Plot hole: An additional plot twist of the episode has the Puppeteer from the Hell as the mastermind behind the operation. What does not make sense is the fact that he regularly visited the killer in prison showing his face fully in the open. To make it even more ludicrous, the next episode shows that he needs to constantly wear a mask because he's wanted by the police, and he is on the run. Previous episodes showed already without a doubt that the police had all his data and pictures.

The police was alerted because the suicide happened by drowning, leaving the bathtub running till it overflew alerting the other people in the building. The body of the victim is still completely immersed in the bathtub (nobody drained it), and Kindaichi and Aoi walk on a dry floor while there should be a massive flooding.

Continuity mistake: The position of Kindaichi's phone when it falls inside the bathtub changes between shots. The tub itself also fills way too quickly - and Kindaichi is in no rush to retrieve it.

Other mistake: In this episode, we learn that Kindaichi can't swim. However, the series is a continuation of the first one from 1997: in a few instances (the Ghost Passenger Ship Murder Case, The Kidnapping of Reika Hayami Murder Case, with Reika appearing as a key character here) Kindaichi could swim just fine and in fact would bravely dive in the ocean to save someone and swim downstream in a mountain river when gravely injured, respectively.

Continuity mistake: When Miyuki says that Honosuke the owl is cute, all we see in her glass is an ice cube. Moments later, her glass is filled with orange juice, the ice cubes being well below the juice level. (00:02:15)

Audio problem: Kindaichi is listening to the recording of the phone call a couple times over; however he does not listen to it in a loop, but rather the file shows up as lasting 52 seconds, with the call being just a handful of seconds. On top of that, when he listens to it again in front of the building, the timestamps don't match.
