Factual error: For a movie supposedly set in late December in a Northern state, all of the deciduous trees still have leaves on them. The most obvious place to see this is in the opening scene, when Billy is trying to start his car in front of his house. (00:07:05)

Visible crew/equipment: As Mrs. Deagle is walking along the street, carrying the broken snowman head, as she passes one store, clearly reflected, a little ahead of her, is a man carrying the boom mike. (00:10:00)

Hamster

Continuity mistake: This is in the scene near the beginning of the movie at the bar where Billy's girlfriend works. Billy is sitting at a table drawing. He is joined by the Vice President of the bank he works at. He sits down and starts talking to Billy. Billy looks up at him while he's talking. Then in the next shot, which shows them both, Billy is looking down at his drawing as if he weren't even paying attention. (00:14:10)

Gremlins mistake picture

Continuity mistake: When Billy puts the santa hat on Gizmo, in the first shot the hat is folded backwards so that the bobbled end is hanging behind the hat. In the next shot it hangs over the front of the hat. (00:19:45)

Hamster

Revealing mistake: In the scene with the malfunctioning juicer, you can see the actor who plays Billy is about to laugh right before all the juice explodes out of the machine. As that is happening, you can see he has broken out into a full laugh. True, he might be showing some mirth over another one of his father's malfunctioning inventions, but he was about to break out into laughter before anything happens, and his laughter is inconsistent with his frustrated demeanor when Pete walks into the kitchen. (00:22:40)

Deliberate mistake: During the scene with the malfunctioning juice maker, when it goes nuts there is no possible way that all that juice and pulp could have come from just one orange. (00:22:45)

Hamster

Revealing mistake: Not long into the film when Billy wakes up to find the dog tied up in Christmas lights it's obviously a fake dog, when the camera view is onto the front of the house. (00:29:05)

Revealing mistake: When the professor is trying to find the gremlin, he is in the room with the movie playing. The projector that is playing the movie is actually moving backwards. (00:44:35 - 00:47:35)

Continuity mistake: When Dr. Hanson dismisses his students, a box falls, produces smoke, and he moves backwards. From a different angle the smoke is gone and he is repeating all the movements. (00:46:05)

Sacha

Continuity mistake: In the dark classroom, Billy grabs for the phone, but the Gremlin grabs him. Billy then backs away. We then see the Gremlin reach for an apple which is sitting next to the phone. But the apple wasn't there in the previous shot. (00:47:40)

Hamster

Visible crew/equipment: In the classroom a Gremlin takes an apple, then eats it behind a desk. The Gremlin then throws it from behind the desk. Look closely and you will see the apple is actually thrown by a human hand, not a Gremlin hand. (00:48:00)

Visible crew/equipment: When a gremlin attacks the Mum from a Christmas tree, and the tree falls on top of her, you can clearly see a member of the crew with eyeglasses, wearing a red shirt, standing behind the tree pushing it forward on top of her. (00:54:30)

Sacha

Continuity mistake: Right after the mom sprays the Gremlin in the face with the flea and tick spray, forcing him into the microwave, we see the Gremlin cooking away in the microwave with the spray can in the foreground, its label facing the camera. In the shot where the Gremlin blows up, the can's label is no longer facing the camera, plus immediately after the Gremlin goes ka-blooie, something cracks in front of the spray can, distorting our view of it. (00:55:30)

Gizmo: Bye, Billy.

Trivia: At the beginning of the film, when Billy is late for work, you see two films playing at the movie theater: "A Boy's Life" and "Watch the Skies." The former was the original title for "E.T." and the latter was the original title for a proposed sequel to "Close Encounters of the Third Kind." Two films directed by executive producer Steven Spielberg. (00:08:30)

Question: What exactly is meant by never feed them "after midnight". Every moment of time that does not happen right at midnight may be construed as happening after midnight...even 11:59PM which occurs 23 hours 59 minutes and 59 seconds AFTER the preceding midnight. I would assume that the afternoon hours are considered before midnight, but does anyone know the exact extent of "after midnight"?

Michael Westpy

Chosen answer: The precise cut-off point is never stated - I've generally assumed that the embargo on feeding finishes once the sun comes up.
