War of the Worlds (2025)

War of the Worlds mistake picture

Factual error: After Will logs in, the screen greets him with "Domestic Terror Analyst" under his name. This is not an actual U.S. government job title; the closest real roles would be Intelligence Analyst or Counterterrorism Analyst. In reality, a secure government system would never display the user's specific role or specialty on the login screen, as it's an OPSEC risk. Such screens usually show only the agency or system name. War of the Worlds (2025)

War of the Worlds mistake picture

Factual error: Will pulls up a map of Washington DC and surrounding areas, just before selecting cameras to tap into the feed of. With an air traffic overlay showing multiple aircraft directly over the National Mall, Capitol, and White House... all inside the city's strict no-fly zone. One or two could be on official clearance, but this many flights in restricted airspace are unrealistic. (00:00:55)

Factual error: In the air battle with the Predator vs the World War 2 planes, Torres figures out the alien is tracking their heat. When he and the other pilot climb high to cool the engines, Torres cuts off his while the other pilot keeps his on. In the Predator's perspective, as soon as Torres kills his engine, the ship disappears from his heat vision. That's not how heat works. It's not just a light switch you can turn on and off. It would take time for the plane to slowly cool off and be invisible. (00:55:15)

Prey (2022)

Factual error: Early in the movie, the Predator is standing still while cloaked as an ant crawls across its leg. A rat grabs and eats the ant, then a snake strikes the rat. The snake starts to crawl away, then suddenly senses the Predator and gets startled, rattling its tail. However, rattlesnakes are pit vipers. They see heat. So even cloaked, the snake should have already seen the Predator standing there and known. Predator cloaks do not cloak from heat vision. (00:13:30)

Meet the Spy (2009)

Factual error: RED Spy is shown grabbing hold of BLU Medic and transforming into the Medic disguise. He then attacks the Medic and kills him while retaining his disguise. However, by game mechanics and TF2 lore, this is not possible as Spy loses his disguise the moment he makes an attack. He would have reverted back to a RED Spy the moment he swung at Medic's throat.

Common mistakes

Factual error: It's common in movies and shows, and even games sometimes, to see characters effortlessly lifting manhole covers. Usually when climbing out from them or even just walking up and lifting them with bare hands. In the case of the TMNT, where they have enhanced strength, it's a little more believable. However, in real life these lids are super heavy and usually require a crane or other heavy equipment to lift.

Video

Factual error: After Lincoln is president, there is a scene of an official reading a document outside the White House. From the angle at the man's feet pointed up, the modern electrical lights in the ceiling are visible.

Factual error: Speed radar guns work by measuring the speed of an object that is either approaching or moving away from it. So when it shows Sonic running across, the beam giving the measurement wouldn't work, and he would have barely even registered on the device. (00:04:44)

Daredevil (2015)

Into the Ring - S1-E1

Factual error: At an eating area, a collector shows a man a computer screen with his daughter in real time and has her call him. She then speaks in the phone and you can see her lips and actions lining up perfectly with the words he is hearing. It would not be this perfectly in sink even in the most optimal of conditions. There is a slight delay between the video from the camera and sending that to the computer being shown. And then there is also a slight delay of the phone single traveling through one phone to the other. These would not line up right and so the father would not see the lips moving exactly with what he hears his daughter saying over the phone.

Common mistakes

Factual error: After waking up from a coma or being knocked out for several days, people in films often get up and proceed to wander around or have a conversation before moving on. But the body continues to function during this comatose state. When someone gets up after sleeping for 3 days straight, they would immediately need to head to the bathroom to relieve themselves. That, or they would smell very horribly to others around them and need to be cleaned up if they were not already taken care of when asleep by the other people.

Factual error: Sharon Tate walks past a theater sign that shows the film Pendulum is playing. This movie is set in February of 1969, but that movie did not come out in the US until March of 1969.

Common mistakes

Factual error: Almost always in movies or TV, if a person dies and falls down on their back or side and have their hands visible, their fingers will be curled in the relaxed position of someone resting. A person's fingers go to this position in a living person due to natural tension in the muscles from circulation and blood flow. However, when a person dies, all their muscles in the body will fully relax with no tension. Thus when lying down dead, their fingers should actually be flat against the ground and not curled up at all.

Toy Story 4 (2019)

Video

Factual error: In the antique shop, Woody is at a point where he's at the center of a tug-o-war between two sides, with the "bad toys" pulling on his draw string for his voice box. The voice box can still be heard spouting its lines, despite the fact that the tension on the string is never released allowing it to draw the string back in, which is what makes the sound. It can't make it's sounds with the string continually out in the pulled position.

Factual error: Towards the end, Quinn injects herself with a syringe full of Morphine to try and kill herself. She's dead in seconds. This does not act nearly that fast. Especially from injecting it in her arm.

It (1990)

Video

Factual error: The kids are leaving a movie theater that's playing I Was a Teenage Werewolf. This film was released in June of 1957. So one, they are in 1960 and this film would not still be playing. And two, they were shown still attending school, but they would not be attending school in June during summer break.

Suggested correction: Before the rise of home video, movies had much longer theatrical lives. It was not uncommon for a film like this to be shown as a Saturday matinee years after its initial release. I personally remember a local theater showing movies from the 60s well into the 70s.

The Dark (2018)

Factual error: The police officer that shows up does two stupid things in a row that real police would never do. When investigating a kidnapping, he calls in what the car was they were looking for. Which he sees. Instead of calling for back up, or even mentioning to dispatch that he found a car that looks like it, after coming from a murder scene at a gas station and following a map left behind to this spot, he approaches the car alone, without calling for back up, or drawing his weapon. Shortly thereafter, he finds the kidnapped boy inside the car, who tells him the man who took him is in the house. The officer then proceeds to go into the house alone to look for a dangerous kidnapper without waiting for backup, even mentioning to the kid that his partner is on the way. (00:32:00 - 00:33:35)

Hobbs & Shaw (2019)

Factual error: When the multiple vehicles are chained together and latched onto the helicopter, the chopper starts lifting up hard enough so that most of the vehicles are off the ground with the lead one only touching by the front wheels. The driver then hits NOS in the car to super charge the front wheels. We see them spin on the dirt road and pull the other cars down bringing the chopper down. However this defies almost every law of physics. With the cars lifted up and the weight taken off the front wheels of that vehicle, and it being on dirt with no spikes, there's no way it would have the traction to pull the chopper down at all. It would just peal out in the dirt. (01:45:40)

Factual error: After carving the swastika on the Nazi private's head that they let go, Donny tells Aldo that he's getting good at that. Aldo then proceeds to make the joke about getting to Carnegie Hall and practice. This has been a well known and common joke for years, however the earliest known written instance of this joke is from 1950. Plus the joke originates in New York and Aldo is from Tennessee, saying he's from the Smoky Mountains. So him referencing this joke in such a manner does not match the time frame at all and is way out of place.

Shazam! (2019)

Video

Factual error: Shazam catches the bus with his hands, but it lands on his hands and face by the windshield. This puts the entire weight of the bus being supported by just the front windshield held by Shazam's hands, plus the momentum of it falling from the bridge hitting him. No way the glass could support all that and not break. Especially since it already cracked from just a guy falling on it.
