Factual error: In beginning scene with the shark, it growls when it sees Lara. C'mon, how many sharks actually growl? (00:14:15)
Factual error: When Catherine's father walks through the corridor of the military base, on his way to the first test of the flying Hunter Killers, he is accompanied by a female civilian employee who is wearing a yellow blouse and you can see a fair bit of cleavage. Civilian employees on US military bases are required to dress modestly, and she is showing too much cleavage. The US military is utterly rigid in imposing their dress codes on civilians and she'd be ordered to button up.
Factual error: The movie depicts Tignes-Val-d'Isère as the closest ski resort from Switzerland. This is actually not the case as if you cross the border here, you end up in Italy, over 60 km away from Switzerland. The closest ski resort from Switzerland in France is actually Chamonix.
Factual error: Many of the "western" products used in the film are in packaging from the present day, not from the time the film was set (1989-90). For example, Coca-Cola Light had a white label then, not the silver one in the film. Other examples are Jacobs Krönung coffee and Heinz ketchup, shown in recently redesigned packaging.
Factual error: When young Ichi is hit in the face with the baseball, he doesn't react realistically. He simply falls back spitting blood, when in reality, he would have been knocked out and probably lost a number of teeth, and perhaps even broken a bone in his face.
Factual error: In the final scene where the gas grill blows up, the arm that falls to the table in front of the mother is not from a teenager - it is nearly twice as large as the young man's arms (as previously seen in multiple scenes). Some people say it's a leg, but if that's so it's a bit odd having fingers on the right side of it... (01:25:11)
Factual error: When Brendan Fraser comes out of the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower is right in front of it. The Louvre and the Eiffel Tower are miles away from each other.
Factual error: Tony Gregory, the politician that Veronica meets, is seen wearing a suit and tie. Tony Gregory the TD, made a point of never wearing a tie.
Factual error: After Stephen Maturin comes back with a small portion of findings from the Galapagos Islands, he presents a stick insect to Captain Aubrey, but stick insects (Phasmids) don't exist in the Galapagos Islands. (01:41:20)
Factual error: When Edward Bloom hits the winning shot in the basketball game, a three-point line is visible at his feet. The three-point line was not introduced until the 1970s in the newly formed ABA. It did not reach high school basketball gyms until the late 80s. (00:20:55)
Factual error: During the song where Mowgli and Balo are dancing together with other animals, there are several hippopotamus also dancing. This is impossible, as hippopotamus are native to Africa, and the movie is set in India.
Factual error: In the scene where Karen plays the album "Both Sides Now" by Joni Mitchell, she cries to the title track "Both Sides Now". A shot of the CD player indicates that track 7 on the album is playing, but "Both Sides Now" is track 12 on the actual album. (01:29:00)
Factual error: In the scene where the Learjet takes off the jet starts to roll. Then there is the shooting with the SWAT team, towards the end of the shooting the pilot pushes the power levers forward to accelerate. Regarding the short take off run they had on the bridge, the pilot would have stayed on the brakes until the engines were at full thrust, then released the brakes, started rolling and wouldn't touch the power levers until after liftoff or in emergency.
Factual error: After the cops respond to the domestic disturbance (son hitting mom), we see the male officer get in the back with the boy to show him the crime scene photos and he shuts the door after getting in. Police cars are designed so that the back doors must be opened from outside, however, he exited the car with no help. (00:21:00)
Suggested correction: Police cars just use the child safety lock on the side of door that prevents the back door being opened from inside. It's simple to turn them off so the doors can be opened from the inside.
Factual error: At the beginning of the film, after Eris gives her speech, we zoom in on a map of the Eastern Mediterranean - and the island of Cyprus is conspicuously missing (it's large enough to be seen on the map).
Factual error: At the "Battle of the Bands" scene, the kids arrive and have less than the length of one song to get ready to go on stage. (We see the band up on stage and hear the Battle of the Bands person tell the kids they're going on after that band.) Yet, when they get up on stage, they've got outfits, hair, makeup - including fancy braids and spikes - that just plain couldn't have been thrown together in five minutes.
Factual error: Catus Decianus actually managed to escape from the massacre at Camulodunum and fled to Gaul.
Factual error: Cody mentions the coordinates of the Cascade Mountains as: Long: 44 degrees 5' 2" Lat: -104 degrees 24' 8". There is no such thing as -104° latitude. The maximum in the northern hemisphere is +90° (the North Pole) and the maximum in the Southern Hemisphere is -90° (South Pole).
Factual error: Gollum's body wouldn't sink into the lava if he fell in it as shown in the movie. Rather his body would burst into flames, and turn to ash. Falling in lava isn't like falling into a lake. Lava is more than three times denser than water, which prevents a human shaped body from sinking in.
Factual error: A hard pack of Winston cigarettes is shown, but these were not available in 1953.
