Continuity mistake: When Bond and Stacey enter the elevator at San Francisco City Hall, May Day says "Get back!" and you can see she is holding her gun with both hands. But when she puts down the gun in the next shot, she is now holding it with only one hand. (01:24:20)
Factual error: Zorin throws a 2 liter bottle of gasoline on the elevator in which Bond and Stacy are trapped. The fire from gasoline is nowhere near hot enough to melt a steel elevator cable. (01:26:30)
Continuity mistake: When Bond climbs out of the burning elevator to fetch the hose in order to rescue Stacey, you can see the two cables behind the elevator door are unlit, but after a quick cut to Stacey, we return to the door and the cables are now on fire. (01:26:40)
Revealing mistake: In the long shots of Bond carrying Stacey down the ladder during the City Hall fire scene, you can see that Stacey is not Tanya Roberts but a mannequin. (01:28:30)
Revealing mistake: When Bond climbs out of the burning elevator he is not Roger Moore but a stuntman. (01:29:14)
Continuity mistake: When the police officer is trying to arrest 007 in front of the fire truck, Bond is assuming the position, facing the truck, with both hands pressed against the side. Bond turns away from the truck, removing his hands from the side, but in the next shot, when the camera zooms into Stacey, his hands leave the truck again. (01:29:50)
Continuity mistake: After Bond and Stacey escape the fire at San Francisco City Hall, Bond is confronted by a police chief and he sprays him with water from the fire truck, but when the chief is in his car pursuing Bond through San Francisco, he appears completely dry. (01:30:10)
Visible crew/equipment: During the pursuit scene in San Francisco, there's a long shot where the fire truck passes in front of the camera just before the two police cars get separated. During that shot, you can see a camera crew on top of the truck, in front of the ladder. (01:31:40)
Revealing mistake: During the car chase in San Francisco, Bond knocks off the hats of two men sitting in a white Cadillac when he is hanging from the ladder of the fire truck. You can tell this image is reversed as the steering wheel is on the right hand side of the car, and cars in the United States have steering wheels on the left hand side. (01:32:10)
Continuity mistake: During the chase sequence in San Francisco, Bond is holding onto the ladder on the fire truck and he tells Stacey to turn. After a quick cut to Stacey, we return to the chase scene and you can see Bond is on the ladder facing backwards. When we cut to Bond in the next shot, he is now facing forwards. (01:32:10)
Continuity mistake: During the fire-truck chase-scene the pursuing police cars are shown to be a pair of Dodge Monacos, but during subsequent shots one of them changes into a smaller Plymouth Fury. The cars are not very similar to each other and vastly different in size. (01:32:10)
Visible crew/equipment: In the scene where Roger Moore is driving the stolen firetruck he passes a gas station. When he hits the sign of the gas station you can clearly see a whole camera rig on the side of the truck. (01:32:20)
Factual error: Bond and Stacy jump across the 3rd street bridge in the firetruck in the dead of night. When they arrive at Main Strike Mine it is as if they have been driving for a long time. However it is clear that they are close to town - and San Andreas Lake is only 12 miles south of the 3rd street bridge. (01:34:00)
Factual error: There are no oil wells or oil fields anywhere in the Bay Area (Unlike Los Angeles, where there are oil wells everywhere). (01:41:05)
Continuity mistake: When Zorin is trying to break into the shed where Bond is, just after he's worked out what time high tide is, the door rattles, dropping a hard hat onto the ground, but leaving a red/yellow light/reflector hanging, quite securely. The door lock is also pointing down and right. A couple of shots later, without the door being rattled forcibly again, there's nothing hanging behind it, and the door lock is pointing right. (01:42:15)
Factual error: When Zorin blows the explosives on the train in the mine tunnel, the tunnel collapses, letting the water from San Andreas Lake in. However that would not have generated a huge water column on the surface of the lake. That could only happen with a bomb in the water, not deep below the lake bed. (01:46:20)
Other mistake: During the mine scene, we see Stacy Sutton in very tight miner's overalls. Then, Mayday rips them off to reveal the white dress she was wearing beforehand. There was not enough room in those tight overalls to hike up or bunch the skirt in any way for her to move her legs or have both legs in both pant legs. (01:47:05)
Continuity mistake: The locomotive that Scarpine drives in the quarry throughout the mine sequence has an all-green radiator, but when he and Zorin come out of the mine, the top of the radiator is black. (01:48:30)
Factual error: It would have been impossible for Zorin's airship to be inflated at the speed the film depicts. Nothing could inflate it that fast. (01:49:30)
Revealing mistake: When May Day winches James Bond to get the bomb out of the mine shaft, you can see the cogs of the winch don't move when she turns the handle. (01:51:30)
Suggested correction: It's not a crew member, it's James Bond.
Sacha ★
No, It's not Bond, he's dressed differently, and Bond is on a ladder, both in the earlier and later shots, not in the back of the vehicle.
