Deep Blue Sea

Factual error: Without wanting to go into extreme details, the genetics and biochemistry of the entire film is flawed. No geneticist in their right mind would even think about using gene therapy - a technique which is not entirely successful yet - to increase the size of the gland. One would use any of multiple techniques to identify and clone the gene responsible for the protein in question. It is cheaper, more successful, and a lot safer and quicker to do. A copy of the gene could be inserted into E. coli and produced on a mass scale in a beaker on land. After the protein had been isolated it would not be able to be given to patients in a pill form because it would be digested in the gut (like insulin for diabetics). (00:05:20 - 00:48:55)

Factual error: Near the beginning when the boat pulls up and the guy on the boat tells the blond convict he's got a beauty 13 foot "Tiger shark" that's up in some sort of sling, the so called tiger shark is actually the same robot mako shark from the rest of the movie, just with stripes on it. Tiger sharks have a blunt rounded nose, not a pointed one like a great white. (00:07:35)

Continuity mistake: When Carter climbs the ladder to get out of the water after removing the licence plate from the shark's mouth, it shows a shot of his feet and he is wearing sandals. In the tank he was wearing swim fins. He talks to the big boss for a few seconds and the fins are nowhere to be seen. He then walks away with the fins in his hand. (00:08:55 - 00:10:20)

Factual error: The so-called 'tiger shark' fed to the Makos is quite unrealistic. As someone already mentioned, the snout is that of a Great White. Furthermore, the teeth are that of a Mako. Tiger shark teeth are very distinct; they resemble a cross between a dagger and a saw blade. (00:09:10)

Continuity mistake: At the start of the film when the man is trying to remove the licence plate from the sharks mouth you see a shot of him holding on to the fin on the huge shark from above the water. you can see the man is a good bit away from the mouth of the shark yet when we see the underwater shot he is just finger tips from the license plate. (00:09:20)

Continuity mistake: Look carefully at the licence plate when Blake removes it from the shark's mouth. It bends and flexes as though it's made out of rubber or even cardboard. Of course in the next scene when he throws it on the walkway, it's an ordinary licence plate. (00:09:30)

Continuity mistake: At the beginning, when Dr. McCallister is getting off the helicopter, she is wearing trousers, but when she is talking to Franklin, she is wearing a dress. (00:12:45)

Visible crew/equipment: After Preacher says "Feeding time" and the camera moves toward the window, you can see the camera's shadow down in the left corner of the screen. (00:16:55)

Mortug

Continuity mistake: When we first meet Preacher, he dips his finger into the whip cream and scoops up a good bit, but in the next shot there's considerably less on his finger. Before Preacher even offers "Bird" the whip cream off his finger, the amount of cream on his finger changes between shots. (00:17:05)

Continuity mistake: When Preacher says "Leave that to the white folks, brother," to Franklin, you can see that Preacher looks rather serious. When it cuts, Preacher is instantly smiling. (00:19:20)

Revealing mistake: When Blake and Dr Susan McAlester (Saffron Burrows) emerge to survey the damaged research facility, you can clearly see coastline in the background, although earlier in the movie we see a weather map showing the facility clearly way out in the the ocean. (00:23:25 - 01:29:20)

Visible crew/equipment: As Carter is swimming in the cage under water there is a frontal view of him where you can see the shadow of the camera moving down in the right corner of the screen. (00:24:45)

Mortug

Continuity mistake: When the shark is brought up to put the needle in his head, it bites off Jim's arm, leaving only a bit left there, but when they are wheeling him to the helicopter you see that he's got more arm than before. (00:33:50 - 00:35:25)

Revealing mistake: When the shark first attacks and bites off Jim's arm, you can briefly see his real arm under his shirt as he's screaming in pain. (00:34:10)

Continuity mistake: Throughout the film, people's clothes get drier/wetter instantly. Most noticeable after Whitlock is attacked and rescued by the helicopter - everyone gets soaked but inside are dry. (00:42:20)

Ssiscool

Continuity mistake: When Preacher is talking to the Lord about his wrath, he is in a wide area of the corridor with "Sub Level 1-A" written on the wall behind him. In the next shot he is approaching the wide area with the sign again. (00:42:30)

Ssiscool

Visible crew/equipment: As Preacher and his parrot are about to go up the stairs to a higher level, you can see a wire attached to the parrot. (00:43:05)

Mortug

Visible crew/equipment: When Preacher's bird flies off, you can see the shadow of someone at the far end of the corridor on the floor. Since no-one else is around, this has to be the trainers shadow to whom the bird flies. (00:43:10)

Ssiscool

Factual error: Since the water was always waist high, how could the huge sharks swim inside? Not to mention the corridors... (00:51:10)

Russell Franklin: You think water moves fast? You should see ice. It moves like it has a mind. Like it knows it killed the world once and got a taste for murder. After the avalanche, it took us a week to climb out. Now, I don't know exactly when we turned on each other, but I know that seven of us survived the slide... And only five made it out. Now we took an oath, that I'm breaking now. We said we'd say it was the snow that killed the other two, but it wasn't. Nature is lethal but it doesn't hold a candle to man.

Trivia: In both Jaws and Deep Blue Sea there is a scene involving a license plate. In Jaws it is removed from the belly of the dead tiger shark. In Deep Blue Sea it is removed from the teeth of a tiger shark. Not only are both sharks the same kind but both plates are from Louisiana. The license plate number is the same in both films: 007 o 981 Exp 72-73.

Question: Was there supposed to be some more of the scene between Carter and Susan after she had killed the third shark?

Answer: I assume you are referring to the scene after Susan killed the second shark (she was killed before the third shark was killed). The comments LL makes to finish that scene do seem a little out of place with what they were talking about but the film does have a number of scenes cut out. Most of the deleted scenes on the DVD deal with character development and dialogue but there is no evidence the scene was cut as the DVD's deleted scenes dont have any extra footage on that scene or alternate dialogue.

Lummie

Answer: Yes, Susan and Carter actually share a kiss in the original ending. They grew smitten with one another in unreleased deleted scenes leading up to it. The kiss is interrupted by Sherman "Preacher" Dudley clearing his throat, who's still recovering from his wounds. This, of course, was part of the unreleased original ending that was changed at the last minute due to test audiences wanting Susan to die. The footage was never released but there are stills from said kiss and this was how it was scripted to end. Fans started a petition on the Change site asking Warner to release the original ending and even Thomas Jane is promoting it on his Instagram account. But as of now, the ending has yet to be released.
