Continuity mistake: The Marine Captain is showing Gomer Pyle how to salute. When she salutes she has a watch on her right wrist, but when she is shown holding the salute the watch is not on her wrist.

Trivia: In the episode Sgt. Carter said his old girlfriend Rose Pilchek played by Allison Hayes was Miss. Armor Division of 1961. In real life Allison Hayes won the of Miss. District of Columbia and represented DC in the 1949 Miss America pageant. (00:04:14)

Answer: There's no indication they were meeting for the first time, in fact they seem to know each other as Sgt. Carter addresses Andy only as "Sheriff". Gomer Pyle just says his two favorite people are "meeting face to face", and obviously in the pilot episode Sgt. Carter wasn't one of Pyle's favorite people yet.
