Continuity mistake: Faramir captures Sam and Frodo. Faramir goes over to the dead body, and says, "His sense of duty was no less than yours, I deem," and rolls over one of the Haradrim with his foot. The dead man is lying with his face towards the ground. In the earlier shot, when he fell off the Mûmak and landed behind Frodo and Sam, the right side of his face is lying on the ground. It is the same man in both shots. (01:44:55 - 01:45:40)

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Revealing mistake: Sam says "There's only one way to eat a brace of coneys" and in the next close-up, Sam stirs the stew. The rolled up blanket is behind the hanging pot, which means it's on Sam's right. In the next three shots, Sam's pack is behind the pot, not the rolled blanket, to Sam's right. Then, in the next close-up of the pot, it's the very same close-up shot as before, only it's been flipped, and the rolled blanket is there, near the pot again, this time to Sam's left. (01:41:40)

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Continuity mistake: At Edoras, as Éowyn says, "Now the Wildmen are moving through the Westfold, burning as they go, rick, cot and tree," Aragorn and Gimli sit at a table across the room. In this shot, the candle on their table has drippings going down the side of the candle. When Aragorn says, "You have two thousand good men..." the candle is taller and does not have those drippings. Aragorn says, "Open war is upon you..." and the candle now has more drippings than in that first shot. (01:27:35)

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Continuity mistake: In the stable at Edoras, Éowyn gives the saddle to someone, then starts to walk towards Aragorn, and her long hair is spread out all around her shoulders. Cut to the close-up shot, and her hair is now parted at the neck, hanging straight down in front and back. When Aragorn walks away, her hair is all around her shoulders again. (01:31:40)

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Revealing mistake: When Gollum brings the two rabbits, he drops them onto Frodo's lap, and Frodo is leaning up against one of the broken stone structures. After Frodo opens his eyes, the stone structure behind him vibrates when he moves a couple of times. This structure should be way too heavy to jiggle when Frodo moves. (01:41:05)

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Continuity mistake: At Henneth Annun, Faramir who is alone with Frodo and Sam, walks towards Frodo with his sword pointed at him. Behind Faramir, are many spears leaning against the wall. Then there's a shot of Frodo. In the very next shot there are fewer spears behind Faramir, and they are lined up very differently against the wall too. They are alone, and no one touched the spears. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Continuity mistake: In Osgiliath, after Frodo and Sam fall down the steps, Frodo is sitting on top of Sam holding Sting to his throat. In the wide shot, Sam's leg is beside the wall. Yet, in the close-up, when he starts to rise, the wall is right next to his head. (01:34:20)

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Continuity mistake: In Osgiliath, when Sam says, "I know. It's all wrong. By rights we shouldn't even be here," he is standing up right next to the wall. In the next shot, of Sam's back, he is standing a few feet away from the wall. In the next shot, he's next to the wall, and then starts to walk to the archway, for his 'Sam' speach. (01:34:55)

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Continuity mistake: In Osgiliath, before Sam's speech, in the wide shot showing Sam's back, the large fry pan hangs down, below the small fry pan, on Sam's back. In the next shot, in front of Sam, the large fry pan is seen sticking out, just behind Sam's right shoulder. (01:35:10)

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Continuity mistake: Gollum's hands are bound behind his back, during Sam's speech. After Sam's speech, Faramir walks over and while he's speaking to Frodo and Sam, Gollum is shown rubbing his hands. Faramir has not yet said, "Then it is forfeit. Release them." Gollum's ties would not yet have been cut. As explained on the commentary, they needed shots of Gollum for this sequence, so they pinched them from other moments, and inserted them here. (01:35:15 - 01:37:45)

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Continuity mistake: After Legolas leaps onto Arod, the men on horseback change in their arrangement, as they charge towards the Warg Riders. In one shot Gamling is just drawing his sword, while riding between Theoden and Legolas. Next shot is a Rohan rider directly behind Legolas. Then in the next shot of Theoden, it shows Gamling drawing his sword again, riding behind Legolas. (00:10:45)

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Continuity mistake: When the Warg raises his head from his kill, he spots Gimli and he growls, showing his blood stained teeth. There are spikes on both sides of the harness around his neck. When he charges toward Gimli, Legolas kills him and he falls right in front of Gimli. There are no spikes on the harness, nor are his teeth stained with blood as before. (00:11:20)

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Continuity mistake: Just before Brego comes up to an unconscious Aragorn, his sword is lying on his left side, perpendicular to his body, with the blade facing towards his back and the hilt facing his front. In the next shot, before Aragorn even rolls over onto his back, the blade is now pointing up his back and the hilt is at his thigh. Also once again, the tear in the coat and shirt at Aragorn's left shoulder is very different in both shots, as it is in many of the following shots too. (00:20:55)

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Continuity mistake: On the way to Helm's Deep, when they stop for the night, Éowyn offers Aragorn some stew. As Aragorn is putting the spoon into his mouth, in the wide shot, there is a piece of 'white food' hanging over the side of the bowl near his right hand, Aragorn's hair is messy, blowing on his forehead and his hair is put behind his left ear. In the following close-up shot of his reaction to the taste of the stew, the 'white food' isn't hanging off the side of the bowl, his hair isn't as messy on his forehead and he has more hair in front of his ear now. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Deliberate mistake: Legolas leaps onto Arod and as he rides, both of his hands are clean. After they've just clashed into the Warg riders, in the close-up of Legolas as he releases his arrow there are dark smudges visible on Legolas' fingers and knuckles on his right hand. In the close-up of Legolas as he lets loose the arrow into the Warg that is about to attack Gimli, we see both of his hands are smudge free. This shot is flipped, so the right hand that was previously smudged is now the left hand, which is clean anyway. (00:11:00)

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Continuity mistake: Gimli is lying with his face under the water, after jumping off the Deeping Wall and landing on the Uruk-hai. In the close-up, the right arm that grabs Gimli's shoulder to help him out of the water is Legolas' right arm. Yet, in the wide shot, suddenly it is Aragorn helping Gimli to his feet, not Legolas. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Continuity mistake: When the Uruk-hai are on the causeway, after using the battering ram on the door. The shape of the opening in the door varies between the outside shots and indoor shots. (01:16:40)

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Revealing mistake: After Haldir dies, Aragorn jumps onto the only ladder resting against the steps 'inside' the Deeping Wall. Hanging onto the ladder, he then falls on top of the Uruk-hai down below. The ladder is now lying on the ground perpendicular to the steps of the wall. However, when Aragorn runs up the stone steps on the side of the Keep, in the aerial CG shot of the wall below, the ladder is not lying on the ground where it should be, under the scurrying feet of the Uruk-hai. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Continuity mistake: Gimli yells, "Aragorn!" then as he jumps into the air, on that same wall, is a dead body hanging over the edge, next to the smoldering lantern. In the earlier shot, just before Aragorn lifts his head down below, as the camera panned over the Deeping Wall, there was no dead body lying at the top near the edge, next to a smoldering lantern. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Continuity mistake: When Frodo and Sam are down below, near the Black Gate, wanting to run in, but Gollum is convincing Frodo not to, Frodo's pants have a couple of holes at the left knee. Later, when Gollum dives for the fish in the rocky stream, Frodo's pants don't have the holes at the left knee, as seen when he's walking with Sam. Frodo did not change his pants, and this is before they have spent the night, which is the scene right after this one. (01:06:00 - 01:36:55)
