Continuity mistake: As Gamling and Hama ride past Aragorn and Éowyn, a snowy high mountain range can be seen right behind them. As they are riding past Legolas' view, over Legolas' head, another greener mountain range is right behind them. These shots were filmed at different locations. (00:08:15)

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Continuity mistake: As Faramir recalls Boromir's speech, the Horn of Gondor is slung over Boromir's shoulder. In the shots from behind, the Horn is high up on his back, next to his cloak. In the shots from the front, the Horn is much lower at his hip, under his cloak. (00:31:55)

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Continuity mistake: The bodies and rocks behind Gimli change positions, between shots. When Gimli says the words, "That's not bad for a pointy-eared Elvish Princeling," there is a rock right behind Gimli to his right. In his close-up it's not there. Yet, when the camera does another close-up, when he reacts to the arrow between his legs, the rock is to his right again. When Gimli says the words, "I myself am sitting pretty on forty three," behind him to his right, a Rohan turns over the body of an Uruk onto its back. When Gimli says the words, "He was already dead," that Uruk hasn't been turned over. (01:39:00)

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Trivia: While they were waiting between takes on set, the extras who portrayed the Uruk-hai at Helm's Deep started chanting, singing and tapping their spears on the ground, to the beat of their singing (probably because many of the extras were Maori, the native people of New Zealand, and the chanting was a Maori haka). This is how the idea evolved for Peter Jackson to use it in the movie. It developed into the dramatic piece of the chanting and pounding of spears, by the Uruk-hai, at the stand off in Helm's Deep. As heard on the Appendices DVD.

Continuity mistake: When Sam first reaches into his pack, in the close-up, he takes out the lembas bread and says, "Oh yes. Lovely", one corner of the leaf is sticking up. As he continues to say, "Lembas bread", in this wide shot, all the corners of the leaf are now down and completely covering the lembas bread. (00:07:20)

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Continuity mistake: Aragorn remembers what Gandalf said, "...at dawn look to the East." Theoden crosses the floor in front of Aragorn saying, "The horn of Helm Hammerhand shall sound in the Deep," as Aragorn turns around towards Theoden. Theoden now turns to face Aragorn, as he continues, "one last time." In the next shot, Theoden puts his hand on Aragorn's shoulder, behind Aragorn is a chair to his right. The next shot of Theoden close up shows his back to the front guarded door of the chamber with the chair overturned behind him. Earlier when Theoden crosses the floor past Aragorn, their positions changed. It should be Aragorn's back facing the front guarded door of the chamber now. Also, the overturned chair should be upright. (01:27:20)

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Continuity mistake: At the flooded Isengard, the first shots of Pip and Merry are in front of Saruman's storeroom. Floating in the water, directly behind them are a large barrel and a large crate. In the shots of them turning to enter the storeroom, the floating barrel and crate are gone. Extended DVD. (01:40:15)

Continuity mistake: When Merry and Pippin first enter Saruman's storeroom, in the close-up, Merry is holding an apple and a large glass carafe with wine. As the camera pans out, to show the whole storeroom, he is no longer holding the large glass carafe, but he is holding an apple and a turkey. Extended DVD. (01:40:20)

Continuity mistake: On the way to the old sewer in Osgiliath, in the first shot, we see Faramir leading Frodo and Sam with Gollum in the rear. In the next two shots, Gollum is directly behind Faramir now, with the two Hobbits reaching the entrance first. Extended DVD. (01:41:35)

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Trivia: In Faramir's dream, Boromir is in the boat, with water around him. The color of the water is pink, because Sean Bean's (Boromir) shirt was leaking dye into the water. Since it kept occurring in the retakes too, Peter Jackson decided to just leave it in, figuring it was a "symbolic blood-type effect." (00:31:30)

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Deliberate mistake: In two scenes in particular, Legolas is letting loose his arrow with his left hand, because of shot flipping. When he kills the Warg approaching Gimli and when Legolas severs the rope, causing the tall ladder to collapse. The ladder shots of Legolas were put together later during editing, because Peter J. wanted an extra 'hero' shot of Legolas at Helm's Deep. They took the same shots of Legolas trying to take out the Berserker Uruk-hai and flipped it to specifically fit the later scene of the ladders going up. Commentary, extended DVD. Trivia: In order to get the stunt Elves riled up enough to be on the offensive during certain scenes, the very aggressive stunt Uruk-hai would nastily taunt and mock them incessantly on the set and even call them, "Cupcakes." It worked! Commentary, extended DVD.

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Continuity mistake: As Legolas surfs down the steps, we see some dead bodies at the bottom of them, which he surfs right over. A few shots later, we see an aerial view of the wall with those same steps and there aren't any bodies at the bottom of the steps. (01:11:05)

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Continuity mistake: When the Uruk-hai slam into the chamber door with the battering ram, just before Theoden yells, "Forth Eorlingas!" we can see the damage done to the wood on the right door on the outside. As the Uruks start to run in, we also see some different damage to the metal trim on that door. However, as Theoden rides past that door on his horse, the damage to the door is gone! (01:28:35)

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Continuity mistake: At the Armory, in the first close-up of Aragorn, he looks at a sword in his hand and tosses it down. The right sleeve of his coat is ripped almost all the way around at the seam by his shoulder, and the sleeve is folded over where it's ripped. When he tosses the sword down, there is a glimpse of his left sleeve, and it too is ripped and folded over at the seam. In his next close-up, the right sleeve's seam is ripped much less and it isn't folded over. The left sleeve however, is ripped like in the earlier shot. This is not a case of shot flipping. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Continuity mistake: Legolas says, "Look at them. They're frightened. I can see it in their eyes." In the next wide shot, we see Aragorn's back, men all around, and behind him, to the right, stands Dan Hennah, with wavy, grey hair, in his cameo. In the following close-up, we see Dan Hennah again, standing to Aragorn's left. We also see Alan Lee's cameo, whereas, in the wide shot, Alan's character is not there. (00:53:10)

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Continuity mistake: When Boromir first goes over and hugs Denethor, Boromir puts both of his arms under both of Denethor's arms for the hug, as seen from Faramir's POV. In the next shot, from behind Denethor, we now see Boromir's left arm is on Denethor's right shoulder and Boromir's right arm is under Denethor's left arm. Extended DVD. (00:33:25)

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Continuity mistake: After Aragorn says to Haleth, "Give me your sword," in the wide shot we see that Aragorn is sitting on the tail of his coat and the coat is draped down the steps under his legs. When Aragorn rises, just after Haleth says, "...They say that it is hopeless," we see that the coat is not draped down the steps under his legs, as in the earlier shot. It is not the legs' shadow. Trivia: During the location shooting at Edoras, there were very strong winds, as can be seen by the actors' hair, especially Éowyn's. During one particular day's filming, the wind was so strong that it tore Peter Jackson's glasses right off his face, and blew them straight down the hill. He had to spend the rest of that day without them.
