Revealing mistake: While sitting on the couch in the hut on the rock, Hagrid asks, "Did you ever make anything happen, anything you couldn't explain? When you were angry or scared?" In the shot when he's getting up off the couch, it is blatantly apparent that the fingers on his left hand are latex in this shot. The hands are visibly artificial in other shots as well. (00:15:30)
Continuity mistake: When Harry receives his letter from Hogwarts, he opens it and it looks like one letter standard size. When the shot changes, it looks like a card (but we saw Harry unfold it). And when they are in London, right before they enter The Leaky Cauldron, it's standard size again but now there is more then one letter. Notice the folded left hand corner. (00:15:50 - 00:18:35)
Continuity mistake: When Dudley pops up after Hagrid gives him a pig's tail, his face and hands are clean, even though he was just eating Harry's birthday cake with his hands. (00:16:40)
Continuity mistake: In the sea hut scene, when Dudley steals the cake, there's a shot of him eating it and his pyjama shirt is pulled up, then it cuts to Hagrid, and he says 'He'll be under the finest headmaster...' and it cuts back to Dudley, but his pyjama shirt is back down over his pyjama pants. (00:17:10)
Continuity mistake: When Hagrid goes to leave, the door has a gap visible at the top where you can see the rain. When Hagrid grabs hold of the top of the door the gap has vanished. (00:17:20)
Continuity mistake: As Hagrid aims his 'umbrella' at Dudley while he eats Harry's birthday cake, in the side shot one end of the blue string (that was tied around the cake box) hangs down the side of the table, but when Vernon rushes Petunia and Dudley off, in this shot that end of the string lies on top of the table. Yet, when Hagrid says, "We're a bit behind schedule. Best be off," the string hangs off the side again. (00:17:30)
Continuity mistake: When Harry and Hagrid arrive in London and are speaking about what Harry needs to buy, the shot of them walking towards the camera has a block of three shops on their right. I cannot make out what the first one they pass is. The second is a cafe, and has the street no. 35 above it. The one nearest to the camera is a fruiterer/greengrocer ? numbered 33. Hagrid and Harry pass the first shop, and are outside the café. The shot cuts to Hagrid and he passes buildings with the numbers 45 and 44 on them (strange if the odd numbers are on the other side of the street). His head is just about to pass the no. 44 (maybe two steps more and he would pass it). We then cut back to Harry, who is walking past a wine shop ? not one of the three shops above. When we cut back to the shot of Hagrid, (after he has taken a few steps from the previous shot of him) his head is just about to pass the 44. (00:17:44)
Revealing mistake: After Hagrid gives Dudley a tail, watch him in the background while Dudley runs around. It's easy to see it's not Robbie Coltrane but a body double (Martin Bayfield), who is also in a few other shots at the hut. (00:17:45)
Continuity mistake: When Hagrid and Harry step out the back door of the Leaky Cauldron, in the overhead shot there are many glass bottles on the floor, between the barrels. However, after Hagrid says, "Welcome Harry, to Diagon Alley," as they walk out the barrels are visible behind Hagrid and there are no glass bottles between the barrels. The stone ground differs in both shots too. (00:20:05)
Continuity mistake: When Harry and Hagrid walk into Diagon Alley, in the first shot, as they start down the street, on their right they immediately pass; 1- a man in black standing at the doorway to the Daily Prophet office, writing in a notebook, who then starts to walk away. 2- particular men and women walking past the store. 3- store window with Quidditch uniforms. 4- children looking in store window. A few shots later, they pass on their right a man, with bushy grey sideburns, walking with a woman dressed in black, yet in the next shot that same man and woman are chatting in the doorway to the Owl Emporium on their left. Then a few shots after that, still walking, Harry and Hagrid pass all the numbers, 1 through 4 again in close-up. (00:20:40)
Continuity mistake: In the scene in Diagon alley when Harry first enters there are some witches on the left hand side of the screen looking at what appears to be large lollypops and Harry walks past them. The camera angle changes and Harry walks past them again. (00:20:50)
Continuity mistake: When Harry walks into Gringott's for the first time, if you look at the pattern on the floor he jumps forward about 5ft instantly. (00:21:10)
Visible crew/equipment: When Harry and Hagrid walk down Diagon Alley, in the close-up of Quality Quidditch Supplies, a clear reflection of a crew member in a blue shirt is visible, at the top of the screen in the hanging vertical pennant, just as the man with the long red hair walks past the camera. (Visible on DVD fullscreen.) (00:21:20)
Continuity mistake: When Harry and Hagrid are in Gringotts, Hagrid takes the letter from Professor Dumbleldore out of his pocket to give to the Head Goblin. The string it is tied with has a bow that runs from the top to bottom of the envelope, and the envelope is creased. When the Goblin takes it off Hagrid, it is a different envelope - the bow runs from left to right and the envelope is not creased. When viewed from where Harry and Hagrid are standing, the final shot of the envelope again shows it is creased. (00:21:50)
Revealing mistake: When Harry and Hagrid are at Gringotts and are pulling up in the cart to Harry's vault, in the overhead shot you can see the various levels bellow them. In the next shot in the lower left corner you can see what appears to be blue screen just bellow the walking surface. (00:22:10)
Continuity mistake: When Hagrid is in Gringotts, in the shot facing Hagrid when he says, "Professor Dumbledore gave me this," his index and middle finger are on the side of the writing as he hands the letter to the Goblin Bank Teller, yet in the next two shots, Hagrid's thumb is on the side of the writing in front, as he hands the letter over. (00:22:45)
Audio problem: In Gringotts Bank in Diagon Alley as soon as it comes to the scene with the cart Harry and Hagrid are sitting in with the goblin, when they stop and the goblin says "vault 687" if you look close enough, you can see that his mouth isn't actually moving at all. (00:23:10)
Continuity mistake: In Olivander's shop, the packages Harry put down when entering the shop change position between shots. (00:24:30)
Continuity mistake: After leaving Gringotts, Hagrid directs Harry to Ollivanders to buy his wand. When Hagrid says, "Why don't you run along there and wait...," there is a close-up of the store. Under the name Ollivanders the three roll window shades are completely pulled up, allowing the lamp chain to be visible behind the curved showcase window and the window shade at the top of the front door is pulled partially down behind the glass panes. However, as Harry opens the front door in the first shot, the window shades to his left, in the curved showcase window, are partially pulled down and the window shade on the door is now rolled up. (00:24:50)
Continuity mistake: When Harry walks into Ollivanders, in the overhead shot of the shop the table is angled directly in front of the ladder. Yet, when Mr. Ollivander hands Harry the second wand the table is beside the ladder in this shot. (00:25:00 - 00:26:25)
