Easter egg: On Disc 2, go to trailers, and select Theatrical Trailer #3. While the trailer is playing, input the following numbers in order (slowly): 5 6 5 3 7 (JOKER). The trailer will restart and show a modified version of the original trailer, with Joker scribbling all over it. This is a reference to the marketing campaign promoting the movie, as fans who completed the entire set of events were greeted with the third "The Dark Knight" trailer, modified by the Joker.

Easter egg: HIDDEN BONUS MATERIAL on the Special Extended DVD Version: There are two secrets on the discs containing the film, one on each disc. Instructions for both: go to the Scene Index on either disc, then scroll down to the LAST scene (either "The Council of Elrond" on Disc 1 or "Official Fan Club Credits" on Disc 2), then scroll down one more time. On the first DVD, a little ring will appear next to the line "new scene." Click Enter. This leads to an introduction by Peter Jackson and the MTV Movie Awards parody on the Council of Elrond (starring Jack Black and Sarah Michelle Gellar), which isn't suitable for children (and does not appear in the UK version because of the BBFC). On the second DVD, scene 48, click on the number 48 - on the right side of the screen - and the silhouettes of Barad Dur and Orthanc appear just underneath, click it. You'll see another introduction by Peter Jackson, and the Two Towers cinematic preview trailer: the one played in theatres after the Fellowship of the Ring, towards the end of its running period.

Easter egg: On the U.S. version, there are terrific little nuggets in the newspaper "Far Far Away Times". It's located by following this path: Special Features > More > Far Far Away Times. When you get to the page with the newspaper, you can scroll through more than a dozen pages of really witty and amusing "articles", although you can only read the headlines. Starting on the third page - and on many, many pages thereafter - use the "up" arrow to highlight other parts of the pages. It's a real treasure trove. You'll find Fiona's diary (in its entirety), medieval graffiti, tapestries of the King and Queen in their younger days, medieval street signs, posters for musical acts (like the band "Stonehenge" and "Chastity Belt's World Tour"), Before and After pictures (including the transvestite bartender!), Fairy Godmother's various Potions and the Poison Apple's Drink Menu.
