7/10.I found this a pretty decent reboot. It does do a lot of things of the previous movies but that was to please the fans.If they didn't do things like knucklehead teens fans would complain.Jason runs here like he did in Parts 2-4, nothing wrong with that.I found making him a bit more clever an original and good idea. The dislike I don't get since I enjoyed it, One thing that was interesting, at least to me, was the final girl looked like his mother. That almost seemed like a nod to Part 2 only here she looks sort of like Jason's mother.Dererk Mears, who plays Jason, was pretty good at it.

I watched this movie on Netflix.

I'll be right up front and say I do like the Friday the 13th series. But I've never been a mega fan like a lot people get. I didn't grow up watching horror or slasher films, so I don't have that connection to Freddy, Jason, Myers, or the likes.
That being said, I do seem to like Jason the best of those and I have since gotten more of an appreciation of those films. And I absolutely love Jason X.

I saw this reboot movie back when it came out on RedBox in 09, which was around the time I graduated highschool. At that time, I don't think I had seen many, if any, of the classic 13th movies fully. But now that I have, I can see why people seem to not like this one.

For one, they get a lot of Jason's mannerisms and style wrong. He even full on sprints and runs in this movie which he never does. Jason walks really fast at you never stopping. He also keeps prisoners in this film.

Then the pacing is horrible. With no real tangible story to get a hold of, other than the basics of... it's a bunch of teens doing drugs and having sex so Jason kills them. That was in all the other films but there was more of a story to them at least, and they gave use more reason to like and care about the characters before they died. Here it's just a bunch of run of the mill stock characters. Even the guy from Supernatural feels bland in this movie.
And then it just plays to the beats of the old films, seeming like it just wants to play the hits with the kills and the sets. But nothing special, nothing warenting this reboot.

That being said, it's not a terrible movie. Despite the negatives... I can't really call it bad. But it's bland, boring almost aside from one really hot as hell sex scene. So this stands to just be a meh. 3 star film.

Mistake Status: Saw one when watching, not sure if I'll come back for mistakes. If I ever do mistake hunt the franchise, this will be one of them.

Trivia: According to Michael Bay, Travis Van Winkle's Trent is the exact same Trent from the Transformers movie, meaning that both movies take place in the same universe.

Upvote valid corrections to help move entries into the corrections section.

Suggested correction: This info has been proven to be wrong. In Transformers, Travis Van Winkle plays Trent DeMarco, while here he plays Trent Sutton.

While I don't think Michael Bay ever directly said they exist in the same universe (if he did, I can't find it, so a link to him saying it should be provided). However, the films, as is, never reveal Trent's last name. For Friday the 13th, "Sutton" comes from a deleted scene, and "DeMarco" comes from the novelization of the "Transformers" film.

To add, the trivia never stated what Trent's last name was. Only that they were the same character.

Question: In the beginning, Richy gets his foot caught in a bear trap. Did Jason put this there or did the people put it there?

tetracore99

Chosen answer: It was left by hunters. Jason doesn't have the mental capacity to set traps for his victims.

razoprill

Jason had set up an elaborate warning trip wire that rang bells at his house. I am sure he could have set a bear trap.

I agree. Jason has shown to be quite intelligent and even able to carefully plan his attacks so setting up a bear trap wouldn't be hard to do.
