Continuity mistake: After Elisabeth sees the drawing that Carl's daughter made, she asks "Did your daughter paint that" and the shot cuts to Carl looking toward her. In this shot, he is leaning against the desk as he is writing in the report. A few seconds later, he asks why she thinks she is there, sitting in the same position. He doesn't move when the camera cuts to Elisabeth, but he is suddenly leaning to the right when it cuts back. (00:22:26)
Continuity mistake: When Carl leaves his office, Elisabeth goes to look at the medical report on his desk. In the shot of her standing from her chair and reaching over to the desk, there is no pen beside the folder. When she picks up the report in the next shot, a pen has suddenly appeared next to it. Continuity mistake: When Carl returns to his office and realises Elisabeth has read the medical report, in the shot of him sitting back down in his chair, the report folder briefly disappears from his desk for one shot, before reappearing in the next shot. (00:24:35)
Continuity mistake: When Elisabeth is begging Carl not to have her taken away, she wraps her arms around his legs. Another doctor runs into the room and begins to pull her off him. In the shot of her saying "I could be her sister", she has both arms wrapped around his legs. The camera then cuts to a closer shot of Elisabeth, and her arms are suddenly off his legs. (00:26:10)
Continuity mistake: Carl takes out a folded handkerchief to wipe Elisabeth's tear off his shoe. After wiping, it, his hand is placed on the back side of the handkerchief. When the shot cuts, his hand is suddenly placed behind one of the folds in the handkerchief. (00:27:15)
Continuity mistake: Johann is given a Nazi pin and is told not to forget the "Heil Hitler" salute. Just after this happens, Kurt's mother walks ahead of Johann and he can be seen behind her with his hands at his side. The shot then cuts and Johann's hands are suddenly raised so that he can adjust the Nazi pin. (00:28:23)
Continuity mistake: Kurt and his grandmother are watching the bomber planes fly over their house. His mother then comes outside and in the first shot of her, no hair can be seen going over the front of her nightgown. In the next shot, there is suddenly some hair shown going over the front of it. Continuity mistake: When Kurt's mother joins Kurt and his grandmother to see the bomber planes flying toward the city, in the shot of the mother approaching the two, her hands are away from Kurt. When the shot cuts, her hand is suddenly placed on Kurt's shoulder. (00:31:10)
Continuity mistake: When the Russians approach the destroyed building to take Carl into custody, three women can be seen walking past it. The woman in the red dress and the woman in the green dress are side by side. When the camera cuts to a closer angle, the woman in the red dress is ahead of the woman in the green dress. (00:34:31)
Continuity mistake: When the Russians drive up to the destroyed building, a woman in a blue dress can be seen. The woman's hat falls off, and she begins to turn around to pick it up. In the next shot, she is suddenly facing forwards again with the hat back in her hand. (00:34:32)
Continuity mistake: When the Russians confront Carl in his office, Carl begins to raise his hands slightly so that they can handcuff him. In the first shot, he is in the middle of raising his hands. But in the next shot, his hands are raised to be level with his stomach and are completely still. (00:34:52)
Continuity mistake: When the Major shows Carl the photo of Burghard Kroll, in the shot of him raising the photo so that Carl can see it, his finger is pressed against the top right corner. It then cuts to a close-up of the photo where the Major's finger is now more toward the middle of the top side of the photo. (00:36:10)
Continuity mistake: When the Major's wife is in labor, after the doctor takes off his stethoscope, the wife is shown with her left hand on her belly and is looking directly forward. In the next shot, her left hand is on the bed and is looking to the left. (00:38:25)
Continuity mistake: Whilst in labor, the doctor places his hands over the Major's wife's belly. The shot then cuts to the wife saying "Too hot" and the doctor's hands cannot be seen around her belly. (00:38:30)
Continuity mistake: When Carl is delivering the Major's wife's baby, the wife is shown grabbing onto the nurse's hand. When Carl says "We must wait for the next contraction", the wife's hand is being held so that it is completely covered up by the nurse's hand. In the next shot, the wife's fingers can be seen sticking out of the nurse's hand (something that was not shown in the previous shot). (00:42:42)
Continuity mistake: When Carl has finished delivering the Major's wife's baby, whilst holding the baby, his right hand is shown holding onto the baby's back. In the next shot, his right hand is holding onto the baby's chest. (00:43:05)
Continuity mistake: When Kurt begins to climb down from the tree, his left hand is shown grabbing onto a small branch. When the shot cuts, both hands are now shown holding onto a completely different and bigger branch. (00:45:35)
Continuity mistake: Waltraud walks up to Johann and places a tea pot on his work desk. Both straps of the apron she is wearing are shown over her shoulders. In the next shot, the strap on the left-hand side is suddenly off her shoulder and down by her elbow. The strap is then over her shoulder again in the next shot, then off her shoulder in the shot after that. (00:47:27)
Continuity mistake: Whilst Kurt is painting the banners, just as his colleague asks "Do you do that so you can feel better than us", the letter O that Kurt is painting is more than half way filled in. About twenty seconds later, after speaking with the colleague briefly, the letter O is only half filled in. (00:49:05 - 00:49:30)
Continuity mistake: When Kurt is caught drawing by his boss, he knocks over the paint tin on his work desk. There is a paint brush in it that is pointed toward him when he picks it back up. Two shots later, the paint brush is suddenly pointed in the opposite direction. Three shots after that, the paint brush is suddenly back to its original position. (00:50:05)
