Twilight (2008)

Question: I wanted to ask that, when James had bitten Bella, then the venom/poison was left in Bella's arm and Edward had to suck it out later, but why didn't Edward leave the venom in Bella's arm? They both (James and Edward) sucked Bella's blood and James left venom, but Edward did not. How is that possible?

Answer: Edward wants Bella to remain human and experience life from the human point of view. As for them sucking her blood... James actually bit Bella, thus causing venom to enter to blood stream. Edward did not bite Bella; he simply sucked on the open wound to remove the venom from Bella's system.

Answer: A vampire's venom can change a human into a vampire, but it can also kill. It appeared that James, who hunts his victims, probably intended for Bella to die. Edward is sucking out the venom to save her life.

Twilight (2008)

Question: When Bella discovers Edward has snuck into her room and reveals he's been watching her, Bella has no pants on - just a shirt and underwear. Wouldn't Bella be upset about being seen in her underwear? She doesn't try to cover herself.

Answer: Apparently she wasn't bothered by it. One thing I find so amusing about our culture: If a woman is wearing a bikini at the beach, no-one thinks anything of it. But a bit of underwear showing raises eyebrows.

raywest

As a woman, one slight difference is that I would intend for people to see me in a bikini. Underwear can be more "ugly." I wouldn't want most people to see me in an old bra with polka-dot panties that don't match. But I understand your point - it's still sort of funny.

Twilight (2008)

Question: In the beginning of the movie, when the Cullens walk into the school, it's sunny outside, but they don't sparkle. Why is that?

bk123456

Chosen answer: In order to sparkle, the vampires need to be in direct sunlight.

Answer: In addition to the other answer, it should be noted that Forks, Washington is one of the rainiest and most overcast areas in the continental US. The Cullens moved there to avoid being in sunlight.

Twilight (2008)

Question: If vampires don't have a sense of smell, then how do they smell blood and how to they know Bella has a floral scent?

Answer: In the "Twilight" series, all the vampires had a supernatural sense of smell, along with superior eyesight, hearing, and taste (for blood). They use smell to hunt prey. General vampire lore varies about what characteristics they possess. Contemporary authors have always adapted or modified these traits to suit their stories.

Question: In the car with Edward driving, Bella tries to turn off the heater saying "Okay, I think I'm warm enough now." and she reaches to the heater, but Edward blocks her hand. Why is that? Do vampires like heat because their skin is so cold? I thought they rather liked it cold.

Bunch Son

Chosen answer: Edward wasn't blocking her hand. He, being a gentleman, was merely reaching over to turn the heater off at the same time as Bella and their hands bumped. It's really just a plot device to act as a clue to Bella that Edward is somehow different. She later works out that he is a vampire and his icy cold skin is just one trait.

Twilight (2008)

Question: Why can't Edward hear Victoria's thoughts when she is at prom? Why is Victoria able to leave without any of the vampires knowing she was there?

Answer: Edward doesn't hear everyone's thoughts at once. He focuses in on nearby individuals. He was preoccupied with Bella, and wasn't aware that Victoria was there while she kept her distance from everyone.

Twilight (2008)

Answer: The same as anyone else. The Cullens live like normal humans. They have fake birth certificates, social security numbers, passports, and all other necessary I.D. All of the younger Cullens attend high school (again and again) like any other teenager. Carlisle Cullen is a doctor, and therefore would have fake medical credentials. Carlisle is immensely wealthy, having accumulated a fortune over the centuries. He has the means to provide whatever they need to maintain their human identities. That would allow Edward, and any of the others, to apply for a driver's license.

Answer: He said "I'll make it go away, Bella" Meaning he will make the venom and pain go away.

Answer: From what I can make out, he says, "I'll make you go away, Bella. I'll make you go away." He wants her to leave him so she can live her life as a human and be safe from other vampires.

Twilight (2008)

Question: How come the vampires don't die during the day and are awake? How can the werewolves transform at will instead of by a full moon?

Rob245

Answer: Because they are fictional characters, and Stephanie Meyer made up new rules for them to suit her narrative.

She should've still respected the lore as most do. This series is her as Bella and the two guys are based on guys she lusted for in high school who ignored her. Read between the lines people.

Rob245

Traditional folklore about vampires does not mention sunlight being harmful to vampires. This is a more modern characteristic.

raywest

Answer: The moon has no effect on the Quileutes because they are not werewolves. In the books, they are shape-shifters that can change at will. Rather than being created by a werewolf's bite, some Quileutes are born with a gene that becomes active and transforms them into wolves when vampires are near. They cannot turn other people into wolves. The movie series glossed over this fact, apparently to avoid confusion about the differences. Even though they are called "werewolves" in the movies, that is not what they are.

raywest

In addition, actual werewolves do exist in the Twilight universe. They are called "Children of the Moon." They follow most of the standard werewolf myths: changing only during the night of a full moon, feral behavior, infecting others by biting them, etc... They are also immune to vampire venom. The Volturi hunted them nearly to extinction after one nearly killed Caius.

LorgSkyegon

Answer: It seems like you already decided your own answer, but like a lot of mythology and lore, hundreds of variations occur. Most often werewolves can change at will once they've gone through their first transformation. In a lot of lore, the full moon only forces them to change, even if it's against their will. It does not mean it's the only way to change. Meyer did add a twist to vampires in the sun, but in many stories, sunlight is not fatal, they can be safe in the shadows, or the sunlight only weakens, not kills, them, and/or they are strengthened by the moonlight (which is why they came out at night).

Bishop73

Didn't decide, only observed what I'd seen with the like of Chaney's Wolfman and Lugosi's Dracula, that's all.

Rob245

The horror movies of that era, like Dracula, Frankenstein, The Wolfman, etc. freely adapted their own interpretation of traditional folklore.

Twilight (2008)

Question: When they are in the garage, before they split up to throw off James, Edward tells Alice to "Please keep your thoughts to yourself". I've read the book and I'm pretty sure it explains this but I can't remember. What is Alice thinking?

Answer: Alice can see the future (She can not read minds, thoughts and intentions). She has foreseen that Bella will become a vampire and Edward does not want her to tell Bella that.

Jazaray

Answer: If Alice tells Bella that she will be a vampire she will be scared and shocked.

Bella wouldn't be shocked or scared by knowing that. Bella wants to become a vampire. Edward does not wish this for her, believing it is a cursed life. If Alice tells Bella that she foresees her becoming a vampire, Edward knows this will only encourage Bella to pressure him to change her.

raywest

Answer: I thought Alice was thinking about how tasty Bella smells because they had to wear her belongings to confuse Victoria and lead her off Bella's actual scent. If not please do reply as I am curious about this.

Twilight (2008)

Question: Jacob imprinted on Renesmee which technically means they'll fall in love etc., but Renesmee is a vampire which means she's immortal, and Jacob is a shapeshifter so that means that he will age and at some point die, right? So if I am correct that means that Jacob will one day die and Renesmee will spend the rest of her life without her soulmate?

Answer: Not true. Renesmee is half-vampire. She is like the Tecuna half-breed that Alice and Jasper brought back from South America to prove to the Volturi that Renesmee was not an immortal child, who will never develop beyond childhood. She will grow to full-adulthood and be long-lived, but not immortal. She can eat human food or live on blood. She also needs to sleep like a human, which vampires do not do. As a shape-shifter, Jacob will also be long-lived, so in the future, both will die. Just when is unknown.

Question: Why does Edward bite Victoria, when he ends her? He obviously doesn't like it, couldn't he just rip her head off?

Answer: Probably because he was in a rage fighting for his life and protecting Bella. It also makes for a more dramatic scene.

Twilight (2008)

Question: How come in Twilight James' venom makes Bella scream and writhe in pain but in the last films she doesn't react to Edwards venom at all. I know they said in Breaking Dawn Part 2 it was because she has the shield ability, but wouldn't is also work the same with James' bite in the first film?

Shayleighxo

Answer: This is better explained in the books. Unlike the rest of the Cullens, Bella's transformation was planned in advance, so she was expecting the pain. When James bit her, she had no idea that the venom would burn like it did and that was her natural reaction. Also in the books, the morphine that Carlisle gave Bella during the transformation more or less made her unable to scream or even move. As the morphine wore off, she knew she would be able to move, but managed to stay completely still even though she was in intense pain. The reason she managed not to make a sound was out of love for Edward, because she was worried her screams would torment him and make him regret ever changing her.

Answer: A couple of reasons. When Edward first started biting Bella to inject his venom, she was all but clinically dead. Later, while she's transforming into a vampire, Carlisle tells Edward that she's not in any pain because he is treating her with morphine.

Question: After Edward saves Bella from a car crash, she sees him, Carlisle, and Rosalie talking in the hospital. What were they saying? I heard some of the words but not all.

aliadms

Chosen answer: Basically, Rosalie is complaining that Edward having saved Bella by stopping the truck with his hand has risked him exposing their family as vampires. Edward responds saying what else could he have done and should he have just stood by and let Bella die. Rosalie thinks he should have if it protected the family. Carlisle then says they need to move the conversation to his office when he notices Bella watching them.

Twilight (2008)

Question: James lures Bella to the ballet studio with the threat that her mother will be harmed. She hears her mother's scared voice and I'd assume that Bella would be able to tell if it was Victoria and not her mother on the phone. Yet when she wakes up to her mother at the hospital, it's like this never happened. Can anyone tell me what I missed here?

Answer: When James was in Bella's house in Arizona, he had found an old video recording that Bella's mother had made of a very young Bella at the ballet studio. While filming it, Rene' couldn't find Bella, and was frantically calling for her. That was the portion of the tape that James played when he was on the phone with Bella, fooling her that her mother was James' captive. Bella discovered the deception when she arrived at the ballet studio and discovered that her mother was never there or in any danger. When Bella awakens in the hospital, there was no need for any explanation of what happened because her mother believed that Bella had fallen down a hotel staircase.

raywest

Answer: The mother was never on the phone with Bella; it was a recording of an old message that James used to lure Bella to the dance studio Mimi's.

Tricia Webster

Answer: I guess you missed the video recorder! When she thinks she's found her mom at the studio all she finds is a video recorder playing a video of when Bella was a child! He was never near her mother.

Answer: The mother was given a set of memories by the cullens, so that all this was explainable. The cullens could not let the mother know that vampire's existed. I assume that Bella was given similar memories so that she can keep up with the lie, Bella of course remember what had really happened.

Twilight (2008)

Question: If Alice can see the future and Edward can read/see thoughts, does that mean when Edward reads Alice's thoughts he can see the future too?

Answer: That is basically true, but Edward knows that Alice's visions are subjective. If someone changes their mind or takes a new course of action, then the vision changes. If Edward is not around Alice when she sees a different vision, he would not know it has changed.

Twilight (2008)

Answer: It's because vampires are physically so much stronger than humans that any touch or action can inflict severe injury or even death. This physical characteristic was somewhat toned down in the movies, but in the books, even a simple hug or kiss from Edward could have harmed Bella.

Question: Near the end of the movie, at the prom, when Bella and Edward first walk in, Bella spots Jessica and signals something to her with her hand going across her chest. What was Bella signalling to Jessica?

Molly

Chosen answer: Earlier, when the girls were shopping for prom dresses in Port Angeles, Jessica commented that the low-cut dress she was trying on made her boobs "look good." She is wearing that same dress at the prom, and Bella is gesturing and then giving a "thumbs up" that Jessica's cleavage does look good. Jessica mouths back, "I know."

Question: When Bella was in her room talking with Edward saying like he wanted to try something, when the kissing got intense someone yelled "stop." Was it Edward or Bella?

Twilight (2008)

Question: I never read the book, but have been bothered as to why no one pressed Bella for more answers after "Twilight" because it's obvious in following movies that the scar on her hand is a bite and not some 'fall through a glass window' which was used as an excuse for the rest of her injuries. Can anyone help me?

Answer: There is no exact answer to this. It is one of many glossed over plot details that make no real sense. We are supposed to believe that everyone accepted that the scar was created by her supposedly falling down a flight of stairs and through a window.
