Visible crew/equipment: In Venice, when they enter the house, the camera crew is reflected on the windshield of the boat. It is very obvious. (00:08:00)
Factual error: When Steve is measuring the position of the safe, 14' 8" is depicted as 14.8 and 8' 5" is shown as 8.5. This is completely wrong. (00:08:50)
Suggested correction: They wrote it that way because they wanted to. They do not have to write it as 8'5." Short forming would be 8.5 since they know what scale they are using to measure with.
Other mistake: In the opening boat chase in Venice, the safe is supposedly represented by a metal pipe structure covered by cloth. But it doesn't flap or wave in the wind at all. On the contrary it has completely straight sides. It is quite clear that there must be a box underneath. (00:10:00)
Suggested correction: It may seem like that, in actuality there is a military grade fabric Lycra-Kevline that does not buckle or wave like ordinary fabrics.
This correction seems to have been made without watching the scene and understanding the mistake. Plus I think they meant to say "Kevlar." But, whatever material they're thinking of wouldn't behave like a solid piece of wood by not moving in the wind. And, the material wouldn't magically make rounded corners straight edged.
Revealing mistake: Several times in Venice, you can see the wake of the film crew's boat in the water. (00:11:20)
Continuity mistake: In the first heist we see a quick shot of the garbage men getting into position followed by a shot of John and Charlie in the water moving some of the gold. In the shot of John, the way he holds the current gold bar changes between shots. (00:14:40)
Continuity mistake: During the Venice water chase, Charlie's boat goes under a bridge toward two green tugs. The tugs are moving apart to let him through, but when he comes out from under the bridge, the two tugs are close together and off to one side. In the very next shot, they are far enough apart to allow Charlie's pursuer to pass between them. (00:14:50)
Revealing mistake: At the start, Rob and Lyle go under a bridge towards the garbage men and correctly leave a wake behind them in the water. When the shot changes to show the pursuer following them, the water is still and there's no sign of the wake from Rob's boat. (00:15:10)
Factual error: The group is plunged into the icy water for at least several minutes wearing nothing but light jackets yet no one seems to be suffering from hypothermia in the slightest when they show up on shore. (00:21:30)
Revealing mistake: When the van goes off the bridge at the start, you can see that no-one is in the van. (00:21:45)
Factual error: In the flashback scene of Lyle when his roommate steals the Napster code, the caption says Northeast University - 1999. The computer Lyle is sleeping at is running Windows XP, which was not commercially available at the time. (00:29:30)
Suggested correction: Actually that is not Win XP on Lyle's computer, based upon the Dell XPS D233 shown on his right, Win NT4 SP2 is what is running on the display. I had a similar D266 running NT4 SP3 back in 98.
Factual error: In the scene where Charlie is introducing the gang to Stella, the Napster arrives on a yellow Ducati motorcycle. All Ducatis are twin cylinder machines which have a distinctive throbbing exhaust note. The sound used is from a higher revving four cylinder machine, definitely not the bike being ridden. The same is true of the motorcycle chase scenes - they are BMWs, opposed twin configuration not producing the 4-cylinder engine noise, which must be overdubbed. (00:30:10)
Continuity mistake: During the flashback to Charlie's childhood, immediately before the kid gets his book slapped out of his hands, the book is open. When it cuts, some of the pages are suddenly sticking up. (00:31:15)
Continuity mistake: When we are looking back to when Charlie was a kid we see the thug kid walking by some kids before he slaps the book out of the other kid's hands. When it cuts, one of the girls that the thug just passed by suddenly is far down the hall. She couldn't have gotten there that fast. (00:31:15)
Continuity mistake: When the kid has thrown the ball on the thug kid, you see the thug stumble forward. When it cuts he stumbles again. (00:31:20)
Continuity mistake: When Charlie is a kid, a kid knocks another kid's book out of his hands. The book hits the lockers and one of the lockers swings open. When it cuts, the locker is closed again. (00:31:20)
Continuity mistake: When Rob gets the key off Becky, a camera man's shadow can be seen moving over the bed. This is not Rob's shadow as at the time he isn't moving. (00:43:20)
Continuity mistake: A scene in the junkyard, near the middle of the film, the Ukrainian gang's black Cadillac Seville is shown entering the location. However. In the next shot, the car has suddenly changed into a black Cadillac CTS. (00:50:00)
Continuity mistake: When Lyle and Charlie are arguing about calling him 'the Napster', note Stella Bridger in the background. Her cup goes from chest height to down on the table. (00:53:10)
Visible crew/equipment: When the crew first get the Minis and are testing them out, as Stella gets into the car and the camera pans down you can see in the front passenger window and rear, the reflection of the camera and an older crew member in the back. (00:54:05)
Continuity mistake: In the sequence where the three Minis are being driven around a waterway as a rehearsal for the job, the auxiliary driving lights (the ones fixed in front of the radiator) go off and on. In the first shot all the cars have these lights on, in the next external shot the white car has them switched off, then back on again for the immediately following shot. Shortly afterwards the red Mini has these lights off for one shot - then back on in the very next one. (00:58:15)
