Sabertooth take so much damage from Wolverine and still be fighting fit throughout their confrontation? He takes at least two deep stabs in the chest from Wolverine yet seems almost totally unaffected. Can Sabertooth regenerate like Wolverine?

Answer: Yes, Sabertooth regenerates like Wolverine. In the comics, he has at times been presented as Logan's father, although at other times other writers have disagreed.

Carl Fink

Question: Why do Wolverine's previously healed wounds open again after he 'lends' his power to Rouge to save her life, and why don't all the injuries he has sustained throughout his life open up again?

Answer: These are the wounds that he's sustained during his fight with Sabretooth - while his healing power has closed them up, they're not fully healed yet. As such, when the power goes to Rogue, they're able to open back up. Earlier wounds have had the time to completely heal, so they don't reappear.

Question: Is there anywhere on the internet where I can listen to the song playing over the scene towards the end when Wolverine gives his powers to Rogue after rescuing her from Magneto's machine?

Answer: The song's name is "Logan and Rogue" and it's by Michael Kamen. Dunno where you can get it on the 'net, though. Some P2P network might help you.

Question: I never read the comics but I used to watch the cartoons when I was younger and I'm sure that Wolverine was with Storm, and I don't remember him liking Jean Gray. What happens here? Did he like Jean then go on to Storm?

Answer: Wolverine always had a thing for Jean. They were together in the Age of Apocolypse series (alternate reality). He was also in love with her in the cartoon in the mid 1990's.

Maria Santos

Answer: I remember the cartoon series too. Storm and Wolverine were a couple in alternative timelines set in the future after Jean died or never was an X-Men.

Question: Does anyone actually know how old Wolverine is? When Jean is telling the X-men after his physical, she mentions that he may actually be older than the professor.

Answer: According to the comics (which may differ from the films), Logan was born James Howlett, in the latter part of the 19th century, most likely around 1890.

Question: This goes for X-men 1 and 2, why are some of the characters, i.e Beast, Gambit, Spike not in the films?

Answer: The characters were chosen for popularity, practicality of costuming (Mystique is enough without doing Beast's blue fur as well), and contribution to the storyline, since there were simply too many X-Men to include them all. Also, it leaves characters for sequels (like Nightcrawler).

Xofer

Question: Im confused. I know Magneto isn't psychic and he doesn't have cerebro so how does know where Rogue is, or who she is to send Sabertooth to get her? How does he know when exactly to send Mystique to the school to tell Rogue to leave? How would he know what's going on?

Asdfaeou

Chosen answer: There were news reports about Rogue's experience with her boyfriend. Magneto was pursuing her during her journey to Canada. Mystique was at the school off and on for quite a while to spy on the X-Men.

Timothy Cheseborough

Chosen answer: That would be the person in the fight near the beginning, who says he'll fight Wolverine after the ring announcer asks if anyone is willing to fight).

Jez

Question: Why does Rogue get that blonde-white streak in her hair at the end? I've never read the comic books, so if the answer's there, I wouldn't know.

Answer: It's from the stress of powering Magneto's device.

J I Cohen

Answer: In the comics the explanation is different. In the movie it's because Magneto channeled his powers through her, since they held on very long she didn't only take over his powers but eventually his physical appearance as well, his silver hair.

lionhead

Answer: In the comic books, Rogue could fly and was impervious to bullets. She got those abilities from another mutant, but she accidentally drained too much and received a permanent fix. That is what gave her the grey streak in her hair and put the other mutant in a coma.

Continuity mistake: When Wolverine crashes into the tree knocked over by Sabertooth, notice that the entire front of the truck gets completely folded up and the windshield breaks into a thousand pieces. In the next frame, Wolverine gets thrown through the unbroken windshield and the front of the truck is practically undamaged... (00:18:05)

Magneto: Are you a God-fearing man, Senator? It's such a strange phrase. I always thought of God as a teacher. As a bringer of light, wisdom and understanding. You see, I think what you really are afraid of is me. Me and my kind. The Brotherhood of Mutants.

Trivia: When Logan meets Professor Xavier for the first time, the girl who forgets her bag and then goes through the closed door is Kitty Pryde, aka Shadowcat.
