The Karate Kid Part II

Continuity mistake: When Mr. Miyagi is trying to capture a fly with his chopsticks he finally does, and the fly is captured about 2 inches from the end of the chopsticks. The tips of the chopsticks are crossed with the fly in the middle. When the camera cuts to the side angle while Daniel is driving up and before Mr. Miyagi releases the fly, the fly is now trapped at the very end of the chopsticks and the tips of the chopsticks are not crossed. Continuity mistake: At the start, when Daniel and Miyagi are at the back of Miyagi's house, Miyagi walks up to the new wood housing. On the housing's ledge there is a pot for nails, a measuring tape, a knife and a small pot behind the nail pot. A few shots later, the measuring tape and knife have both vanished. (00:10:50 - 00:12:55)

The-Immortal

Continuity mistake: At the start, the postman gives Miyagi a letter from Okinawa, and when the postman says "Okinawa," the postman is holding the letter lengthwise. Then when Miyagi goes to take it, he is holding it widthwise. (00:14:45)

The-Immortal

Continuity mistake: When Daniel and Miyagi are outside the village, Sato pulls up in his car and gets out. Then when Daniel and Miyagi look at him their positions change in the following shot. (00:39:35)

The-Immortal

Continuity mistake: When Chozen hits Daniel in the stomach, on the bridge by the village, one of Chozen's friends kicks the drum under Daniel to the other side of him, but when the girl hurls the vegetable at Chozen, it is back where it originally was. Also, when the girl hurls the vegetable he looks over his shoulder to his left, yet in the closeup he is looking over his right shoulder. (00:55:25)

Continuity mistake: When Daniel goes sightseeing with the Japanese girl, they have a little running race to the castle. When they both stop running Daniel says "You cheated," and he is pointing at the girl with his right hand, but when the shot changes he is pointing with his left hand. (00:59:50)

We then see two shots with six pieces of ice. When Daniel finally breaks the ice there are once again only four pieces of ice in the rack. (01:07:30 - 01:08:25)

luchador

Continuity mistake: When Daniel is about to break the six pieces of ice, the slabs of ice change from shot to shot. In one shot the 5th piece from the left is peaked and taller than the others. In the next shot of the ice the 3rd piece from the left is the tallest piece of ice. (01:07:50)

Continuity mistake: When Miyagi goes to see Sato at his house, at the opening of this scene, Miyagi and Sato's assistant walk rather close to Sato in one shot, but when it cuts to behind Sato, Miyagi and the assistant are much further away. (01:08:00)

The-Immortal

Continuity mistake: When Sato goes to see Miyagi, but he isn't there, Chozen destroys the dojo then tells his two friends to let Daniel go, and they throw him forward. His hands are not in the fighting stance, yet in the following shot he is now in his fighting stance with his hands at the ready. (01:15:25)

The-Immortal

Continuity mistake: At the end, when lots of people are dancing in the castle, it cuts to a man banging the drums and the music stops. Miyagi and his lady friend are standing in front of the fountain in the middle and Daniel is to the left of the screen, but in the following shot Miyagi and his friend are right in front of Daniel. (01:37:40)

The-Immortal

Continuity mistake: When Daniel uses the Miyagi drum technique against Chozen at the end of the film, the third blow travels from Daniel's left to his right. So Chozen should falter back to his own left. But when the shot cuts back to over Daniel's shoulder, the blow sends Chozen to his right instead.

Continuity mistake: When Mr. Miyagi and Daniel meet Sato in the garage, Chozen throws Daniel's book about Okinawa on the ground. Daniel then picks up the book and holds it by its short side. In the next shot, we can see that Daniel somehow now holds the book by its long side.

Continuity mistake: When Miyagi is showing Daniel the "Drum Technique" by the water, Miyagi sends the hook thing flying at Daniel. Daniel goes flying into the water and gets soaked. You can tell if you look at his shirt, it is stuck to his chest. He then climbs back up and a few seconds later, he is A LOT drier.

Continuity mistake: During the "fight to the death" Daniel successfully lands both a roundhouse kick and then a spinning back kick, but when the angle changes, he is still set up for the roundhouse kick (which he wouldn't have had time to throw again) and the spinning back kick is blocked.

Continuity mistake: When Daniel is striking Chozen during their fight at the end it's right left right left. Yet at one point during a shot of Daniel's back he strikes Chozen twice with his open left hand when it should've been left right like the rest of the time.

Rob245

Continuity mistake: When Chozen moves at Mr. Myagi with the spear, when Mr. Myagi grabs the spear the first time, he places it between the 2 pieces of wood, but then when Chozen picks it up to attack him a second time, the spear is to the left of the 2 pieces of wood, in the ground.

Trivia: During one fight, Chozen manages to hit Mr. Miyagi across the back with the handle of a spear. This is the only time in the original series of films when someone managed a successful strike on Miyagi during any fight he was in.

Question: Throughout the film, are there a series of deliberate 'Back to the Future' references? I noticed two straight away - Daniel says 'If you put your mind to it anything is possible, you can do anything' which is repeated several times during BTTF. Also, when Daniel and Kumiko are at the dance, the song 'Earth Angel' can be heard. The song at the climax of the dance in BTTF. Are these deliberate, as BTTF was a year before this movie?

Professor Lazarus

Chosen answer: No it is not deliberate. what Daniel says is a common saying, and Earth Angel was a popular song. coincidence at best.

MasterOfAll

Answer: Also, Daniel's "put your mind to it you can accomplish anything" (before painting the fence) was used in the first film from 1984 - a year BEFORE Back to the Future came out.
