A hilarious and entertaining movie, that is sadly overlooked, which is a shame. This movie is brought to life through a well written screenplay filled with charm and wit, and really good performances from Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling, who play likeable characters and have great chemistry together. But there is also an investing mystery at the centre, as well as having the feel of the 1970s. Would recommend if you have not seen it.
Factual error: In the party scene Earth, Wind and Fire's song September is performed. The song was released November 18, 1978. The movie is set in 1977.
Trivia: The corpse of Sid Shattuck, which Ryan Gosling discovers after his drunken roll down the hill, is played by an uncredited Robert Downey Jr., who'd previously starred in Shane Black's "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang", a film which played a large part in revitalising his career after drug and legal issues.
