However, the way the metal on the clasp was bent, the only way the wooden plank could've been positioned that way is if the metal was over his shoulder.

Continuity mistake: In the scene where Peter gets a ride from Cleveland, there is no one behind the wheel of the car while Peter is walking up to the front door.
Continuity mistake: When Peter walks away from Brian with the hula hoop around his waist, he runs into the stereo, knocking a vase of flowers on the floor, shattering the vase. Next shot shows the mess cleaned up without anyone even cleaning it. (00:04:45)

Answer: Mort is Jewish, and Walt Disney was said to be antisemitic. So it would make sense in a Disney universe all the inhabitants would share his supposed beliefs.
