Factual error: The President goes to the G8 summit in Toronto at the end. The G8 is comprised of Canada, United States, Britain, France, Italy, Japan, Germany and Russia. In the room there are a number of non-G8 countries represented.
Factual error: When Julia gets on the motorcycle the engine starts with a turn of the key, and then turns off the kill switch. In real life the motorcycle starts after you turn the key, disengage the kill switch then push the electric start button.
Factual error: When Officer Cybil Bennett is burned alive over a roaring bonfire, we see her clothing start to smoke and the skin of her face blacken, split open and peel away from the intense heat (all of which are added digital effects, of course). Yet her blonde hair does not burn, smoke, nor even singe as her face is roasted. Her hair should have been the first thing to burn away.
Factual error: When Chevy is free-falling from the helicopter, his jacket is flapping gently in the breeze. In reality, he would have been falling so fast that his clothes would have been plastered against his back and flapping wildly in the front.
Factual error: When Norah offers Tyler a ride home, she says she is taking him to her special place near Hampden. That place turns out to be at the docks near the Key Bridge, miles away and nowhere near Hampden. (00:47:55)
Factual error: In the last part of the movie when the animals attack, one of the hunters call the warden. The hunter's phone is a SonyEricsson W710i. This phone does not support video calls and no camera on the LCD part of the phone where it fell forward and supposedly showed the videos to the sheriff.
Factual error: You can tell that the "Brillo pad" Andrew eats is not real as Andrew would have been VERY ill due to the cleansing chemicals on the pad and the fact that the metal would have cut his mouth considerably. There was no blood, no foam coming out of his mouth (the box says Oxy action implying foam), and he keeps eating despite that the taste would have been horrible.
Factual error: When Eisenheim is at the Vienna rail station, catching his train after the Crown Prince has died, the overhead electric cables of the modern railway are visible in several shots.
Factual error: In the scene where Captain Vidal's dinner guests arrive in the rainstorm, Vidal's men are using automatic umbrellas which weren't invented until the 1960s. The film is set in 1944. (00:38:20)
Factual error: In the Radiator Springs courtroom there is a Latin motto over the doorway, that should read "Justitiae via strata veritate" Which means: "The path of justice is paved with truth." But the first word is spelled wrong as "Justitae."
Factual error: At the end when Ryan Reynolds unplugs Israel and Sparazza, both Israel and Sparazza die. Only Sparazza is on a ventilator. Israel is on a regular oxygen mask, which requires the patient to be breathing without assistance, such as a breathing machine. The type of mask Israel was on is not a life support mechanism that would be affected by being unplugged, as it either runs from O2 from a wall insert or directly from an O2 tank, both of which run without electricity. I work in an ER so I know how O2 systems work.
Factual error: Although "Myearth" is a fictional site for the movie, all satellite sites (such as Google earth, etc.) show images during daylight hours (though I've seen rare exceptions of images during twilight hours). How could Buddy expect to not see his house (with or without lights) when the images show during the day?
Factual error: In the scene where Alex is challenged by one of the testers to play Frog Bog, he shows it to Alex for the Xbox. Frog Bog was released for the Intellivision but wasn't available on the Xbox until 2010, after the release of this movie.
Factual error: Throughout the film, most Japanese words are spelled in Katakana. In real-life Japanese, however, Katakana is exclusively used for foreign words adopted into Japanese language, like 'table', 'television' (mostly it is abbreviated to 'telebi') and 'racing car'. But in the film, even indiginous Japanese words such as 'samurai' are spelled in Katakana, not - as they should be - in Hiragana (the syllable system used for native words).
Factual error: After the last of the crew is in the water, (girl with life vest goes in), a major land mass is seen not more than a mile from where the crew was left stranded. (00:24:00)
Suggested correction: There is no actual land mass shown after the girl with the life vest is thrown into the water. The land that is shown is from her memory as child.
Factual error: When the Toad's foot breaks the pipe of liquid nitrogen, it should have frozen the water immediately, but it takes a lot more time to allow the wave to get closer.
Factual error: There are numerous rusty warning signs around the test sites from the Department of Energy. The DOE wasn't created until 1977 but the tests occurred from 1945 to 1962. They should have read Atomic Energy Commission (AEC). (00:06:40)
Factual error: During the "University Challenge" competition: Brian answers a question with "Calcium Sulphite" and the question-master says he gave the correct answer of "Calcium Sulphate" (a different compound).
Factual error: The movie is set in 1983, but small satellite dishes seen attached to homes were only available around 1989 when Sky was introduced, and the even smaller sizes visible on some homes did not exist until many years later.
Factual error: The two uniformed police officers who take Dargis away at the end have haircuts that touch their collars. Plain clothed officers are allowed to be less stringent about their appearance, uniformed officers are most certainly not, and long hair like that simply doesn't happen.
