Audio problem: When Tom Riddle confronts young Hagrid, the first time Riddle says, "Now, stand aside," Hagrid yells, "No!" but Hagrid's lips don't move. (01:32:25)
Audio problem: Riddle tells young Hagrid in the close-up, "They'll have your wand for this Hagrid. You'll be expelled." In the following side shot Riddle's mouth still moves as Hagrid puts his head down and though no words are heard his lips move as if repeating "You'll be expelled." It is not until the next shot of Harry as he yells, "Hagrid!" that the memory just begins to end as Harry moves back to the present. (01:32:50)
Continuity mistake: Throughout the film, one of the young actors may have one or more pimples on their face, yet in the following shots which may take place only moments later, the pimples are gone, or visa versa. For example, when Hagrid joins Harry, Hermione and Ron outside when he overhears, "Mad and hairy...," Harry has one on his cheek. Neville tells them to rush to Harry's room. While Harry, whose own pimple has disappeared, searches the mess, the one on Ron's chin is visible, though it wasn't in the shot outside. Scenes are shot out of sequence, hence the erratic complexion continuity problem. (01:33:50 - 01:35:00)
Visible crew/equipment: When Harry and Ron, under the invisibility cloak, knock on the door of Hagrid's hut, Hagrid goes to the door. When Hagrid kicks the door open the MARK, a strip of blue tape, is visible on the floor behind him, near the table. (Visible on DVD fullscreen.) (01:37:45)
Visible crew/equipment: When Harry and Ron are under the invisibility cloak in Hagrid's hut, Hagrid, Dumbledore and Fudge are joined by Lucius Malfoy. In the wide shot as Malfoy steps in, all the mats - their marks - are visible under Malfoy, Fudge and Dumbledore. Then later Dumbledore says, "If the governors desire my removal, I will of course.." and in the shot facing Malfoy as he finishes, "..step aside," the mat that Malfoy now stands on is visible as is the blue mark behind his feet. It's also visible in an earlier shot after he announces the order of suspension. The mat at the foot of Hagrid's chair disappears as well. (Visible on fullscreen DVD.) (01:39:35 - 01:40:55)
Visible crew/equipment: Ron and Harry hide under the invisibility cloak in Hagrid's hut. After Lucius Malfoy enters he starts to walk towards the invisible boys and they nervously back up. As they back up, something large comes up from the bottom of the screen in front of the boys then quickly goes back down. The boys do NOT hold anything when they go under the cloak and they do not hold anything when they come out (fully visible on fullscreen DVD). (01:39:45)
Continuity mistake: In Hagrid's home, when Lucius Malfoy holds out the order of suspension for Dumbledore to take, in the shot facing Malfoy the stiff ribbon ends point in his direction, yet, when the next shot faces Dumbledore, the ribbon ends now point towards Dumbledore. (01:40:15)
Continuity mistake: As Aragog approaches Harry and Ron, Harry says, "Were friends of Hagrid's," and Harry carries the lantern palm side up, at his hip. Yet in the next shot, it's palm side down and the lantern handle is at his shoulder. In the next shot, though it's still at his shoulder it's palm side up now. Then in the two shots facing Aragog, the lantern is down low, but in between those two shots, in the shot facing Harry, his elbow is bent, the lantern is higher up and Fang stands further away. (01:45:15)
Continuity mistake: The car races toward Harry and Ron in the Dark Forest and when it stops, the lantern lies on the ground beside the car's doors. However in the two shots, when Fang gets in (the first time) and when Ron gets in, the lantern is further away from the car. (01:47:55)
Continuity mistake: In the scene where Harry and Ron are in the Dark Forest getting away from the spiders, the car comes and Fang gets in twice. First Fang goes in through Harry's door as the camera faces Harry, then Ron gets in the car and then Fang gets in again through Harry's door as Harry casts his spell. (01:48:00)
Revealing mistake: After the car shows up to save Ron and Harry from the spiders, Harry shouts, "Arania Exumai!" The light from his wand illuminates the car and the NORMAL tread back tire is visible. When they are in the car Harry shouts, "Go!" In the close-up of the tire, before it starts to spin, the tread on the tire is once again visible. However it's an entirely different tire, a deep tread SNOW tire no less. (01:48:10)
Visible crew/equipment: When Harry and Ron are in the car fleeing from the spiders, there is a close-up of them looking towards the back of the car as they drive backwards. Two shots before the close-up of them yelling, "Wooooh!!!" there is a wide shot of the Dark Forest and the car at the top of the screen just as it starts to jump over the tree roots. In this wide shot at the bottom of the screen, the HEADS of TWO crew members are wonderfully visible! (Visible on fullscreen DVD.) (01:48:20)
Continuity mistake: When Ron and Harry are escaping from the spiders in the flying car the passenger's side window that broke earlier hitting the Whomping Willow is not broken, you can see Ron's reflection. A minute later you see that the window is broken again. (01:48:40)
Continuity mistake: When the spider has Ron by the neck, Harry motions for Ron to move his head so he can take aim at the spider and yells, "Arania Exumai!" As the spider is forced away, in the close-up the back of Ron's head is positioned out his window. In the wide shot of the spider as it 'flies' away, Ron is sitting normally in the car. Yet, in the next close-up Ron's head is still positioned out of his window. (01:48:40)
Continuity mistake: When Harry and Ron are reversing out of the forest to escape the pursuing spiders, Ron spins the car 180 degrees. However, when the shot cuts to inside the car both of them are leaning the wrong way. (01:49:20)
Audio problem: After Harry and Ron have found the piece of paper in Hermione's hand, they are walking along a corridor as Harry reads it out. They walk towards the camera and the shot changes and Harry says 'spiders flee before it'. The movement of his lips doesn't match what he says. (01:52:00)
Continuity mistake: When Harry holds the page about the Basilisk that Hermione tore out of a book, in the two close-ups of that page the bottom left side is crookedly ripped into the words. However, in the wide shots as Harry holds it that side of the page is ripped straight down. (01:52:35)
Visible crew/equipment: Ron and Harry discuss the Basilisk's victims and, speaking of Mrs. Norris, Harry says, "There was water on the floor that night. She only saw the Basilisk's reflection." Just before Harry reads aloud from the paper again, the crew's gas torch canister with regulator and tip, that sits in a bucket beside another bucket, leans against the wall. (Visible on DVD fullscreen.) (01:53:10)
Other mistake: When Harry and Ron find out Lockhart is a fraud, when Lockhart says: "My boy do you use your common sense? My books wouldn't have sold half as well if people didn't think I'd done all those things". Watch Harry, he's mouthing his lines. (01:56:00)
Answer: The joke goes like this, "A California business man, while in Japan for some business meetings and a few rounds of golf, arrived in Tokyo a day earlier than expected. Feeling lonely that evening, he employed the services of a beautiful young Japanese girl to be his companion for the evening. Although the Japanese girl spoke very little English and the businessman spoke no Japanese, their passion roared and in the heat of the moment she began yelling "Machigatta ana. Machigatta ana" Hearing this, the Californian believed he had pleased his female Japanese friend and soon afterwards went to sleep. The next day while playing golf with his Japanese business colleague, his Japanese partner holed his shot from 170 yards away. Wanting to impress his friend, the Californian began yelling, "Machigatta ana!" The Japanese business man turned to the Californian and with a confused look on his face asked, "What do you mean wrong hole?"
