Continuity mistake: When most of the gang has arrived at Silver City, Owen jumps off of the horse he is riding, and then it cuts to a shot of Randy, who leans out of the lorry window to see what's going on. When it cuts back to Owen, Randy is suddenly sitting back normally in his seat. (01:26:45)
Continuity mistake: When the two brothers are frantically trying to get out of the car because the monster truck is barreling toward them (in slo-mo), you will notice that the tongue ring is missing from the one brother's tongue. Odd mistake seeing as his character is centered around the tongue ring. (01:27:05)
Other mistake: When Rowan Atkinson is riding in the train, near the end of the film, he is looking out the window. He is looking forward, then quickly looks backwards. He does this several times in a row, as if trying to see things quickly as the train passes them. But, when the camera pulls back, Rowan's back is facing the direction the train is moving, thus he was looking the wrong way! You can tell by the way the scenery is moving as you look through the window. (01:28:05)
Visible crew/equipment: When the gang run toward the Silver City Station, they reach the door, struggle a little (as they're all fighting over getting inside) and then they enter. As they arrive at the door and then struggle, from the shot inside you can clearly see the reflection of the camera in the glass of the door. (01:29:10)
Factual error: Silver City doesn't have a train station. (01:30:15)
Continuity mistake: When Donald Sinclair and the gamblers are on the private plane, from an exterior view the plane has five, spaced out, circular windows, but in the interiors shot we see the plane has many more windows, which are less spaced out and are now rectangular. (01:31:35)
Continuity mistake: As everyone is grabbing money from the duffel bag, just before all the lights turn on at the "Feed the World" concert, Merrill is getting money from the bag in one shot, but in the next shot, as the lights turn on, she is now nowhere near the bag, and with money in both hands. (01:32:40)
Continuity mistake: When all the characters get to Silver City and get to the locker room, we see Seth Green in the background and the dude with the tongue ring in front leaning on the door frame. The next shots shows Seth in the front and the tongue guy behind him saying he's sleeping. How did Seth get there so fast? (01:32:45)
Continuity mistake: When Nick and Tracy kiss on the stage at the "Feed the Earth" concert, Tracy has her arm around Nick's chest in one shot, but it's around his neck in the next. (01:33:50)
Continuity mistake: When Vicki and Mr. Grisham are stealing the money near the end, Grisham is in the driver's seat and Vicki is in the passenger's seat. After the cow lands in the car, one shot shows that Mr. Grisham is in the passenger's seat. (01:34:05)
Audio problem: When everybody is on the stage at the "Feed the World" concert, Bev says to the man "You don't understand," but her mouth says something entirely different. (01:34:15)
Continuity mistake: You can see the pierced girl that Blaine likes standing behind him on the "Feed the Earth" stage before we actually get to the scene of her climbing onstage. (01:35:25)
Continuity mistake: At the "Feed the Earth" concert, as the lead singer sings "It's a cool place, and they say it gets colder..." watch the guitarist - a microphone on a stand appears in front of him between shots. (01:39:40)
Continuity mistake: At the end when everyone is dancing with Smash Mouth, just before Randy plays the harmonica Vera is singing with the singer of Smash Mouth, then in the next shot she is dancing behind Randy as he plays, and then in the next shot she is back dancing with the lead singer. (01:40:10)
Continuity mistake: Another instance where Blaine's tongue ring is missing, is at the end at the "Feed the World" concert, where Duane, the singer of Smash Mouth and he sing "Hey now, you're a rock star..." over one mic. (01:40:35)
Continuity mistake: When Merril and Vera ask the squirrel lady for directions, she tells them to drive 1.8 miles to the Totem Pole ranch, and to then go 5.4 miles until they get to a yellow sign with graffiti on it. However when they get to the yellow sign with graffiti on it, Merrill says "OK, we're at 2.4 miles" - it should be 5.4 miles.
Revealing mistake: When Vicky and Donald Grisham are trying to get away in the car with the hardware store guy hanging on the end, in the furthest shot you can see the wheels aren't moving.
Continuity mistake: When Tracy is throwing things at her boyfriend's truck, you can see two dents in the roof. However, when Tracy is chasing her boyfriend, there is no damage to the roof.
Other mistake: The bus driver (Marty) was a pretty large guy, so how come when Owen is wearing his clothes, they fit perfectly? Surely they would have been baggy?
Factual error: When Whoopi and her daughter get in the rocket car, look at the wheels, they are ordinary car wheels with car tires. The tires would literally disintegrate well before the car reached 745 miles per hour.
Answer: It really would have mattered. This was over time and the winner of the coin toss gets the ball first. In 2001, NFL overtime was sudden death where a field goal wins the game. So having the ball first is a huge advantage. The messed up coin toss seems to be a joke about the 1998 Thanksgiving game between the Lions and Steelers where the ref messed up the coin toss in overtime because he heard the Steeler's player's call wrong. The Lions ended up getting the ball and winning. Not to mention that many people who bet on football games also bet on the coin toss.
