Visible crew/equipment: In the scene where Scott and Fran are dancing on the roof and the camera is about to pan downwards towards the lower level, to the left of the clothes-line, someone's head is visible moving. It is a crew member sitting against the other side of the wall.
Continuity mistake: Near the end of the movie, when Ed Leland is about to enter the Customs Office, the insignia on his hat is intact, but when he enters it has disappeared.
Factual error: The Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria are shown starting back for Spain at the end of the first voyage. In fact, the Santa Maria had wrecked by this time; the return voyage would be made only by the Nina and the Pinta.
Continuity mistake: When Allie takes a photo of the "perfect roomate", the roomate's pose in the photo doesn't match her pose and position at the time taken.
Continuity mistake: During a conversation a clock can be clearly seen in the backround and the time is 11:50, the scene cuts to a closeup of Nick Nolte speaking, then back to the wider shot and it's suddenly become 11:55 in a matter of seconds. But it doesn't stop there, it again cuts away for a few seconds and when it comes back to a a shot of the clock it now reads 11:40.
Continuity mistake: Near the beginning, Jake drives a motorcycle out of the warehouse shoot-out and spins out as police cars converge on him. He has blood coming out of the right corner of his mouth, the shot changes, cuts back to him and the blood is on the left, then right again in the subsequent shot.
Continuity mistake: During one scene, Mel Gibson is talking to the young boy through the treehouse door and holding the boy's jacket. The next scene, there is no jacket and then it magically reappears. (00:35:30)
Continuity mistake: In the outdoor restaurant scene (where Tim Robbins has just spoken to Burt Reynolds), the waiter brings Tim Robbins a bottle of water and a wine goblet, but when he pours the entire bottle of water into the goblet, it's obvious that it was not a full bottle of water to begin with. It doesn't fill the glass of half way. A waiter would not serve an opened bottle of water to a diner.
Continuity mistake: After Curleys' wife dies, her body keeps changing position every time it is seen in the barn.
Visible crew/equipment: In a later scene, when Kim Basinger comes to see Richard while he's in custody, you can very clearly see the boom mic over their heads.
Factual error: In the game at Pittsburgh, when Ruth hits three home runs, the first two were hit off Guy Bush. When he comes to bat the last time, Guy Bush is still pitching. This was not the case. Red Lucas was the pitcher, and he gave up Ruth's last home run.
Continuity mistake: Near the end, when the hitman walks out of the diner, the camera focuses on the car in the parking lot, cuts back to the hitman, then cuts back to the car. The problem is the shadows in the first shot of the car are about half a meter long, but a few seconds later they are two meters long. Obviously both takes of the car were taken hours apart.
Factual error: When Marlene goes to the greenhouse and is killed by the falling glass, this would never have happened. It is a federal law that all greenhouses, skylights, and entry-ways are to be made of safety glass. The glass would have to have been made of either a Tempered glass, which breaks in a thousand pieces, like a car window, or Laminated glass, which cracks but does not fall apart, like a car windshield. Neither one of these glasses would have killed her. Surely, law abiding citizens like Clare and her Husband would have followed the zoning laws that came along with building their greenhouse.
Factual error: The weapon Palmer used to shoot down one of the enemy fighters was the M79 grenade launcher. This weapon's projectile speed is lower than the speed of the plane, so it would be impossible for Palmer to hit a target flying over 100mph side-by-side.
Factual error: In the scene where St Matthews is Playing St Luke's in Football you can ADAMS printed on the chin strap of Matt Damon's Helmet. This movie was set back in the 40's or 50's and Adam's was not making those chin straps especially with ADAMS printed on the strap for many years to come.
Audio problem: In the scene where Malcolm is playing Russian Roulette, watch closely around the part when Malcolm begins to stand over the other guy with the gun pointed at his nose. You can hear Malcolm talking, but his lips aren't moving.
Continuity mistake: In the scene when Hando is reading from Mein Kampf he joins his girlfriend on the bed. In the next shot a half-smoked cigarette appears in his hand holding the book. This is not there before nor after.
Visible crew/equipment: A boom mike is briefly reflected in the office window when Lemmon and Spacey are arguing in the closed office. (00:25:45)
Factual error: When Chantel and Rhonda are discussing their high schools, Chantel says she is a doctor's daughter and grew up in the Pill Hill neighborhood but went to Du Sable. Du Sable isn't anywhere near the Pill Hill neighborhood, and even if it were, there's no way a doctor's daughter would have attended a high school that has for a long time been considered one of the poorest, most dangerous, and least academically well-performing in the city.
Continuity mistake: When Ray Liotta throws Madeline Stowe on the bed after she pulls the gun on him, he used his hands to pin her arms down. Then they cut to a different angle, her arm is pinned under Ray's leg and he's grabbing her hair.
