Revealing mistake: When Dexter is fighting Liddy, in the van after kidnapping Dexter, the knife is a rubber fake knife. (00:38:15)
The Big One - S5-E12
Continuity mistake: When Dex gets the phone-call from the city archives he steals a red Pontiac Grand Am GT. When he crashes it at the camp it's a badly-painted orange Chevrolet. (00:21:00 - 00:28:00)
Suggested correction: The car is a red Pontiac but it is a Grand Prix, not a Grand Am.
Continuity mistake: Dexter's hybrid SUV changes often. Sometimes it has satnav, sometimes it doesn't.
Revealing mistake: The actor portraying a dead body noticeably moves her left leg while being turned over by Angel, Dexter and Masuko. (00:06:33)
Other mistake: While Dexter's searching for info on Travis Marshall on his laptop, he opens the DMV Records window with an image of Marshall's driver license, and in the closeup at the bottom of the license it reads "Operation of a motor vehicle constitutes consent to any sobiety test required by law," with the word "sobriety" missing the letter "r." Additionally, under the image of the license it reads "Issued: 10-12-2006", but on the actual license image it reads, "DOB: 11-24-1977, Issued: 09-23-1990, Expires: 09-23-2012." So that means Marshall was not even 13 yrs old when he got his license, and the license won't expire for 22 years. Also, when Brother Sam knocks on the door Dexter clicks back onto the MOA website, and if you care to pause the screen note the word "Exibit" is missing the letter "h." (00:18:50)
Continuity mistake: Dexter browses the book shelf at Travis' house. The camera pans across, revealing a book titled "Apocalypse Bound" situated at the right on the shelf. When Dexter takes the book off the shelf, it is then shown as the fourth book from the left. When he puts it back, the empty gap where it used to be now appears to the far right on the shelf. (00:25:50)
Character mistake: Louis Greene, Masuka's new intern, is asked to find the person who purchased Rudy's prosthetic hand. He is unable to do so; however, as a consolation, he says "I installed a modded-up Intel chip to overclock your CPU." You can overclock your CPU, but you don't need another chip to do so. (00:44:00)
Suggested correction: Only K series intel CPU's can be overclocked so a CPU upgrade is understandable if the previous one was not overclockable.
Character mistake: When Dexter is looking up Travis Marshall on his laptop he mentions he lives at 1742 Vanderan Street, but on the licence details on screen the number reads 1026 Vanderan Street.
Just Let Go - S6-E6
Continuity mistake: When Travis meets his sister at the school she works at, a chalk board with nothing on it can be seen behind Travis. A couple of shots later and there is a piece of paper attached to the chalk board. (00:30:35)
Just Let Go - S6-E6
Factual error: When Dexter is looking at Leo Hernandez's criminal history, it shows Leo's social security number. However, it's a 10-digit number instead of a 9-digit number.
Continuity mistake: In Season 6, Episode 10, Dexter and Harry are in the motel room where Travis was staying (timestamp 1). Dexter decides to post on Gellar's blog (impersonating Gellar), and the screen on the computer shows the post date as Sunday, November 24, preceded by a Sunday, November 20 post. Aren't Sundays supposed to be a week apart? Then in episode 12 (timestamp 2), Travis is in Dexter's apartment and sees the poster for the Noah's Ark school play. The date posted for the play is Saturday, October 8, ie. in the past compared to the earlier episode. Plus If November 24 were on a Sunday, then October 8 should have been on a Tuesday. (00:09:20 - 00:30:20)
Are You...? - S7-E1
Continuity mistake: When Dexter started removing the plastic off Travis' body, his small knife was stabbed into the chest, but during that, the sword was already stabbed into the chest, not the knife, and then again, he removed the knife from the body, and then stabbed him with the sword. (00:12:05)
Are You...? - S7-E1
Factual error: During the walk-through of the crime scene, there is a small remnant of plastic sheeting between Travis' toes. Given the entire church was consumed by flames, or more importantly, the body and foot from which the plastic is pulled are badly burnt, it's highly improbable that the plastic sheeting would still be present. At least not in the form that is shown, but rather more like a globe of melted plastic on or into the body or table. Similarly, the feet wouldn't be 'wet' or glossy with blood. (00:15:22)
Are You...? - S7-E1
Plot hole: It's out of character and against his code for Dexter to kill Viktor at the airport. Airports have security cameras everywhere (you can see one on the ceiling when he is wheeling Viktor into the unclaimed baggage storage), and using the unclaimed baggage storage as the kill room is equally unwise, because any airport employee could walk in at anytime and catch him red-handed. Dexter was caught murdering Travis Marshall by Deb just hours before, so if anything, he should be even more cautious.
Sunshine and Frosty Swirl - S7-E2
Revealing mistake: After Isaak Sirko killed Tony Rush by sticking a screwdriver in his eye, Rush almost instantly drops dead on the floor. When Sirko's assistant, Jurg, wipes the screw driver for finger prints, you can still see a pulse at the base of Tony's throat. (00:54:05)
Sunshine and Frosty Swirl - S7-E2
Continuity mistake: When Wayne Randall is eating ice cream, the size/amount of ice cream on the cone changes as the camera pans back and forth between characters.
Continuity mistake: Near the beginning of episode 3, season 7, Dexter is attempting to take a mouth swab of a criminal in the interview room. When he first sits to request a swab from the man he is shown putting on forensic gloves. When the camera pans to him a second time to attempt taking a swab he no longer has forensic gloves on. As the man resists opening his mouth for a swab check Dexter is wearing forensics gloves again.
Factual error: In The Beginning while Dexter is on his boat in Miami, you suddenly see mountains in the background, of which there are none in Miami. Also the palms are too high, indicating they are from California. And the worst setting mistake is the Florida tags in front of the cars. Only commercial vehicles have front tags.
Continuity mistake: When Hannah calls Dexter at the bus crime scene, Dexter answers the phone normally but then in the next cut, the phone is upside down. (00:23:25)
