The Hunger Games

Continuity mistake: In the scene where Katniss uses the remote to change the scene in her bedroom window in the Capitol, her hair starts out stringy (having just been taken out of the braids she wore in the opening ceremony) and changes to full and beautiful and switches positions around her face and shoulders as the scene progresses. Continuity mistake: When Katniss is looking at the forest on the TV screen her hair covers her one eye or it doesn't, depending on the camera angle. (00:35:20)

Other mistake: When we see the girl from 5 matching symbols, pay close attention when we see her hands. The squares selected are not pairs. But it accepted as a pair. (00:36:40)

Continuity mistake: You need to watch carefully for this mistake as it's over in the blink of eye. When in the training at the start we see the boy from District 8 fall off the monkey bars and hurt his leg. In the far shot that shows him falling we see him roll onto his back and grasp his shin just below the knee. Camera changes to him on his side and he rolls onto his back and grasps his leg again, but this time he grasps it a lot lower down the leg. (00:36:40)

Continuity mistake: In the scene where Peeta is throwing the huge metal ball, you all know that Cato, Marvel and Glimmer are watching. In the 2 last shots where the 3 of the are shown, Cato's stance is shifted. The first shot is zoomed out where you can also see the metal ball, in this shot Cato is standing with his arms hanging and slightly rotated to his right side. You can see him move to the left side, but in the shot directly after he is standing rotated to his left with his arms crossed. (00:40:05)

Audio problem: When Katniss offers to show off her flames, Caesar laughs and asks "what do you think folks?" however, his mouth, (which is facing away but his jaw is visible), doesn't move. (00:53:00)

Continuity mistake: When Caesar Flickerman is interviewing Katniss on TV, a chunk of her up-swept hairdo keeps changing, hanging down next to her left cheek in one shot, then it disappears in a close-up, then it's hanging down again. (00:56:15)

Continuity mistake: In the scene where Katniss is being interviewed by Caesar on stage before the games, her hair is securely up kept in the back. As she is twirling to show off the flames, you notice her hair has come undone a bit and is drooping in the back. By the end of her twirling, her hair has returned to its previous secure up-do. By the end of the interview, her hair is sagging once again in the back. Then, returning backstage with Haymitch and Effie, her hair has returned to being secure and neat. (00:56:20)

Other mistake: The video stream displayed in the night sky showing which tributes have died after the first day does not add up correctly. They display in district order. We see the start, the girl from three (so the boy is still alive), and the boy from four with no breaks. Then they break away to show Katniss and the control room, after which they continuously show the boy and girl from seven, the boy from eight (so the girl is still alive), the girl from nine (so the boy is still alive), and then fade to the end. We know that Foxface, the girl from five, dies later in the movie. Even if we assume that during the portion not shown, the girl from four, the boy from five, and both tributes from six are dead, that's only a total of ten. Thirteen are supposed to be dead at that point in the movie. (01:16:20)

Continuity mistake: When Katniss dives into the water to escape the fire, a pocket of air forms in her coat and can be seen, as it should, on the surface of the water. Camera cuts and the air pocket has completely disappeared. There is no time for it disappear naturally and Katniss doesn't remove it. (01:16:20)

Continuity mistake: The tracker jacker nest Katniss is trying to release by sawing off the branch it hangs from, is alternately shown resting on another branch, then hanging freely. (01:23:25)

Audio problem: When Katniss kills Marvel with her bow and arrow when she's with Rue, the cannon (which goes off when a tribute dies) doesn't fire. This happens a couple of other times in the movie too. (01:25:25)

Suggested correction: This isn't a mistake. First the cannons never went off immediately as evidence by the fact that after the initial battle when tributes were killed, they don't go off until Katniss got away. Then 6 went off in a row. The people in charge of the games decide when they go off. Plus, after Rue is killed, the audio cuts from all sounds of the arena for dramatic effect. The cannons could have gone off then. Or they could have gone off during the District 11 riot.

Continuity mistake: When Katniss and Rue are chewing on some bones just after the tracker jacker scene, Rue removes a bone from her mouth. Camera cuts and she removes the bone again. (01:27:40)

Continuity mistake: When Katniss pulls back on her bow to take her first shot at the apples, she has a strand of hair hanging neatly by her eye. Camera cuts and this strand is now spread out and untidy. (01:32:30)

Character mistake: When Katniss is trying to destroy the supply pile, we see a close up of her drawing back on the her bow. We see she has the arrow to the left of the grip, meaning the fletchings (feathers at the end by the string) have to be facing to the left. Otherwise the fletchings will hit the grip, rip off, and make the arrow unstable in flight and go completely off course. However, the fletchings are are facing to the right and so will hit the grip. Any archer or anyone who is skilled with a bow would know this. (01:32:45)

Revealing mistake: When Katniss is blown back from the explosion, her stunt person is visible. This can be proven because the stuntperson's skin tone is different and her hair is not in a braid. It is in a ponytail. Wires can also be seen pulling her to give the illusion that she was blown back from the explosion. (01:33:00)

KittyPowa101

Revealing mistake: Katniss shoots and kills someone who throws a spear at Rue. When Rue says "you have to win" we see a shot of the dead bloke with the arrow sticking out of him. In this shot, if you look carefully you can see a square outline under his shirt that the arrow is stuck in. (01:36:20)

Continuity mistake: When Katniss is retrieving the second parachute (the one with the soup), the piece of paper with Haymitch's message changes between shots (the corners are / aren't torn) and they way Katniss is holding it also changes (from below / from the side). (01:45:10)

Continuity mistake: Just after Katniss and Peeta use the healing cream, the wound on Katniss' forehead goes from healed/dry to fresh and then healed/dry again. (01:52:00)

Trivia: Isabelle Fuhrman, who plays Clove, originally auditioned for the role of Katniss, but was told she was too young for the part. When she was later called back for the role of Clove and succeeded, they had to make Clove incredibly skilled with knives to make her seem just as intimidating as Cato, Glimmer and Marvel.

Question: When Katniss is attacked by Clove after she takes the bag, why didn't she grab the knife she had (the one she cut the tracker-jacker nest's branch with) and use that instead of trying to fight her bare-handed?

Gavin Jackson

Chosen answer: In the book, she left it with Peeta in case he was discovered while she was away. Apparently she was meant to have done this in the film as well, they just neglected to show it, causing some confusion.

Phixius

Answer: She shows little to no competence with a knife. Katniss' ideal weapon is a bow, and she would not learn much on how to use a knife in the training time, especially as we have seen her do various other things in training. Though she could be able to cut off a still branch that in and of itself can't fight back, here she is dealing with a moving, killing opponent. She just might not know how to fight with a knife, or not be confident enough to do so.
