Character mistake: Dumplin' is looking through her aunt's belongings, and finds an old application form for the Miss Teen Bluebonnet pageant. The application has an August 1993 signature but marks Lucy's DOB as 5/5/79 with a stated age of 16: it does not add up, as she'd have been 14 instead. Granted, it's an application she never actually turned in and not an official document, but this does not justify the mistake in the context of the movie (not to mention that had she just been too young to participate, the point of the movie would be moot).
Character mistake: The downed firetruck was referred to as engine 17, however it is actually engine 23.

Character mistake: Near the end of the movie when Ray shoots Odell, Ray checks Odell's pulse using his thumb. Since the thumb has an artery in it, you should never check someone's pulse using your thumb. As a cop, he should know this because I'm sure he's taken basic first aid.
Character mistake: At the poker game when Stella and Blanche come back from their movie, Stella is near the wall with her back towards Marlon Brando. As she says her line "how much longer is this game going to continue?", you notice Marlon Brando also says that line to himself as if he memorized the screenplay.he responds "Until we get ready to quit" and slaps her butt. Even the head croupier is called in, and, after much chatting, all the other players are asked to take their chips away as only Lauren is playing this round, which is ridiculous: All they have to lose is $28,000; that's nothing for them.
