Continuity mistake: Whilst Clarence and Daniela are giving Killian a bath, in the shot of him looking confused at Clarence, Daniela's left hand is off Killian's shoulder, but when the shot cuts, her left hand is suddenly on his shoulder. (00:04:28)
Continuity mistake: When Daniela is putting Killian to bed, in the shot of her saying "I don't understand you, Dad", Killian's right hand is shown touching the side of her face, but in the next shot, his hand is suddenly off her face. (00:05:15)
Continuity mistake: When Clarence is looking over the scroll of paper, in the close-up shot, she is holding the paper with both hands. When it cuts to a different angle, she is holding it with only her left hand. (00:08:54)
Continuity mistake: When Clarence is looking over the photo that's been cut in half, in a close-up of the photo, her left thumb is shown placed over the top of it. When the shot cuts, her left thumb is now along the bottom. (00:09:16)
Continuity mistake: In 1954, when Killian is about to leave home, he sticks a pair of skis into the snow. In the shot of Killian sticking his skis into the snow, his body is rotated slightly to the left to be face-to-face with the skis and his hands are touching them. In the next shot, his body is suddenly facing forwards and his hands are off the skis. (00:10:19)
Continuity mistake: When Killian first meets up with his father after arriving in Fernando Poo, he hugs him by placing his right arm over his father's shoulder. When the camera changes angles, Killian's right arm is now shown positioned around his father's waist. (00:13:11)
Continuity mistake: When Killian is speaking with his father in the port after arriving, after his father says "Welcome to your birthplace, son", Killian readjusts the bag strap he has over his right shoulder with his left hand. In the next shot, his hand is suddenly off the strap and then goes to readjust it a second time. Then in the shot after that, his hand is off the strap completely. (00:13:17)
Continuity mistake: When the snake is in the truck, in the shot of the guy saying "Get up there and kill it", the snake is entirely inside the truck, away from the edge. It cuts to Killian, then back to the snake, but now it's over the edge of the truck. It cuts back to Killian again, but when it cuts to the guy with the whip, the snake is suddenly back inside the truck, away from the edge. The guy runs up to the snake (the snake still inside the truck), but in a close-up, the snake is over the edge again. (00:18:28)
Continuity mistake: When Killian and Jacobo are speaking with Julia in the shop, Jacobo hands Julia a list and then Julia, still facing the two, turns around and walks away. When the shot cuts, Julia is still facing the two, then turns around and walks away a second time. (00:24:12)
Continuity mistake: Julia picks up a small box of mosquito bite cream to give to Killian. She is shown placing the cream on the counter, positioned to the right of Killian. The next shot, Killian is shown picking up the cream, which is now directly in front of him. While we don't see where the cream was placed, he is shown reaching towards the area in front of him, so it is definitely not in the same place. (00:24:37)
Continuity mistake: When Killian is at the dinner party, in the first wide shot of the table, Killian is shown sitting at his seat, holding a fork, pointed in a downwards position. Then it cuts to a shot focusing on Killian, where the fork is now being held at a sideways position. (00:26:06)
Continuity mistake: Killian and Jacobo are sitting at a table during a party, and a third man begins to sit down with them. Whilst the man is sitting down, Jacobo begins to raise his arm. In the next shot, his arm is fully extended, and has finished flicking cigarette ash into an ash tray. (00:30:06)
Continuity mistake: When Killian and Jacobo are at the fancy party, the camera pans up to reveal Julia standing at the top of the staircase. In the wide shot, Julia is shown with her left hand placed on the bannister. She then removes her hand from the bannister, but still leaves it raised. When the shot cuts, her left hand is suddenly at her side. (00:35:25)
Continuity mistake: When Killian is on the beach with his father, he picks up a baby turtle crawling on the sand. In the close-up shot of the turtle being picked up, some sand can be seen getting stuck in one of Killian's fingernails. When he puts the turtle down two shots later, the sand in his fingernail has disappeared. (00:40:40)
Continuity mistake: When Clarence is at the airport, looking through old photographs, there is a close-up where she discovers a portrait photo of her father. In the close-up, her left hand is positioned along the side of the photo, towards the middle. When the shot cuts, her left hand is suddenly touching the top of the photo. (00:42:37)
Continuity mistake: When Clarence is holding a photo of her father whilst sitting at the airport, she puts down the other photos she is holding, so she can place both hands on the one photo. Then it cuts to a close-up of the photo where only her left hand is touching the photo, whilst her right is picking up another photo. (00:42:40)
Continuity mistake: When everyone is sitting at the camp fire, after someone says "You remind me of Mariana when she was young", it cuts to Julia smiling. In this shot, Julia's hands are off-screen and at her side. When it cuts to a wide shot, her right hand is suddenly over her face. (00:45:00)
Continuity mistake: Whilst Killian is whipping the black man, Ose runs up to him and holds his arm. In this shot, he is holding onto Killian's arm with both hands, but in the next shot, he is only holding onto Killian's arm with one hand. (00:48:47)
Continuity mistake: When Jacobo hugs Julia after he walks away from his father's funeral, Jacobo is shown placing his right arm around Julia's back and is then shown placing his left arm above his right arm. It then cuts to a wide shot where his right arm is now above the left arm. (01:00:51)
