Corrected entry: During the car chase Bond makes a wrong turn and ends up at the wrong side of the river. He corrects his mistake by using a collapsed bridge to jump across the river. A few shots later you see that three police cars following Bond made the same mistake. However, they arrive only a few seconds after Bond at the place where Scaramanga is changing his car into an airplane. It's very unlikely that they all jumped across the river.

Correction: The original three black-and-white police cars come to a stop after the gray '55 Chevy crashes and turns over, and the police all exit their vehicles. The police cars seen later on the wrong side of the river may or may not be the same three. But the ones that arrive at the end of the chase are definitely not the same three cars as the originals because two of these three are red-and-white. As such, there are at least 5 and as many as 9 police cars involved in the chase, only 3 of which we see at any one time.
