The Hunger Games

Continuity mistake: When Clove, the knife-wielding girl from District 2, attacks Katniss, the sun's position changes in every shot. (01:52:00)

Continuity mistake: When Katniss finds Peeta with the nightlock in his hands she gets angry with him for scaring her and hugs him. In the close up shot, Peeta has both his hands around her back with his right hand above his left. He says, "I'm sorry" (twice) and the next shot shows his left hand above the right. (01:54:50)

Continuity mistake: Katniss pulls Peeta up onto the top of the cornucopia and you see him, albeit briefly, kneeling on the top. Camera cuts and he is now back to hanging from the cornucopia, being attacked by the dogs again. (01:58:40)

Continuity mistake: At the end we see Cato with 2 hands Katniss' neck trying to choke her on the edge of the Cornucopia. Camera cuts and now he has one hand on the edge of the Cornucopia. (01:59:00)

Other mistake: When Katniss, Peeta, and Cato are on top of the Cornucopia (after being chased by the muttations), near the end of the film, Katniss aims an arrow at Cato while having Peeta in a headlock. Katniss has her arrow fletchings on backwards. This would prevent her from shooting straight. (02:00:25)

Continuity mistake: When Katniss, Peeta and Cato are on top of the Cornucopia, the blood stains on Cato's hand keep disappearing and reappearing when the camera switches between Cato and Katniss. (02:00:30)

Continuity mistake: When the announcer gives the second notice that there can only be one victor, Katniss is looking at Peeta. Camera cuts and she's looking the other way. (02:01:00)

Continuity mistake: In the cornucopia bloodbath, the District 3 girl can be seen lying dead next to Cato when he picks up the water container, yet only moments later you see her in the distance of one shot being killed by a boy tribute (being slashed to the neck).

Continuity mistake: During the scene when Katniss is looking for Peeta, Katniss wades across the river. When she steps out she is wet up to her thighs. When the camera changes directions, and she sees the blood, her bottom half is dry, even though she was just in water.

Visible crew/equipment: After Katniss has destroyed the stockpile at Cornucopia, she runs back into the forest and stops to whistle to the mockingjay and signal Rue. In the wide shot you can very see a blue marker for where she needed to stop.

Other mistake: When Katniss retrieves the bow and arrows from Glimmer, there are six arrows in the quiver. She probably recovered the two arrows that Glimmer and Cato shot at her in the tree, bringing the total to eight. Katniss did not recover the two arrows she used to blow up the Careers' supplies, bringing her total down to six. She probably recovered the arrow used to kill Marvel, but did not recover the two arrows she shot at Clove, bringing her total to five. She did not recover the arrow used to kill the muttation, nor did she recover the two arrows used on Cato, meaning that at the end of the Games, she should only have had two arrows remaining. However, at the end, she still had about half a dozen arrows remaining.

Other mistake: We are told that there are a boy and a girl tribute from each of the 12 districts, making a total of 24 tributes. However, in the scene when Katniss is figuring out the Cornucopia stockpile is mined, the camera sweeps round dug-up earth next to all of the launch pedestals - yet only 20 pedestals can be counted. This can also be seen from an aerial shot in the same scene.

Continuity mistake: When Katniss is saying goodbye to Gale, just before she is taken away for the games, there is a small curl of hair hanging down the left side of her neck that can be seen in all the shots when the camera is behind her. Whenever the camera angle changes to a face shot, the curl of hair disappears.

Revealing mistake: When Katniss is running from the fire bombs, when she lunges forward, you can see her stunt double's face.

Character mistake: In the first movie, Haymitch is their mentor. When they are eating dinner in the capital, Peeta says his mother said district 12 may finally have a winner, and she was talking about Katniss. What does he mean by "finally have a winner?" Haymitch had already won the games for district 12 in the past. So Katniss or Peeta winning wouldn't be the first for district 12.

Continuity mistake: In the evaluation scene where Katniss shows off her bow and arrow skills, there are 4 arrows total. However, when she leaves, all 4 are gone, and she only shot 3.

Suggested correction: When she comes in, there are 5 arrows. She shoots 3 and when she walks away, you see 2 arrows left.

Factual error: At one point in the film, Katniss passes out after being stung by wasps numerous times. When she asks how long it had been upon awakening, Rue answers, "A couple of days." If she had been out that long, and as a result been unable to drink, she would be in very bad condition, not to mention the fact that she would immediately need to use the bathroom.

Suggested correction: You can help an unconscious person stay hydrated by gently pouring small amounts of water into their mouth. They'll swallow it by reflex.

Continuity mistake: As well as being an audio problem, the cannon sound representing the death of a tribute is not consistent. It goes off shortly after the bloodbath scene and the scene in which Peeta kills a girl. It doesn't go off for any other deaths though, such as when Rue dies.

Suggested correction: Everytime the cannon is heard is when a tribute dies. And is often heard when a tribute not nearby is killed.

Peeta Mellark: I just keep wishing I could think of a way to show them that they don't own me. If I'm gonna die, I wanna still be me.
Katniss Everdeen: I just can't afford to think like that.

Trivia: Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark are the only Hunger Game tributes ever referred to by their first and last names. The other tributes are just identified by their first names, even when they're being introduced by Caesar Flickerman during the televised interviews or their scores are being announced on television.

Question: When Katniss is attacked by Clove after she takes the bag, why didn't she grab the knife she had (the one she cut the tracker-jacker nest's branch with) and use that instead of trying to fight her bare-handed?

Gavin Jackson

Chosen answer: In the book, she left it with Peeta in case he was discovered while she was away. Apparently she was meant to have done this in the film as well, they just neglected to show it, causing some confusion.

Phixius

Answer: She shows little to no competence with a knife. Katniss' ideal weapon is a bow, and she would not learn much on how to use a knife in the training time, especially as we have seen her do various other things in training. Though she could be able to cut off a still branch that in and of itself can't fight back, here she is dealing with a moving, killing opponent. She just might not know how to fight with a knife, or not be confident enough to do so.
