Factual error: When they are up on the roof singing the songs there are faint TV aerials in the distance.

Suggested correction: Nonsense. The sequence is obviously shot on a soundstage with the cityscapes depicted by painted backdrops and matte paintings. Please specify exactly where you saw these supposed aerials.

Continuity mistake: When Mary Poppins starts to read the "qualifications", the paper she reads from is whole, with no kind of indication that it had ever been torn. After a quick cut to George and back to the paper, the closeup of the paper reveals the lines where it was torn. Also in this scene, when she comes in, she has white gloves on. In the closeup on the paper, the gloves are gray, and a few shots later, they're white again.

Suggested correction: According to the 40th anniversary DVD special feature "Poppins Fun Facts", it is just the lighting that make her gloves appear gray/black. They are, in fact, white the entire time.

Continuity mistake: When Mary Poppins is reading the childrens' torn-up note to Mr. Banks, she is wearing a pair of white gloves. The next shot is a close-up and she is wearing black gloves. And then finally a room shot, where she's wearing white gloves again.

Suggested correction: The gloves appear black due to the bright light being show through the paper to show off the torn parts. It is a dark shadow.

I disagree. The gloves are actually black padded gloves instead of thin cotton gloves and are definitely a dark color.

Revealing mistake: After the letter is torn up and Mary is in the house talking to George, one minute her glove is white, the next it's purple.

Suggested correction: Her glove is white, the entire time. It's a trick of the light that makes it appear a different color.

Continuity mistake: The father tears the children's advert for a nanny up into 8 pieces, but when it comes out of the chimney it's in far more bits.

Trivia: To celebrate the film's anniversary and release on DVD, there was a special screening of the film, at which Dick Van Dyke shared a humorous personal memory. On his way to the original premiere of the film, Dick Van Dyke's limousine ran out of gas not too far from the theater, so Dick himself got out and pushed the car to the red carpet.

Question: How did they film the shot with the different colour medicines coming out of the same bottle?

Answer: Most likely a variation on the "inexhaustible bottle" magic trick which has existed in various forms for hundreds of years - it relies on different chambers holding different liquids, and air holes in the bottle being covered or not change the pressure and allow the desired liquid to flow out. As the scene is one continuous shot with the entire bottle visible, this seems most likely - the air holes could be on the side away from the camera, with Julie Andrews repositioning her thumb for each colour.
