Continuity mistake: Captain Willard and his two escorts get out of a helicopter and walk up to the guard post on the way to see General Corman. The soldier in the front is carrying some yellow papers in his right hand. In the next shot as they pass the guard the papers are in his left hand. (00:09:40)

Continuity mistake: In General Corman's residence Captain Willard walks past the dinner table and there's an extra light green plate between his plate and the chair that's not there later when he sits down for dinner. None of them went near the table. (00:10:20 - 00:11:40)

Continuity mistake: As Dennis Hopper circles the bamboo cage saying, "I know something you don't know..." Captain Willard's earlobe has less blood on it than when Hopper began his walk and talk. (02:43:45)

Continuity mistake: As Hubert says, "They put the French army in an impossible situation where they couldn't win." Notice Roxanne and the people next to her, whom are bathed in sunlight, in the next shot the woman has no sunlight on her at all. (02:09:30)

Continuity mistake: Note the boat position as Chef starts to mouth the words to "Satisfaction", by tree line they are close to shore. After less than a two second pause in action, we see that the boat is no longer near the shore or any trees. (01:14:55)

Continuity mistake: As the shot shows Chef and his playmate Miss May through the helicopter window it's pouring rain and totally overcast outside. In the next shot from inside the copter, water is cascading down the windows but the sun is now shining. (01:28:55)

Continuity mistake: Roxanne prepares a pipe for Captain Willard and says, "It was the morphine he took for the wounds he suffered in his heart." The shadow of her left hand falls on her face as she holds the needle over the flame. In the next shot, however, the lighting has changed and the shadow is now nowhere near her face. (02:16:40)

Continuity mistake: As Dennis Hopper leads Captain Willard up the steps we see the wall with "Apocalypse Now" written in white. In the previous shot there were a lot of sand bags there, now there is just a big boulder. (02:31:35)

Continuity mistake: Dennis Hopper and Chef are looking at the heads on the ground, Chef turns to face him as Hopper says, "You were gonna call him crazy?" In the next cut Chef is looking forward at the heads again. (02:33:40)

Continuity mistake: The cigarette that Dennis Hopper hands to Captain Willard is lit and in perfect shape, however in close-up the cigarette is bent near the filter. In the next shot it is once again in perfect condition. (02:43:20)

Continuity mistake: Dennis Hopper walks to the back of the boat and says, "I'll tell you one thing. This boat is a mess man, whoo!" As he stands in the middle of the boat note the machine guns are missing, yet in the following shot they reappear with their ammo. Later, as he moves back to the front of the boat the disappear yet again. (02:30:10)

Continuity mistake: As Captain Willard holds Colonel Kurtz' paper titled, "Commitment and Counterinsurgency" in front of the camera it changes color from yellow in the first shot to white in the second. (01:15:40)

Continuity mistake: Watching the USO show, Clean and Chef start out on the right of the stage with a still photographer and press reporters, who are sitting behind a desk. Later in a rear close-up of playmate Carrie Foster we see the entire right side of the stage but there is no press desk. (01:07:25 - 01:09:00)

Continuity mistake: As Captain Willard arrives to kill him, Colonel Kurtz stands in the doorway looking at the tribal festival and it's not raining, but in the next shot of the Captain, with the festival in his background, it is now raining. Finally, in the next shot, as the Captain runs to the doorway, it is again no longer raining. (03:06:10)

Continuity mistake: As they listen to the Frenchmen on the plantation dock, Chef picks up his rifle from the side of the boat. Note this spot and the bloody footprints there, which appear and disappear between shots. (01:57:40)

Continuity mistake: The actual napalm attack burns quite a large area of the tree line and just two shots later Colonel Kilgore speaks the famous lines, "I love the smell of napalm in the morning!" At this time, when we see this area is still smoking, quite heavily, however, the amount of destruction is much less and there is very little fire visible. (00:48:55)

Continuity mistake: Just before Colonel Kilgore gets into his helicopter, he says to the trumpet player, "All right, Son, let her rip!" His left hand moves from being in front of his belt to being at his side between shots. (00:34:45)

Continuity mistake: In a close-up after he burns the picture of his wife with his cigarette, Captain Willard says to himself, "When I was there all I could think of was getting back into the jungle". Look closely at his left cheek and note a red scratch missing from previous shots and not visible in later shots during his drunken dance. (00:05:20)

Continuity mistake: When Captain Willard looks out his window at the streets of Saigon you can tell by the shadows that the sun is overhead. But in the next shot the sun is coming directly through the window and shining on his face. (00:04:20)

Continuity mistake: Captain Willard says, "Whatever was going to happen, it wasn't gonna be the way they called it back in Nha Trang". Note the light pole in the center of the boat, the second blue light from the top is shot out however there hasn't been any battles since the French plantation scene when all four blue lights were intact. (02:21:25)
