Factual error: In the scene where Karen plays the album "Both Sides Now" by Joni Mitchell, she cries to the title track "Both Sides Now". A shot of the CD player indicates that track 7 on the album is playing, but "Both Sides Now" is track 12 on the actual album. (01:29:00)
Factual error: At the "Battle of the Bands" scene, the kids arrive and have less than the length of one song to get ready to go on stage. (We see the band up on stage and hear the Battle of the Bands person tell the kids they're going on after that band.) Yet, when they get up on stage, they've got outfits, hair, makeup - including fancy braids and spikes - that just plain couldn't have been thrown together in five minutes.
Factual error: Cody mentions the coordinates of the Cascade Mountains as: Long: 44 degrees 5' 2" Lat: -104 degrees 24' 8". There is no such thing as -104° latitude. The maximum in the northern hemisphere is +90° (the North Pole) and the maximum in the Southern Hemisphere is -90° (South Pole).
Factual error: A hard pack of Winston cigarettes is shown, but these were not available in 1953.
Factual error: All UK driving test instructors must wear a yellow reflective waistcoat or jacket while instructing someone during their driving test. This was still true in 2002 when the film was shot.
Factual error: While the Stevens family were on the plane they could see the island from the window and it was a small and "green" piece of land. However during the movie there is a scene meant to be taken at the same island which shows the recording studio, personnel and extras of the Family Fakeout reality show and you can see that it is in a wide and open space. This place couldn't be seen by the family when they were on the plane.
Factual error: When Frances arrives in Cortona. prices in the market are all expressed in Lira (we cleary see 6.000/kg for some vegetables). But after a while she passes close to a newspaper stand which exposes the poster of the satirical magazine "Il Vernacoliere". That poster dates November 2002. By that time the Lira had been replaced by the Euro.
Factual error: In the scene where Robert Duvall, Michael Caine and Haley Joel Osment are in a general store/coffee shop and the young punks come in, there is a Coca-Cola machine shown that has the "Wave" logo and a slogan that was used in the 1970s, not in the time period in which the movie took place (1950s/60s). (00:47:20)
Factual error: During any British election, the Queen avoids making public appearances in order to avoid influencing the election turnout. She usually stays at Windsor castle and would not have hosted such events as the garden party.
Factual error: In the scene where Tom and O'Malley are talking in O'Malley's flat, the chessboard in between them is set up the wrong way round.
Factual error: The monkeys that are threatening The Rock when he is hanging in the trees are baboons which are native to Africa, not to the Americas. In a magazine interview about the movie The Rock mentions "howler monkeys" (which are from South America)
Factual error: The final episode of "The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour" when Lucy meets Ernie Kovacs, marks the finality for Lucy and Ricky Ricardo, and Fred and Ethel Mertz. By this time the shows weren't filmed before a live audience the way it's depicted in the movie. The producers of the show abandoned the live audience earlier than the final shows.
Factual error: Unless Marion has a ridiculously large front room, the guns should have come down as he was blasting the zombie with the shotgun.
Factual error: In the two "live" concerts, the one at the beginning and one at the end, both show the seven original members, not the six shown in the movie.
Factual error: During the first mall robbery, when Marcus is sliding down the middle of the escalator, both sides of it are running. They would have been turned off as the mall was closed.
Factual error: At the police chase training, Earl jumps out of his car and it crashes into some barrels, and causes a huge explosion. The police academy would not have had explosive barrels out on a car obstacle course like that, endangering their trainees. (00:09:45)
Factual error: When May finds out that Bob and Walter are conjoined twins, they are holding a Dunkin' Donuts bag. There are no Dunkin' Donuts in Los Angeles.
Factual error: In the end of the film, just before Donna is shown inside a cockpit as an airline pilot, there's a shot of her aircraft landing. She flies for Royalty Airlines, but you can see the blue, white, and red stripes of an American Airlines plane.
Factual error: In most of the scenes at the craps tables, the players are holding the dice with both hands. This is a HUGE no-no in casinos and the dealers would have warned the players time after time.
Factual error: Near the end of the movie, in the scene on the cliff, Charlie, Jessie and Louis are saved from impending murder when Senior Sergeant Jimmy appears, flying up in a helicopter and announcing he is from Australian Police. There is no police department in Australia called "Australian Police" - police departments in Australia are named after the state they are based in. As they are apparently near Alice Springs, Jimmy should have yelled out that he was from "Northern Territory Police."
