Character mistake: During the military parade, check the lady behind the soldier on the left. She can't help stare at the camera the whole time before the soldiers arrive. (00:07:03)
Continuity mistake: The man on the left holds the cards with both hands in one shot but with a single hand in the following. (00:17:08)
Continuity mistake: At the club, after Fogg says "I include the unforeseen" the man behind swaps from having a cigar in his hand to close to his lips. (00:18:32)
Continuity mistake: When the last member of the club accepts the bet, his hand swaps from being on the table to raised, between shots. (00:19:39)
Revealing mistake: When the ship is about to leave, in a close-up one can see the sky and clouds are a painted backdrop: no perspective at all, the clouds inches away and at waist level. (01:01:33)
Continuity mistake: The position of Fix's hands changes between shots. (01:47:41)
Visible crew/equipment: During the parade in San Francisco the shadow of the filming camera and of the camera operator are visible on the left side of the road for almost 10 seconds. (01:59:40)
Factual error: In 1872 San Francisco there's a barrel of Pabst beer, but it's name then was Best. It didn't change to Pabst until 1890. (02:00:30)
Revealing mistake: In the scene out West with the buffalo, notice the car driving in the distant background.
Continuity mistake: Many times through out the film the red bag that contains all the money is not seen with the main group, even though they supposedly keep it with them at all times. The most noticeable example is when the two main characters first fly into Spain in the balloon and when the interior of the basket is visible the bag has simply vanished, but they have it again later.
Other mistake: When they are in San Francisco, notice the pianist. The keys he presses don't correspond with the notes he's supposedly playing. It's a little bit obvious that the music was recorded in advance.
Plot hole: When Fogg convinces the cargo ship captain to take him to Shanghai, he pays for the passage of himself and two of his colleagues. One of these colleagues is Aouda, but as Passpartout is not there, the other one must be Fix. Why, then, does Fix have to pay for his own passage? If you notice, Fogg seems surprised to see Fix on board.
Suggested correction: At no point do they travel to Shanghai. They travel from India to Hong Kong to Yokohama. There is no scene where he negotiates with the cargo ship Captain. And he is definitely not surprised to see Fix. Are you sure you were watching the 1956 version?
Suggested correction: Just in case Passpartout does show up at the last minute? Also, knowing Phineas Fogg, he has probably already hired Passpartout's replacement and it is for him.
Continuity mistake: When Fogg stops the Purple Cloud's propeller on the Alp after inspecting it, the fan he puts his hand on to stop is pointed downward at a 45 degree angle to the ground. But when it shows him coming around the corner of the vehicle, it is sticking out past the side parallel with the ground.
Suggested correction: There is no such scene in the movie. You're probably thinking of the miniseries from the '80s.
Continuity mistake: Near the end of the movie, when Fogg and party are on the Henrietta, there is a scene at the Reform Club. On each side of the big map, there is a chalkboard with wagers and current odds. When the scene opens, the chalkboard on the left is visible, and the odds are 10 to 1. The camera angle changes to show the chalkboard on the right, and the odds are now 8 to 1.
Suggested correction: At no time in the scenes in question do we see a big map or a chalkboard with the odds at the Reform Club. There is a chalkboard with the odds at Lloyd's but in the only scene there at this point in the movie, the odds are blank. Like many other mistakes on this page, you are probably referring to a different version, not the 1956 movie.
Continuity mistake: When Passpartout meets a man carrying a sandwich board saying SATURDAY RESULTS, he concludes that it is Saturday without looking at either side of the sign.
Continuity mistake: At the saloon, when a man throws a knife at Passepartout and stabs it on a piece of wood on the side of the table he knocks down the beer glass. A shot later the beer is standing upright and the wood has moved to the center of the table.
Plot hole: The ship they missed in New York was headed for Liverpool, so they took one bound for Bordeaux, France. After the ship was commandeered, they proceeded to Liverpool, but with Fogg in charge, he could go anywhere he wanted. Southampton was about the same distance as Liverpool from where they were, and they could have docked at a point closer to, or even in, London, their destination.
Suggested correction: The ship was not headed to Bordeaux. It was originally headed to Venezuela. And they didn't have time to choose a destination. It is specifically stated they only have an hour of pressure left when they spotted land. You may be referring to a different adaptation of the story.
Audio problem: When we are introduced to Passepartout riding a monocycle a man inside a carriage cries "Move over, son!" but his lips don't match what we hear.
Audio problem: When Passepartout dances flamenco the tambourine player is out of sync with the music playing. After a while he even stops playing it but the music keeps going on.
Audio problem: When they arrive in Spain, Passepartout speaks to a Spaniard, whose heavy foreign accent shows he's not Spanish (it was Italian born and USA citizen Constanzo "Jose" Greco). It is so obvious and lame that his Spanish voice was dubbed with a real Andalusian accent in the Spanish release.
