Star Trek
Star Trek mistake picture

Season 1 generally

Other mistake: The closing credits of thirteen episodes in season 1 have the word "Script" misspelled as "Scpipt" for the episode's script supervisor, either George Rutter or Billy Vernon. The episodes are: "The Galileo Seven"; "The Squire of Gothos"; "Arena"; "Tomorrow is Yesterday"; "The Return of the Archons"; "Space Seed"; "A Taste of Armageddon"; "This Side of Paradise"; "Devil in the Dark"; "Errand of Mercy"; "The Alternative Factor"; "The City on the Edge of Forever"; "Operation - Annihilate!"

Charlie X - S1-E3

Other mistake: Spock and McCoy have a brief argument over whether Charlie could have survived on his own all those years. Because they're talking at the same time, Spock saying "Doctor" as McCoy says "Mr. Spock," the closed captioner apparently misunderstood McCoy's line. The caption has him calling Spock "Dr. Spock." Arena - S1-E19

Other mistake: Kirk's voice-over log entry says he's been "placed on the surface of an asteroid." The Metrons earlier referred to it as a planet prepared for them with a suitable atmosphere. How and why does Kirk suddenly assume that it's an asteroid rather than a full sized planet? As an experienced space veteran, Kirk, who has already been told that it's a planet, would never make such a mistake. (00:23:45)

The Enemy Within - S1-E6

Other mistake: On some VHS editions of this episode, the back cover features a picture of what appears to be both good and evil Kirk sitting at a table, however this never happens anywhere in the episode. That picture is actually from the episode "What Are Little Girls Made Of?"

The Alternative Factor - S1-E28

Other mistake: When Spock calls Kirk to the bridge after he discovers the Lazarus energy source, he and Lazarus head to the bridge. There is a shot of McCoy standing in the corridor, and one of the red alert panels is burned out while the other is still flashing.

The Naked Time - S1-E5

Other mistake: In the Briefing Room, while Kirk is feeling the effects of the disease, Spock tells Scotty that he will call the restart formula in from the bridge. But just a moment later, Kirk enters the Bridge, and Spock is in the Engine Room working on the settings and formula with Scotty.

Balance of Terror - S1-E15

Other mistake: Kirk orders the helm to get phasers ready to fire at the Romulan vessel. When the helm responds, it's not the phaser banks that fire, but photon torpedoes. (00:32:58)

Space Seed - S1-E23

Other mistake: Spock calls for McGivers and Scotty to the transporter room. In the Transporter Room, Scotty is at the controls, then after he went to the Transporter pad, they used a stock shot of his hands working the controls.

The Return of the Archons - S1-E22

Other mistake: On the bridge, as the camera looks at the view screen, there is a flashing blue light reflecting on the console in front of Sulu, but there is no light other than scanner under the viewer flashing and it's too far away to project light that far, and it's amber colored.

Movie Nut

Balance of Terror - S1-E15

Other mistake: The red alert light at the entrance to the chapel blinks a few times and stops, even though the rest are still flashing. Also, the last thing Kirk says is "All decks, condition red", which is unnecessary, since the red alert has already begun sounding.

Movie Nut

The Menagerie (2) - S1-E13

Other mistake: When the transporter comes on to beam up Pike, the blonde ensign goes to face the transporter. As she does, she glances down at the floor to find her mark, and stands on it, looking into the chamber.

The City on the Edge of Forever - S1-E29

Other mistake: When talking to Edith Keeler one evening, Kirk refers to a star in Orion's belt, pointing it out. The shot then cuts to a scene of the horizon. The sky is quite cloudy and the light from the sun is still lighting the horizon. The stars would not be visible.

Birdzip

Tomorrow is Yesterday - S1-E20

Factual error: Towards the end of the show the Enterprise is leaving Earth orbit and heading towards the sun. We see the Earth diminish and the moon appear looking exactly as it does from Earth. From this angle we should be seeing the "dark side" of the moon, which looks completely different. (00:40:50)

Trivia: An ending that was planned but abandoned for this episode would have revealed that Lieutenant Palamas was pregnant with Apollo's child.

What Are Little Girls Made Of? - S1-E8

Question: When the Enterprise is in orbit, it uses the Impulse engines to maintain orbit. The Impulse engines are located on the back (aft) of the primary saucer. Why were these not on or lit up? Unless they're using gravity, but there are the familiar engine sounds.

Movie Nut

Chosen answer: If they're in orbit, they're being pulled along by the planet's gravity well, therefore, impulse engines would only be used for minor corrections and would be "on standby" while in orbit, but not active. (Like keeping your car idling without revving the engine and creating plumes of exhaust).
