Dragonheart (1996)

Other mistake: At the beginning when the king (Einon's father) grabs a torch and sets fire to the villagers' home, he only touches the corners of the roof. Yet seconds later, a fire suddenly begins inside the house...for no reason.

Don't Say A Word (2001)

Corrected entry: Since the bad guys know that the girl's father was to be buried as a John Doe, and since they read in the paper that she was found wandering on Hart's Island a couple of days after his death, they had to know that the doll was somewhere on the island - isn't that why they were looking for the 6-digit number? So why didn't they use their technical expertise to find out which graves were dug during that timeframe? Seems easier than the killing, kidnapping, camera & mikes, etc.

Correction: You can see them getting arrested right after the murder of the girl's father. I think it's quite hard to find the exact grave which was dug 10 years ago despite of the "technical expertise" they might be using. Furthermore - 6-digit number, hey, we are talking up to 999,999 graves here...

Correction: Myself I have to wonder why they were so certain the doll/ruby was in the grave (she could just as easily have laid it on top, or dropped it, or thrown it away).

Don't Say A Word (2001)

Plot hole: How is it that the main character was able to follow her father's dead body to the coroner's office to see him put into a specific casket? She was a nine year old girl...no one noticed a little girl hanging around a morgue?

Blade (1998)

Corrected entry: Blade's mother's driver's license falls on the floor of the hospital, but somehow Blade has it, as evident when Karen finds it being injected with the garlic, waking up, and there's no blood on it anymore.

Joey221995

Correction: But since then decades have passed. Somehow Whistler or Blade got it, it would make sense they'd clean it off.

Blade (1998)

Corrected entry: Silver has a melting point of 962° celsius - some alloys melt a little lower, but in any case these kind of temperatures are not obtained using a small open top thin walled bench-top melting pot. Blade uses regular equipment for normal lead projectiles (melting point of 327.5° celsius), which would not work with silver.

Joey221995

Correction: Blade also has an incredibly clever foster father who could've either made a bullet furnace that does operate at that temperature or else make a silver alloy that melts that low while still killing vampires.

dizzyd

Corrected entry: During the main scam of the movie, Steve Martin poses as a wheelchair bound Naval Officer. The only problem is that he wears an Army dress blue infantry uniform with the rank of Corporal. Clearly neither naval nor an officer.

Correction: The people he's trying to con don't know this.

But the two sailors who volunteer to get rid of Laurence probably do it because they supposedly identify Freddy as a fellow sailor. I still think the army uniform was a mistake.

Correction: First, this is in Europe, therefore Americans, and the uniforms of their troops, are not likely to be well known by all the civilians, Second, it is established early on "Freddy, you are a moron." Third, well in a rare moment of foresight, Freddy could be planning against getting charged with impersonation of an officer, by technically dressing as a common soldier (lesser penalty), though in typical Freddy fashion, that probably wouldn't work.

Corrected entry: During the chase after the stock exchange attack, Batman ends up flying the batwing out from an alleyway after being chased there by police. But it can't fly itself (part of the plot) and the attack took place during the day, meaning that even if Batman somehow planned for this, he must have just stuck the batwing in an alley for a fairly long period of time and somehow no-one stumbled across it, despite being in a busy part of the city.

Correction: We never see what sort of measures he uses to hide it until then, say a breakaway shed and "Authorized Personnel Only" signs.

Contact (1997)

Factual error: The last time Eleanor Arroway talks to S.R. Haddon, he's aboard the Russian space station Mir, and Haddon explains that he's up there because the "low oxygen" and zero gravity counteracts his cancer. In fact, there is no "low oxygen" environment aboard space stations or other spacecraft. Low oxygen content would, of course, kill any astronauts or cosmonauts in short order. The breathable air in spacecraft always has at least the same oxygen content as Earth atmosphere at sea-level. In fact, most Russian missions used excessive amounts of oxygen. S.R. Haddon's original dialogue was probably "high oxygen and low gravity," but the line was bungled and allowed to remain in the film.

Suggested correction: Also, being terminally ill, he is grasping at straws, and can't be expected to think solidly. After all, gravity wouldn't mean all that much to cancer cells in the human body, and special oxygen conditions of any kind can be generated on Earth (there is a weak possibility that low but sufficient for a human oxygen levels would slow cancer cells, which are often less efficient, more vulnerable in certain areas than healthy cells), so no need to go up, and finally, he may simply be Dennis Tito-ing and making an excuse to do so.

Collateral (2004)

Corrected entry: Vincent cuts the power to the building, thus alerting Jada Pinkett Smith. He did not know she was being warned on the phone and lost all his element of surprise. He could have just sneaked up on her without having to kill the electricity.

Correction: So what? Then that was a questionable choice made by Vincent, not an error in the movie.

Correction: She also wouldn't necessarily think the blackout was a grave danger caused by an attacker, just an inconvenience from the building, she might stay put 'til the lights come back, not wanting to trip on things, That might be Vincent's plan.

Collateral mistake picture

Revealing mistake: In the train scene if you look closely at Vincent's ear as he steps off the train ready to shoot Max and Annie, it looks like he has an earpiece or some kind of small blood pack in his ear. (01:44:05)

The-Immortal

Suggested correction: He could, in fact have an earpiece/hearing aid in place, and what with the wild night he's been having, the accident and all, a blood pack is not out of place either.

dizzyd

It's visible that just a little amount of blood dried up in the ear. Not any earpiece or blood pack.

Corrected entry: Early in the film when the children are walking the streets of England, in the background is a structure that resembles likes of the Seattle Space Needle. Being this portion of the film was suppose to be around the time of World War II, it seemed a little odd to have such a futuristic structure in the background.

Correction: This is an opinion, not a mistake. Futuristic looking buildings have always been built - the Space Needle itself looked pretty futuristic when it was built in 1962. Something being "a little odd" doesn't mean it's an error. If you can identify the building and determine the year it was built in as being post-war, then, fine, that's a valid error. As you haven't, it remains purely an opinion.

Tailkinker

Correction: Since it's around WWII it could be a radio aerial, radar mast, or some other function related to the war.

dizzyd

Corrected entry: If the Beast was once a prince with a huge castle, wouldn't he have governed people? Why didn't anyone remember that, or know where his castle was?

Correction: Maurice had to travel for a while before he found the castle, so it's possible that the people in his and Belle's town would never have heard about the prince/Beast.

Krista

Correction: I'd say Beast became a Hermit ruler, ie news of the realm and supplies are left in sealed chests at the front gate, royal decrees in writing with his sign and seal are left outside in same. Peculiar, but not without precedent, or that big a stretch. Furthermore, the Pre-Curse Prince was such a jerk that no-one else is really in the mood to investigate further about the change.

Plot hole: When Fogg convinces the cargo ship captain to take him to Shanghai, he pays for the passage of himself and two of his colleagues. One of these colleagues is Aouda, but as Passpartout is not there, the other one must be Fix. Why, then, does Fix have to pay for his own passage? If you notice, Fogg seems surprised to see Fix on board.

Upvote valid corrections to help move entries into the corrections section.

Suggested correction: At no point do they travel to Shanghai. They travel from India to Hong Kong to Yokohama. There is no scene where he negotiates with the cargo ship Captain. And he is definitely not surprised to see Fix. Are you sure you were watching the 1956 version?

Suggested correction: Just in case Passpartout does show up at the last minute? Also, knowing Phineas Fogg, he has probably already hired Passpartout's replacement and it is for him.

Animal House (1978)

Factual error: Bluto crushes a beer can against his forehead. Steel cans are too strong to crush like that. Aluminium cans weren't introduced until approximately 1965, although the movie was set in 1962. http://www.cancentral.com/brochure/historyTimeline_f.htm. (00:07:55 - 01:20:20)

American Pie 2 (2001)

Other mistake: Stifler, Finch, Oz and Jim all have radios. Stifler says during the lesbian scene that they are getting naked. This should have been heard on Jim's radio (he is under the bed), but it is not. We never see Jim turn his radio off as his hands are in shot. (00:43:20)

Ssiscool

Upvote valid corrections to help move entries into the corrections section.

Suggested correction: It's a bit of a stretch, but maybe Jim had the wherewithal to turn it off (on or offscreen) simply as his radio is most likely to be overheard by the girls themselves, as he Is under their bed (or it malfunctioned somehow, was damaged in the course of all that scrambling about).

About a Boy (2002)

Corrected entry: The flier for the SPAT meeting says it's on Friday at 2pm. You'd think if they wanted as many single parents as possible to attend (people who would almost invariably have to work, or at least be looking for work) they'd make the meeting in the evening, or on the weekend.

Krista

Correction: Single parents often work odd hours, at jobs with irregular shifts. Would need more info to state Hard-And-Fast as a Rule.

dizzyd

Corrected entry: If the mission is to capture and use xenomorphs, why on Earth aren't the areas of the ship meant for them acid-proof?

dizzyd

Correction: Perhaps there is no material strong enough to resist the acid. It's extremely volatile. Also, the station isn't built for the containment of xenomorphs, and since it is a secret operation they couldn't get any materials without drawing suspicion.

lionhead

Yep, not even the Predators have armor that can stand the xenomorps' acid, and they have been technologically advanced for thousands of years.

lionhead

Even 400 years in the future!? My entire point is that why aren't they better prepared for confining the xenomorphs?! By any means and at all levels?! Weyland Yutoni is powerful enough to get what they need secrectly.

dizzyd

It may well be 400 years in the future, but that doesn't mean they have developed a very specific material to resist the acidic effects of the alien blood.

Plot hole: When the warden comes into the cell the morning after the escape, the poster covering the hole is fastened down on all four corners - impossible to do after squeezing into that small hole. [On the DVD commentary, the director confirms that this was a movie "cheat".] (01:49:05)

Upvote valid corrections to help move entries into the corrections section.

Suggested correction: It's a shame the director surrendered, but for someone as smart as Andy, this is the smallest of problems. He could've put weights on the bottom of the poster, or used magnets he embedded in the walls together with iron glued to the poster, or enough washers in the bottom to essentially do both.

dizzyd

That's a load of rubbish. Embedding magnets in the wall? Really.

Ssiscool

If he can make a six foot escape tunnel, he can scrape out several small holes around the poster's edge, and insert the aforementioned magnets, glued in however he can manage (ie tape, chewing gum).

dizzyd

He could have simply used glue mixed with dirt to weigh it down. Once the glue dried it wouldn't matter how heavy the poster was, so long as there was contact.

How could Andy do that after he escaped through the hole in the wall?

satishsasikumar

I don't think it's what happened, but easily enough. Put magnets in the wall during his tunnel digging process - he had years - then something magnetic affixed to the corners of the poster. As soon as he was in the hole the poster would hang down and affix itself to the bottom corners.

Further, if the poster weren't "glued" on the bottom, it would not have been taught enough for the warden's pebble to go through it. If the poster were attached loosely, the pebble would have simply bounced off.
