Revealing mistake: When Bethany comes home from the hospital after losing her arm, her dad drives them to the back of the house to avoid the reporters. Bethany has her arm covered up with a throw so it can't be seen. When she gets out of the car, you can clearly see the outline of her entire arm underneath the throw.

Continuity mistake: When they get to the beach to surf the windows in the truck are left open, but after the shark attack Byron comes running back to call 911. The windows are now closed, so he has to throw the rock at the window and get the cell phone.

Trivia: The real Bethany Hamilton did all the one-armed surfing stunts for AnnaSophia Robb. Robb's head was digitally placed onto Hamilton's body for the close-up shots.
