Factual error: At the end of the bridge shoot out, Earl and Hank accidentally drive the van off the bridge and land in a garbage barge. This would not have happened, as at the time of this movie garbage barges were no longer used for transporting trash, to make LA a greener city. Mistake admitted to on DVD Commentary. (00:44:55)
Factual error: At the police chase training, Earl jumps out of his car and it crashes into some barrels, and causes a huge explosion. The police academy would not have had explosive barrels out on a car obstacle course like that, endangering their trainees. (00:09:45)
Factual error: Moments before Hank sees Charlie get shot, he tries to shoot through a window to get to him. The bullets have no effect, so he says, "It's bullet proof! I'm coming in!" He tries the door, and it's locked, so shoots the window again, having absolutely no effect. The glass would have at least cracked and shown signs of where the bullets were hitting. Even bullet proof glass is damaged by bullets. This glass was in perfect condition the whole time. (00:04:35)
Factual error: When Hank and Charlie first arrive at the warehouse that is being robbed, they shine their spotlight on the opened door. They are shining it through a gate with bars. But in the shots showing the light on the door, there are now shadows cast by the gate. (00:02:25)
Factual error: They do not put anyone in a state penitentiary for six months. County jail is anything up to 364 days. A year or more is prison. (00:19:10)
Factual error: When Hank is let out of solitary confinement, he punches the guard. A prisoner would never have the chance to attack guards while in solitary confinement because he/she is cuffed while still in the cell. Also, there are always at least two guards for escort, not one.
Factual error: When Hank and Earl are leaving the police station after being released, there is a sign on the stairs that reads, "LA PD 26th Precinct." Los Angeles Police Department has divisions, not precincts. (00:35:35)
Factual error: When Hank and Earl commandeer the driving school car they start to look for Nash's white van. There is a sign indicating a fork in the road with PCH California 1 and Interstate 405. Those are real roads in Los Angeles but they don't intersect. (00:39:20)
Chosen answer: It could, but they would have to bring charges against him, and have a new trial for that crime. It would most likely prevent him from getting a early parole.
