Corrected entry: Jack Ryan would not have been rewarded a knighthood as a US citizen.
Corrected entry: In the scene where Harrison Ford is attacked outside the gates of the Naval Academy, he uses his keys to unlock the door to his station wagon, gets in, attempts a cell phone call, then starts his car and drives away. As he pulls away from the curb, you can see the passenger window is rolled down (probably in order to complete the previous interior shot of him in the car). Why would the car be locked with the passenger window rolled down?
Correction: Because he didn't notice the passenger window was open when he got out of the car. It happens all the time.
Corrected entry: There is no way a highly dangerous prisoner like this would be in a convoy waiting for a bridge to be raised. All routes would be cleared for the convoy to pass and there would be armed response at several checkpoints along the route. Whatever was passing that bridge would be told to wait and like it. (01:00:28)
Correction: This is both correct and wrong. The correct part is that an IRA prisoner would not be transported as shown in the movie. The route clearance part is wrong. They would be transferred by helicopter. And there is equally no way on Earth that the guards escorting him would be unarmed.
Corrected entry: During the trial, when Sean Miller bends over the stand to confront Jack, the guard restrains only one of his arms. Nevertheless, Sean still keeps his free arm behind his back, as though waiting for the second guard to take his cue to restrain him.
Correction: That's because he's not struggling. He knows they're going to restrain him, he's simply trying to get a word in before they do. He's offering both arms for restraint before the guard even touches him.
Corrected entry: When the people arranging Lord Holmes' itinerary for his trip to the US called the Ryans, they refer to John as "Sir" when Kathy answers the phone. This is an incorrect usage of his honorary title, since John is not a British citizen and therefore is not permitted to be referred to as "Sir". The only reference that can be made to his honorary title is the use of the acronym of his title at the end of his name.
Correction: Not quite as clear in the movie as it was in the book - for legal reasons, Ryan's title was honorary. However, as far as the British were concerned, his title was real.
Corrected entry: In the scene at CIA, Jack Ryan describes Jimmy O'Reardon's murder as a 'Double-tap to the head. Very professional.' At the beginning of the film, Jummy is shot by the red-headed woman with a SINGLE shot to the head.
Correction: Listen closely she does fire two shots the other one is just fired off screen.
Corrected entry: When the daughter (Thora Birch) is outside the New England house she is playing on a gameboy with all the sound effects, but there is no game cartridge in it...
Correction: There is a game cartridge in the game boy. It can easily be seen at time 34.50 or so. The cartridge is a dark grey, compared to the the light grey of the game boy.
Correction: Non-British citizens can receive an honorary knighthood. They can't use "Sir" or "Dame" before their name, but they can put "KBE" after. Examples include Bill Gates, Bono, and Steven Spielberg.
