Visible crew/equipment: After returning from the Chamber of Secrets, Ron and Harry are in Dumbledore's study when he says, "There is sufficient evidence to have you both expelled," and on the floor behind his chair is a broad bright white tape mark at the edge of the rug. (02:18:00)
Continuity mistake: In the second to last scene when Dumbledore is talking to Harry and Ron, Ron's hair is a bit roughed and has a big cowlick. In the next shot, the cowlick is gone and both Ron and Harry's hair is neat. (02:18:20)
Continuity mistake: When Harry is cornered by the Basilisk the Basilisk is a foot away from his face, but when he reaches to his side to pick up the rock, the Basilisk is a metre (about a yard) away. (02:19:10)
Revealing mistake: In the many and lengthy dialogue scenes between Potter and Dumbledore, with countless facial close-ups, neither of them have glass in their spectacles. (02:19:40)
Continuity mistake: In Dumbledore's study, when Harry is handed Godric Gryffindor's sword, in the close-up the name written down the length of the sword is clean, with blood stains only below the name. Yet in the previous and following shots, the blood stains are much closer to the hilt of the sword where the name is. (02:20:50)
Visible crew/equipment: While Harry is in Dumbledore's study, in the two semi-overhead shots as Lucius Malfoy says, "So it's true. You have returned," and later when he says, "Come Dobby, we're leaving," sitting on the floor directly behind Dumbledore is a large STEEL piece of the crew's equipment, plus in the second shot another piece of equipment actually moves in front of the steel piece. (02:21:35 - 02:23:35)
Continuity mistake: When Lucius Malfoy charges into Dumbledore's study, in the overhead shot as he says, "So it's true. You have returned," the diary is visible and it barely has a shadow on the desk, yet in the next shot, a close-up of Dumbledore, the diary casts a long shadow. When Lucius leaves, Harry begins to ask, "Sir...," in the overhead shot, the diary sits at the top of Dumbledore's desk, yet in the next shot, a close-up of the diary, it sits close to the bottom. (02:21:35 - 02:24:00)
Revealing mistake: At the beginning of the scene near the end of the movie with Lucius Malfoy fuming at Dumbledore in his office, Malfoy's hair is fanned back behind his shoulders. The lighting in the room illuminates the back of his neck, where you can see his real, short brown hair. (02:22:05)
Visible crew/equipment: In his study, Dumbledore speaks to Lucius Malfoy and holds up the skewered diary for Malfoy to see. When Dumbledore puts the diary down in this shot as Dobby tugs on Harry's sleeve the moving black wire between Dobby and Malfoy on Dobby's left is visible on the bottom of the screen. This wire was attached to Harry's sleeve to make it move and though the wire between Dobby and Harry was edited out, the other end was not. (Visible on fullscreen DVD.) (02:22:50)
Continuity mistake: When Harry, Dumbledore, and Lucius Malfoy are in Dumbledore's office and Harry says he will be around to save the day, his face is clean. Later, when Harry gives Malfoy Tom Riddle's diary, his face is as grimy as it was in the Chamber. (02:23:25 - 02:24:25)
Continuity mistake: When Lucius Malfoy tries to curse Harry, Dobby stands directly in front of Harry and says, "You shall not harm Harry Potter!" In the side shot of Lucius Malfoy being thrown, Harry is behind Dobby to his right and the grass with its shadow is visible. Though, in the next back shot Harry stands behind Dobby to his left and the grass is again visible, but with no shadow. (02:25:30)
Continuity mistake: When Harry falls out of the car as he and Ron are flying above the train, his hand misses the door handle completely and he should have fallen clear to the bottom of the gorge. However, in the next shot and after, he is hanging onto the handle quite firmly.
Continuity mistake: While Harry is communicating with Riddle's diary, after the words "let me take you back fifty years ago" appear on the page, the ink pot's lid is open as the diary pages flip and Harry lifts the book, but in the shot from Harry's POV we see the ink pot lid closed, then the lid is open again when Harry's transported.
Continuity mistake: When Harry is in the Chamber of Secrets and has just killed the basilisk, you can see in three or four shots that Harry is still on top of Salazar Slytherin's head. Now when the basilisk falls down dead, Riddle looks upward in anger at Harry who should still be up there. However, in the shot immediately following, it shows Harry walking right next to the dead basilisk.
Other mistake: In the ending credits, the character of Hannah Abbott is listed as "Hannah Hufflepuff."
Suggested correction: That is because the viewing audience (well in a deleted scene anyway) only heard her first name of Hannah and knew she was a Hufflepuff by her robes. This was done intentionally, not to say her last name is Hufflepuff, but so the audience would know who this is in reference to. Not everyone in the viewing audience is a die hard Harry Potter fan who would know that's Hannah Abbott with her last name not being said.
Visible crew/equipment: When Harry and Ron are getting chased by spiders while in the Ford Anglia, you can see a cameraman's shadow on the car (just after they spin around and Harry yells 'Go.').
Continuity mistake: When Harry stabs the basilisk through the roof of the mouth, he pulls his arm out and the fang is not in his arm. Yet a few frames later it appears.
Other mistake: When Fawkes carries Lockhart, Ron, Harry, and Ginny out of the Chamber, you can see their shadows on the rocks. Fawkes' shadow is also visible, but his flapping wings aren't seen.
Revealing mistake: In the scene when Harry and Ron come back to the bathroom after drinking the polyjuice potion, they find Hermione turned into a cat. Look at her eyes. When she turns around, a digital editing oval appears around her eyes for the rest of that shot.
Continuity mistake: When Harry stabs the diary with the snake fang, the tip should be full of ink. However, there is no ink on the tip when it is on the floor.
