Trivia: The main ghost was played by receptionist Greta Hicks, made up and dressed in a white robe. She was suspended with wires and filmed flying away from the camera. The footage was reversed for the film (this can be spotted in the ghost's hair). For the Angel of Death, a life-size skeletal dummy dressed as Greta was filmed and superimposed on the film.

Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
Question: Is it possible that this film had an alternate ending? In the audio of Raiders of the Lost Ark: The Movie on Record (released the same year, 1981), during the opening of the Ark, we can hear sounds, scenes, and screams that never appear in the final film (or in any deleted scenes). Examples of this are the sounds of the spirits, Dietrich's second scream, and Indy saying "You're all right, you're all right" to Marion (she answers "Yes...") after the Ark closes.

Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
Continuity mistake: When Indy is entering Marhala Bar, Steve Hanson is right behind him, following Indy inside. In the next shot, Steve is suddenly standing next to Belloq (he seems to have arrived before Indy did). (00:43:08)

Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
Continuity mistake: Between the shots of Indy dressing as a Nazi and Captain Mohler reporting to Belloq and Dietrich, the Wurrfler appears to have advanced several inches forward (taking as reference the background behind the submarine, Mohler's location, and the fact that Belloq turns his head to the left to look at the Captain).

Continuity mistake: As Dietrich, Toht, Belloq and Marion board the Wurrfler, a naval officer descends the ladder and turns, his back to the ladder. In the next shot, he is facing the ladder.

Continuity mistake: In the Bantu Wind, the right arm of the soldier standing next to where Indy is hiding changes its position twice during Katanga's and Dietrich's speech.

Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
Continuity mistake: The Angel of Death, judging from the position of the lid of the Ark (the two angels can be seen below the ghost), is located just above Dietrich's head. However, Toht screams as if it were right in front of him and Dietrich as if it were in front of Belloq (judging by their looks).

Visible crew/equipment: In a shot of Belloq speaking to Indy in the Well of Souls, in some shots of the Desert Chase (such as when Belloq shouts Allah va!) and when the three villains enter the submarine with Marion, Wolf Kahler's double is seen, who has black hair. (01:10:43 - 01:24:42)

Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
Question: I remember seeing a couple of scenes only once. The first showed the inside of the Ark (as in the scene where the portal opens) with fire coming out of it. The second was a side shot of the Altar where you could see the fire lifting the bodies of the three main villains. Does anyone know where these scenes can be seen?

Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
Question: I've never understood why the three antagonists never escape and continue to scream after the ghosts have gone. Is there something horrible that they see and the audience don't that freezes them and makes them scream in fear?
Answer: The audience sees everything they see. At first, they're transfixed by the magical apparitions around them and are marvelling at how beautiful/supernatural/awe-inspiring it is. Just as, I imagine, anyone else would. Then, the figure in front of them changes into something terrifying, and they scream in fear because they realise whatever is coming out of the Ark is, to put it mildly, not friendly. Then (again, as you'd expect), they are rooted to the spot in terror, and after that, well, it's kind of hard to escape when your face is melting off and/or exploding.

Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
Audio problem: After Dietrich pours liquor for himself, he speaks to Belloq. One of the words of his phrase (probably monsieur or Belloq) was cut from the audio as Dietrich's lips still move but nothing can be heard.

Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
Visible crew/equipment: During Marion and Belloq's beverage contest, a round klieg lamp's blue light stands behind Belloq, which sometimes changes its intensity. Also, when Marion grabs the knife, behind her a moving light can be seen (like a helicopter's light), which disappears a few seconds later. This light also appears for a few seconds when Toht frees Marion's arm.

Chosen answer: The Indiana Jones wiki: To film the arrival of the German submarine at the base, the visual effects artists at Industrial Light and Magic borrowed a miniature prop from Steven Spielberg's 1979 film, 1941. The model was floated through San Francisco Bay towards one of the two Marin Islands just off the shoreline from ILM's then-headquarters in San Rafael. The real-world island was later replaced with a matte painting.
