Continuity mistake: The bullets on the table change positions during the scene after they stopped moving. For example, when Arthur moves the glass, you see 5 between him and the glass. In the next shot, you can't see any of the bullets, even though you see the same area. They're back when she flips the table.
Factual error: It's Christmas Eve 1925. Tommy and his son leave a mince pie for 'Santa and Rudolph', but there was no reindeer called Rudolph until the 1930s. The character's author hadn't even graduated by 1925, and only began writing a book about a red-nosed reindeer in 1939.

Trivia: Tommy Flanagan plays Arthur Shelby Sr, father to Arthur (Paul Anderson) and Tommy (Cillian Murphy). In real life, Flanagan is only 11 years older than Murphy and 13 years older than Anderson. (Incidentally, Arthur is 3 years older than Tommy despite Anderson being 2 years younger than Murphy).

Answer: There has never been prohibition in England. There are many reasons for running an underground distillery. It would be a way to avoid things like government regulations, safe distilling methods, alcohol content limits, taxation, fix pricing, and so on.
