Continuity mistake: Miyuki listens her friend explaining the origin of the expression "Blood pool" related to the game of Go. Her hand is in front of her mouth, but in a shot it's an open hand, in another it's a fist.(00:10:10)
Plot hole: The explanation of the trick for Akechi's "murder" overlooks how were they able to remotely wake Kindaichi up and make him walk in view of Miyuki and Li for the little spectacle to work.
Continuity mistake: At the beginning of the episode, the distance between the suspects and the proportions are noticeably different from the end of the previous episode, and between shots within this very episode too.
Plot hole: Kindaichi bases his solution on a fact (there was a certain object on the elevator together with the victim) he couldn't know about, since Li did not mention it (and if he did, he would have been on the right track to solve the mystery himself).
Continuity mistake: When Kindaichi shows the newspaper explaining to Kenmochi (and the audience) the mystery behind Akechi's death, he holds it in close-up with his finger between the second and third character from the right, the third and fourth in the next shot.(00:16:25)
Continuity mistake: When the police blocks the alley where Matsuoka was killed, the corpse is gone, but the first shot of Li in the alley shows the body being wheeled away in the foreground.(00:09:15)
Continuity mistake: After the flashback to the event of 18 years earlier, there's a side view of Matsuoka's face who says that they feared Jun would be still alive. The stack of papers on the desk is more towards the center of the desk than it is in the rest of the scene.(00:08:05)
Continuity mistake: When Kindaichi holds the army knife picking it up from the ground, it has two stripes of blood across the blade, just one stripe when Detective Li picks it up.
Continuity mistake: Lee's men are chasing Kindaichi that just escaped from the air conditioning vent. In one shot (the one with the camera behind the two guys) the policeman wearing the white shirt has the earpiece on the wrong ear - left ear, while he wears it on the right ear in the rest of the scene.(00:09:00)
Continuity mistake: After Akechi's stabbing, Detective Li Pai-Long puts his hand on Kindaichi's shoulder, very close to the neck in the first shot, further towards the arm in the second.(00:03:20)
Continuity mistake: Kindaichi drops the knife that falls at distance and rolls on the floor clear from obstacles, but it's at his feet in the wide shot.(00:02:50)
Continuity mistake: Inside the hotel room, the three guys from 18 years prior receive a macabre gift. The one in the grey suit opens the box, and the knuckles of the severed hand are pointed towards him. In the last shot of the table though, the hand is turned the other way around.(00:08:15)
Other mistake: During this episode and the next 4 of this story arc, the signs of the stores in Hong Kong are recycled from the first episode of the series. Hong Kong is a pretty big city, the odds of Kindaichi (who is not staying at the same hotel nor dealing with anything related to the first case) just happening to be in the same nondescript streets with the "Ocean Guest House" are astronomically low.
Plot hole: An additional plot twist of the episode has the Puppeteer from the Hell as the mastermind behind the operation. What does not make sense is the fact that he regularly visited the killer in prison showing his face fully in the open. To make it even more ludicrous, the next episode shows that he needs to constantly wear a mask because he's wanted by the police, and he is on the run. Previous episodes showed already without a doubt that the police had all his data and pictures.
Continuity mistake: When the contestant drops her ramen bowl and chopsticks, the food, the bowl and the chopsticks are in different positions throughout the rest of the scene.(00:08:00)
