A Nightmare on Elm Street

Factual error: The moment Nancy's digital watch hits zero, her bedside clock rings waking her up. You cannot set an old, mechanical style alarm clock to go off with anything like that level of accuracy. (00:32:00 - 00:33:18)

Continuity mistake: After Nancy gets out the bath, the big mirror goes from having slight condensation on it, to being covered in condensation between shots. (00:32:40)

Hamster

Continuity mistake: When Nancy gets out the bath, and after her mother leaves, she locks the door then leans back on the sink. Between a wideshot and following closeup, as she leans back, the way her towel and bathrobe are positioned (around her neck) changes. Revealing mistake: When Nancy is running up the stairs in her house to escape Freddy for the first time her foot hits the steps and go through the steps into some goop. Look at the steps above that step and you can see the pre-cut holes where the next sets of goop will be. (00:39:10)

Revealing mistake: When Nancy is running upstairs, and struggling in the goop holes, we see a shot of Freddy smash his arm through the small door window. If you play in slow-motion, you can see a large pre-made crack in the window to make it easier for him to smash, which WASN'T there when Nancy ran through... (00:39:15)

Hamster

Continuity mistake: When Nancy tackles Freddy on her bed, the alarm clock on her bedside table is away from the edge of the desk. Yet in the shot when Freddy and Nancy roll off the side of the bed, the alarm clock on the bedside table has noticeably moved right to the edge so that Nancy can grab it as she falls. (00:40:05)

Hamster

Plot hole: Nancy has realised she has pulled Freddy out of her dream, but later Freddy and Nancy were basically in the same position in Nancy's dream, why didn't Freddy come out of the dream world and come into reality then? (00:40:17 - 01:18:01)

oobs

Mortug

Continuity mistake: After Rod's funeral where Nancy's mother is about to get into her car, there's a shot of her saying "I'm going to get her some help". There's a gravestone behind her that reads "Coulter". When we see her entering the car, with her relative position unchanged, the gravestone reads "McRenolds" (00:47:05)

Revealing mistake: The day after Nancy comes out of her dream with Freddy's hat, she goes into the kitchen and drinks a big cup of coffee. Firstly she chugs a full cup of hot coffee. Ouch...how did she do that? Secondly she does it without swallowing once. Watch her throat. (00:49:40)

Continuity mistake: When Nancy throws her mother's bottle to the floor she throws it bottom first. When it cuts the bottle lands on its side. With the velocity the bottle was thrown it would have landed bottom first. (00:51:40)

Question: I just saw this movie for the first time and I have three questions for it. First, is Freddy supposed to be a ghost or something or did he not really die? Second, how was Nancy able to bring his hat back after her dream? Third, what was with the ending and Nancy's mom? Was it a dream or real?

Answer: 1. Freddy is the ghost of a child killer, he is very difficult to be rid of. He did not die at the end of this film. 2. It is possible to bring items and even people in and out of the dream world. Although it is never explained in detail how. 3. It was a dream, but as seen in the film, that's not a good thing.
